@@shawnhart4195The concept of water as a portal or a link between worlds appears in various African cultures. For instance, in the Yoruba tradition of Nigeria, the deity Yemoja is associated with the ocean and often depicted as a motherly figure symbolizing fertility and protection. In the Akan tradition of Ghana, the river deity Tano is revered, embodying the spiritual connection between water and the divine. Additionally, in many West African belief systems, water spirits or deities are acknowledged, and water itself is considered a source of spiritual power and purification. These beliefs showcase the significance of water as a symbolic portal or link to the spiritual realm in some African cultures.

For the “Van is a Ghost Theory” - there’s some sort of light shining behind the pole (probably another street light) and the way it shines on her hair just makes it look funny. If you watch the clip enough times really closely you’ll actually see she’s walking past the pole normal and not actually passing through it.
@shaeccspeare11 ай бұрын
Exactly! She was already past the pole. We never see the pole in front of her. The light is playing tricks through her hair.

100% just the backlighting from the harsh streetlight, if you max your brightness you can see her hair pass infront of the lamppost. That and her face or body never phase through or turn translucent, really silly theory imo

About the season 3 finale, the friends of Van actually are the female embodiments of Earn, Al, And Darius. Their personalities mirror the characters not seen. I believe this is done because in all of season 3 Van is protected by Earn and sometimes Darius, but in the finale Van becomes the protector who knows how to survive outside of her element. Once she shows that she can survive all by herself, she finally feels able to become vulnerable and reveal how depressed she became over her own lack of direction in life.

in regards to "the girl in class is happy now" that collection of scenes always sat with me, i think it mostly hits because right before she comes in happy the teacher talks about how they should treat people with kindness and patience because we don't know what homes we go home too and how they affect us. even though it never crosses the teachers mind that the girl could be living in a rough home, and possibly the night before she came in happy, it wasn't such a horrible home to be in for that night, so it affected her the next day to be more engaged in class, imo with how the teacher was acting towards the girl in the beginning of the episode borders on bullying/abuse and neglect of power in a classroom, the girl could have killed herself due to the teachers actions and she wouldn't of known it until it was too late, yet she can talk to the class about being patient and understanding of peoples struggles, after a tragic situation has already happened. just crazy levels of social commentary
@luis77379 ай бұрын
I interpreted it entirely differently; given her depression, unwillingness to talk and dead expression - I thought that it may have alluded to the kid who died being one of her abusers. Commenting on the struggle that many young women have to deal with on a daily basis. It showed 2 things to me; 1. The environment and mostly actions (in this theory/scenario) somebody goes through or commits can already dictate who someone is & will become in the future. For example; serial killers or sexual abusers tend to pick up on their characteristics because of life at home or early exposure to certain trauma. The kid who died could have easily been in both categories; abusing the young girl whilst being abused himself at home to the point of suicide. To me, it showed the contrast in what different people all go through. The kids death could have been a result of a troubled home while his abuse to the girl and potentially others was never known or found out about; leaving his legacy fine & the rest of the class shook & depressed while, his victim who seemed to be on the brink of suicide and death herself; feels as if her life has freshly started over & no longer had to worry about her abuser,
@luis77379 ай бұрын
Everything in Atlanta is connected so his death definitely had something to do with her change in mood. We’re never told that she has a bad home life or that, that’s why she’s depressed. Just that she is depressed and that a kid has died. She then comes in glowing happy BEFORE the teacher makes her announcement about him dying and about being kind to one another; alluding to the fact that the girl was already aware of the kids death since she was smiling before entering the classroom & before the teacher even announces anything. An even darker theory is that, she herself killed him in retaliation during one of the theorized abusements Again, everything in Atlanta is connected so I personally think it’s a stretch to assume that she just had a good day at home the day before & chop it up to “maybe she had a better night than usual” The conversation and look with the teacher told me that; the teacher was aware of the abuse to some extent but did nothing to help her. Afterall they were in the same class and like you said, the teacher ironically makes a speech about being kind to others before the girl walks in smiling. The depressed look she gives her almost screams sarcasm, disappointment & mistrust. Almost as if the teacher already knows more or less why she isn’t at her best mood Whereas, she walks in smiling and aware of the news before the teacher even makes an announcement; again, silent expressions that speak more than any words themselves. Her look of desperation yelled, “no shit Sherlock” & “you know exactly what’s wrong” Her smile yelled, freedom & an admitting to something we don’t know

The girl in class had McDonald's in the day she's happy which is the classic indicator for black kids of a before school doctors appt-- she was likely put on meds which was a major thing for those of us that grew up in the 90s. Not only did it seem like doctors gave out Ritalin and other ADHD or anti depressants like candy, but schools seemed to pushed parents that direction

I think the side story of the girl and the teacher working together in FUBU serves a couple purposes. It shows a parallel where a student is cared for and empathized with by a teacher, and is better off in school for it - as opposed to the blatant and fatal bullying the boys were experiencing in the hall which received little sympathetic intervention. It could also be a comment on public schools’ tendency to over-prescribe ADD/ADHD meds to students who couldn’t focus in school due to legitimate concerns at home - it was, and sometimes still is, used as an easy band-aid for “problem kids who can’t sit still”

51:40 For the “girl is happy now” I think she was dealing with some sort of food insecurity at home. Earlier in the episode she was acting irritable and she told her teacher she had a headache. I think these are some signs that she didn’t eat yet. She also looks physically drained. Then when she arrives to class late she’s happy and energetic cuz she has some McDonalds in her hand. So she probably had something to eat before class ie the McDonald’s bag.

But I can also see it as her asking him if he understands who is in control of his life. Is it him? Is it those around him? Are people controlling the decisions of his closest friends in order to further control him? "Who owns your masters?" - "who is really in control of your life? Is it you? Is it your masters? Or is it the masters of your masters?" The self-reflective aspect of psych substances (the space cake) make this interpretation stick out a little more to me personally.

43:07 "Van is a ghost theory"; seems to be to be just a trick/illusion of lighting and our eyes paired the weirdness of how our hair reacts to light. This is one of the reasons i stopped going with an afro and loc'd my hair in high school. Notice how thin her hair looks as she walks past & watch the shoulders. She makes a slight turn so im assuming due to camera positioning and boom op's path, they had to squeeze closer together on that sidewalk and cheat their blocking a little bit more in order to match close up with wide. Thus, when she crosses the pole the mix of posture, stride, and how fluffy and more see through her hair is at its tips than the root, and backlighting/ring lighting in order to make sure everyone is lit properly in a nighttime setting and doesnt disappear into background, caused for a strange illusion that made her look like a ghost. But if you dont focus on the hair and look at the shoulders and hair round the base of neck, you can tell she is walking in front of it. Simple mistake caught me off guard too at first really had to study it & think back to all the weird lighting tricks i remembered in film school. But lemme know what yall think, just my 2 cents 🙏🏾🫶🏾 keep up the awesome work Nine!

Over time, and I posted about this while S3 was unfolding, they will get better & better, aging like fine wine. Because they take the series to a whole other level-- a level beyond. Many/(most?) people seemed to dislike them, but that was a short term take imo. They fill in all the blank spaces and EXPAND the world and the themes (& the messages) exponentially. They have stayed with me, long after the fact-- they're haunting.

I think the anthology episodes was put there to catch you up or clue you into the world of Atlanta because it was away for so long. People were mad(besides both seasons airing within months of each other)because the show was ending only having so many episodes left with so much still unresolved and going week to week and 4 of the first 10 episode aren't about our main characters so it was the long waiting with small breaks of waiting is what I think people disliked. Because the 4 episodes standalone or with Atlanta canon are amazingly done. They were deliberately put there to make you feel something. 3 Slaps has been stuck to me. Especially since thats how Alligator Man fell out with his family member. Also, question: would the Migos be as big as they became if Donald Glover didnt shoutout "Bad and Boujee" in his Emmy acceptance speech? THAT could be at the bottom of the iceberg. (Keep in mind ALL of white media, especially hipsters, were enamored with Atlanta. Hell, the wife of the executive producer for Game of Thrones stopped Donald and told him that Atlanta was her favorite show on television and how did he come up with the ideas for the episodes....).

That wasn't just any fast food restaurant. That was a Mrs Winners. Used to have the ATL chicken game on lock. I think they only have one or two locations left. But the chicken and the sweet tea was 🔥🔥🔥.

50:37 The main character talking to a narrator. Almost like him talking to God for his answers.

I’m not through the whole video yet, but I will say, as a black person probably the reason why weird sandwiches show up is because in the black community when you’re impoverished, you have to make something out of nothing. The fact that he had a chicken skin and peanut butter, that’s like two of the most tastiest things when you’re eating on a budget lol. Also, BAN in the black community is also an acronym for a bxtch xss nxgga, so probably he was throwing shots at BET 😂

I love things about every season, but season 2 is my favorite. North of the Border is my favorite episode. So many iconic Atlanta moments in the episode.

The golden gun, I believe, is a metaphor for how Earn felt at that time. Gold representing everything he wants in his career. The gun representing the necessity of doing sometimes drastic and agressive things to obtain it.

51:00 with the girl, I think she's holding a bag, I'd like to think she got medication for her depression, because where she used to sit there was another girl now feeling the same possibly. Which gives a bit of a supernatural element too

42:56 {Van is a Ghost} The Afro gives the optical illusions of her passing through the pole. Actually fire ..could be intentional because there is a bright light directly behind the pole to enhance the shot. while the reflection of lamp post is seen in the car reflection to give the illusion of a light behind the pole. but it wouldnt be that close. Not sure if its great camera work or a lucky break
@rivearivea11 ай бұрын
42:48 >> Van’s not a ghost. She was just wearing her hair blown out in front of a bright light. 🤣 It’s not even VFX, it’s just that you can see through her less dense ends due to the light behind the pole.

My vision for marvel is as follows; Lakeith Stanfield as Reed Richards. Katt Williams as Victor Von Doom Denzel Washington as Charles Xavier Giancarlo Esposito as Magneto Make Professor X and Magneto Civil rights legends during the vietnam war instead of holocaust survivors as to make them younger. Katt Williams larger than life personality would elevate Doom as a villian. Plus having Lakeith be 6ft tall compared to Katt Williams be 5’5 would be an interesting dynamic to see on the big screen. Like Reed Richards literally standing over Doom and overshadowing him unintentionally. That is all

Just a little correction at 25:07 you said that the yodel kid hasn’t released music but in fact he has, and gained quite a following. He goes by Mason Ramsey.

"The girl happy in class" can also take a darker turn in psychology when people are about to kill themselves a day before or the day of they will act the happiest they have ever been and feel that way too .........take that for what you will

That’s an interesting theory. A lot of people it’s just her having anti depression medication. Which is also something I haven’t considered but anti depressants don’t work that quickly. But also Atlanta has the craziest timeline ever.

Surprised you mention that the "Uzi Jacuzzi" dude is based off of Nino Blu, a real life kanye stan who brought back Hurricane from the dead by rapping to Kanye over that beat on the street and never stopped talking about it. They look identical

I'm not sure if they were both based on some kind of real life incident or if Atlanta pulled from this concept, but on S3, E6 of the Netflix series, Black Mirror, two detectives are trying to investigate a bunch of murders that are linked to all the victims having posted a certain hashtag on social media.
