I own this lens. It’s true it’s big and heavy and I understand peoples point of view but I prefer carrying this lens on a strap for a shoot vs having another lens that is 1lb lighter and ALSO carrying a backpack with 3 other lenses. That feels more cumbersome to me..

My first rf lens to see what focal I use more and was suppose to sell it to buy that prime…. But I can’t find myself selling it It’s heavy If I bring it, it’s going to be the only lens I bring But if I’m bringing more than one lens I leave it for my rf15-35 and 70-200. Honestly feel it excels more for video than photography You can get a good 28mm for standard framing and paired with the r5 the ibis is just magical. For slow 120 b roll bust it to 70 at f2 for a more dramatic For photos the 70 mm is weirdly satisfying

Vought this lens for events. No its always on for basically everything. events/weddings, portraits, studio there is nothing you cant do with this lens

Ok so here are my thoughts on owning this lens for a year. It's incredibly versatile and the weight I didn't have any issues with, I shoot R5's and have battery grips on both. I will also agree that it is sharp, quick to focus and as an event photographer if you have this and perhaps an RF 70-200 f2.8 in your bag you are probably totally covered for most things. There is a but though, I also own the RF85mm f1.2 and when you compare this look to 70mm both at f2 they are worlds apart. The 85mm is just a masterpiece and in some ways takes some of the shine off the 28-70mm because of how good it actually is. Also having tested the RF50mm f1.2 against the 28-70 at 50 mm again both at f2, the prime still out performs the zoom comfortably. So what is my point here? While the 28-70mm is unique and sharp and allows great convenience and speed, I will not be selling my 85mm and will be purchasing the 50mm f1.2 shortly as the look you get from these lenses can not be touched by even the finest zoom which the 28-70mm absolutely is. I am fortunate enough to not have to sell the 28-70 and this will still be my go to lens for most event applications but when I am taking portraits the primes are simply next level.

@@rbxjmbassHi, I was actually talking to another friend recently about this and at the wide end we both shoot RF15-35mm f2.8 which gets the job done well, but does not create the magical look of a f1.2. I am surprised that Canon have not completed the set of fast L series primes so far but hope that 2022 will bring this option to us. I am not sure I will be able to resist even though I don't shoot that much at 35mm wide open as I tend to use it more as a story telling lenses at f4. I have just got my own 50mm f1.2mm and I absolutely love the look it produces. So I will find it hard to say no to the 35mm when it comes out as it will be as magnificent as the others I'm sure. 😄

Best and very accurate read my g. I have that 50mm 1.2 and 28 to 70 f2. I would never get rid of my prime. 28 is nice but just can’t compare. But I use 28 the most cuz it’s convenient.

What a lens! I thought about purchasing this one for a long time, but I settled for the 24-70 in the end. If I were only a photographer, I would have bought it, but being video first, the 24-70 is a better choice since it has IS and most importantly doesn't focus breath. The latter being the most critical detail for my personally. Also, not having to carry around the additional weight is a plus, but man, the pictures of the 28-70 are really impressive.

3:12 is my favorite image. But you had many good ones. I shot an indoor wedding yesterday with my R5’s, mostly the RF 50 1.8 at f4, and some group shots with the RF 14-35 at 35 and f8. All with one or 2 Profoto B1’s, one bounced off wall, and other in 65” deep white Glow umbrella. But I digress. The 50 AF was hunting and was a PITA. I’d actually prefer to switch to MF and zoom. So the 28-70 could be the ticket, except I’ll need to workout with it. Or if Canon comes out with a RF 35 f1.4 or 1.2, I’d be happy with that too. Good video! New sub!

Way to commit to a weekly vid! Can't wait to see what's in store. I currently shoot Sony APSC, Sigma makes an APSC version (18mm-50mm) but f2.8. On APSC, the depth of field kinda looks like f/3.5ish but unless you pixel peep clients don't really care in my experience. I kinda treat it like having two primes, I really only stick to 23mm (35mm full frame) and 50 (70 full frame) and I like to move on my feet. I used to shoot on a Canon 5dmkii, and I like how small and light this setup is.

Yes, it could replace 24-70, 35 and 50 but not really 85. That's the one thing holding me back from getting this lens since 90% of my photos in the past decade or so was taken on 85mm primes. And I often carry a 35mm on another body. Weight wise one body with this lens would still be a lighter setup. So maybe, just maybe this is the game changing lens for me.

Nice! I've also got an R6, such a great camera. I just picked up a different RF (16mm f 2.8, it's super rad for $299), I've def noticed that the native RF lenses are noticeably quicker/more accurate than the EF lenses with the adapter.

I purchased this lens and traded in my RF50mm and RF24-70mm. The weight has never bothered me and frankly having one less lens in my bag makes a huge difference. I will say that I miss the 50's f1.2 for capturing Milky Way in greater detail and its slightly softer bokeh, but honestly both of these are incredibly minor differences. If you can I'd love to see a review of the RF 100-500, probably not a lens you might own or even use but it's definitely the favorite in my bag.

There is No issue with weight or size at all!!! I love prime lenses but they are not convenient at all in real life (aka event photography and family portraiture) situations when the Moment is Most Important to capture!! Switching lenses takes toooo long. Awesome video btw thx!

Don't know why this vid came up for me, but ended up watching it anyway, despite me already owning the RF 28-70 f2. Maybe confirmation bias? Either way, glad I stopped in! New subscriber. I had the RF 35mm f1.8, RF 50mm f1.8 and considered getting the RF 24-70 f2.8, but having used this lens briefly, I knew I just had to get the lens. I have since gotten rid of the 35mm, 50mm, and my RF 24-105 f4L and this replaced them all. Granted I also have the RF 70-200 f2.8 to cover the longer focal range, but the RF 28-70 f2 has become my workhorse lens. It stays on my body 90-95% of the time. Absolutely love how the lens renders images-- renders like a prime but with the versatility of a zoom.
