Minor point of contention: but I think either Phoebe or Joey makes a better parallel for a quirky 'comic relief character' (a la Darius) in a group of friends than Chandler. Sure, Chandler is hilarious (but mostly intentionally by way of his jokes, not by his quirks/oddness), but he also work a straight-and-narrow job, and is in a pretty generic couple with a fellow lead for the most part. He's not a "what the hell is up with that guy!?" type character like the others on that list lol. Now, back to this vid :)

The Different World connection is so brilliantly drawn here, thank you. I think Darius sees Cree Summers' character step in front of Judge Judy in the courtroom and experiences nirvana.

I think it’s interesting that they wrapped up the stories of the main characters and then thrown that all into question by the ambiguity of Darius’ ending. I think it reflects what the show has been the entire time: real and also surreal at the same time because if it’s surreal, it’s so crazy that it becomes the reality. In this sense, I think it doesn’t matter if Darius sees a thic Judge Judy or not because it’s paralleling the black identity in America. The world black Americans move through is so f-ed up to the point of surrealism that their reality is a surreal form of reality. Even when something is surreal, that’s the reality they have to live in. Just like how if Darius is in a surreal version; that’s the reality he has to live in. I think that’s why he smiles at the end because no matter what, he just has to roll with it, just like Earn and Paperboi (and Van) have been rolling with the surreal, unhinged things that have been happening around them the entire 4 seasons. What can they do? This is the black reality. This is Atlanta. This is America.

Th e episode was in fact all a dream. Judge Judy only came on primetime once in 2014. It only airs 4pm - 5pm. Atlanta doesn't get that dark between 4p-5p.

This show means so much to me. No one believes I’ve watched this last episode 20-30 times. That part in the pharmacy messed me up. What she says about life not being a battle is crazy deep. I can’t believe I haven’t seen this said before, it’s all a dream. I’ve rewatched the show several times and the first time it seemed obvious. The first episode Darius is bugging over the dog and it being Deja vu. That’s because he’s in the tank and relived it before. He goes into the tank to see people he’s lost, and Al and Earn were shot in the first episode. We don’t see anything after the shot and the shows bugs out from then on. The show runners do everything for a reason. The dog never made sense until the end
@carmen94327 ай бұрын
Wow. You know what - maybe the tank was Darius’ way to still be with them, just like for his brother. Maybe Van actually unalived herself during that mental breakdown, just like she said she had planned to do. 🤔

So I'm autistic right? Found out@12,diagnosed@5,etc. Ever since I started watching Atlanta, Darius was my favorite character, and before even realizing the way he is is how he deals with trauma and sh¡t, I looked up to him and legitimately strived to learn from him as a character and combination of the expressions of writers, creators, directors, and Lakeith himself He's exactly who I wish I could be when life is getting me down Then I saw someone say he was autistic-coded and now i feel very very odd Now I'm scared I'll never see past veils and masks in others and in myself I respect Darius to an extreme degree, and I think the spirit of his character goes beyond a work of fiction Maybe not nonfiction, but maybe he is a person that's truer than fact The myth, legend The man. I'd take the fall for the mazzeratri for him Whatever happens: happens Be well

I knew we were in for a Darius finale when season 4 barely had any Darius plot lines leading up to it. All we had was the air fryer and the shoe man plot lines. The writers knew exactly what they were cooking up by depriving fans of the most beloved character.

I don't think he meant that Judge Judy was always on in his dreams. I think he meant that no matter the time of the day Judge Judy is on tv on some channel, therefore always available to check if he needs to. Spinning top wouldn't work if you couldn't access it all the time.

I have a feeling they already had Cree Summer for Swarm. Because that's the same pharmacy that Dre was in at the final episode. Also, yeah! Darius is my favorite character. He was from the get go, but I think the Drake New Years episode cemented that for me. He's just so random, yet respectful to that girl having the trip.
@aubreewithaextrae7 ай бұрын
it honestly doesn't matter to me if it was all real or not because darius is happy and that's all that matters. life is just filled with questions and confusion so the fact that he's sitting there enjoying the time with his friends real or fake is kind of like him taking control of his life/existence basically saying fuck you to all the complications of life and the world i'm going to enjoy eating popeyes with my friends after i just stole a pink maserati and might go to jail.
@laotasurfs11107 ай бұрын
Personally, I think Judy was thicc. Darius goes to the tank to be with his family (where he belongs and is understood and loved) and be happy and of service to them. To have more time with the people he loves where it's still okay. But it's not real. His brother tries to get him to leave the tank behind. The fact that he smiles at the end of the episode, I think is proof he realizes he's not in the tank. Because he's with his friends and having a good time and being of service to them, and if it's real, that means everything's gonna be alright and he doesn't need the tank to be loved and belong. I mean obviously, answering the question isn't the point, blah, blah, Christopher Nolan, blah, blah. Either way he's smiling. But I think he had that conversation with his brother for a reason.
