Part of me still wishes that Chibnall, Production,, and the actresses had taken the romantic tension all the way and given the Thirteenth Doctor and Yaz a kiss. But I can still respect from an in-universe perspective that this is as close as they got. The Doctor is this immortal being who will keep going for the next many centuries. Yaz is one Earth human of presumably average lifespan. And I think the Doctor still regrets getting that deeply involved with Rose Tyler. It made the stakes too high for either of them, and it destroyed them emotionally when they were separated. The Doctor wasn't going to subject Yaz to the same emotional fate. They can't bear to be the cause of that kind of hurt again.

So many companions over the years end up becoming a big part of the universe only to later suffer terrible fates. Rose Tyler becomes Embodiment of Bad Wolf only to save the doctor but later gets trapped in another dimension forever Along with mom and Mickey because they tried all too hard to stay. Jack Becomes the immortal leader of torchwood and live for over 5 billion years only to become reduced to the face of boe but in the end he uses his remaining energy to save millions of lives Amy and Rory become the parents of River Song only to later get trapped in the past forever because like Rose they tried too hard to stay with the doctor. Clara Oswald becomes "The Impossible girl" only to later sacrifice herself to save the doctor but later gets pulled out of her own timeline to escape her fate but for some reason has to wiped the doctor's memory of her. And we'll never get to see what adventures Clara will have in her own tardis, Bill Pots... well she unexpectedly became the first cyberman Anyway it feels so much better when the doctor can just have some good company and just say goodbye the normal way.

One of my favourite pieces of the era, which I’m positive will be included on TPOTD soundtrack coming out on the 16th! 🎧 It’s also one of my favourite scenes of the episode as well. Yaz’s reaction makes the scene all that more moving 😢 Why does it make sense for Yaz to leave here? Because no matter who The Doctor regenerates into, Yaz’s “Doctor” will be gone, and the pain would be too hard to bear for her seeing someone else in 13’s place! 😔 It’s not one of the worst exits, but it works well enough!

I can partially understand why they didn't go forth with the romance between The Doctor and Yaz because when you think back to Rose, Amy and Clara they all loved their Doctors but neither survived the whole journey with The Doctor but Yaz has. But because she has, it makes The Doctor more afraid that finally someone The Doctor loved has actually survived but won't have more time with her. Yaz will be known as the person that loved The Doctor and survived. I truly hope that maybe in a couple of years, they'll have Jodie come back as The Doctor since it was said that she loved to come back in the future and hopefully Mandip as well as Yaz again

Why couldn't Yaz just stay and hang with the new doctor? Was there a reason?
@jeremythomaswebb148510 ай бұрын
Well for one thing, at the time the special was recorded, I believe it was up in the air if Doctor Who was still going to continue. Hence why David's scene was shot on a later day. So there's that. And I guess RTD wanted a clean slate for Ncuti. Hence why his era is starting at season 1 for Disney Who. Narrative wise, there's no reason why Yaz couldn't stick around. But I guess it could be that it would have been too hard to see 13 turn into someone else for her.

I am still unhappy that we didn't get more time with this Doctor. At least some post-Covid time. Not crazy about the return of Tenant though I liked his incarnation. Of course, I've never been a member of The Powers-That-Be so not much I could do about it.

I’m not the biggest fan of Yaz but this exit is so ridiculous and unbelievable. We have seen multiple instances where yaz is clearly very loyal to the Doctor, when the doctor was in prison graham and Ryan gave up and moved on. Yaz didn’t. When the doctor says she’s going to sacrifice herself in the series 12 finale, no one stops her. Yaz does, she grabs her. So I do not buy for a second that all of a sudden Yaz would be so willing to just leave the Tardis team. Especially considering that in the first episode of this era she said she wanted more, she wants to achieve more. Why would she stop travelling with the Doctor? I don’t get itZ

Yaz did fall in love with the 13th incarnation, it would probably be too sad to watch her regenerate into the 14th doctor because essentially she’d watch her doctor die and turn into a new man, but hey that’s just my thoughts on it 🫡

There have been worse exits in this show over the decades that didn't make sense either.

I agree!

Why would the Doctor push Yaz away? The Doctor has never pushed away a companion before regenerating. It looks to me like Davies just didn't want Yaz on the roster for his second run. I don't really think much of Yaz as a character, so I can't disagree with him there. But her exit should have been handled better. Dan's exit made sense. Yaz's didn't.

agreed, especially since they hinted at a romantic thing... which just kind of disappeared?
