I am a wedding photographer and have this lens on my R5. Yes, it’s big but the image quality is worth the weight and size. When paired to my R5 the Images are on par with medium format. It is razor sharp and the constant f/2.0 dissolves crappy backgrounds.

Darrell Holloway I shoot weddings as well but I‘m so scared that this lens will be to heavy for me to hold up for many hours (I’m a women with limited arm and shoulder strength) :/ but I feel you on the „blurring out crappy backgrounds“ and like to shoot as open as possible. When I tried it out, it just felt very front heavy and big on my R6. Don‘t know what to do and am considering going for the RF 24-70 f 2.8 instead...

I’m a nightclub shooter and when I first got my r6 in the mail I didn’t have any glass except for my ef lenses. Adapters were out of stock everywhere and the only rental spot didn’t have any available from already being rented and what did I do? I rented out this rf 28-70 and man it was overwhelming at first. My arms got sore the next day and it was hard for me to shoot with coming from the small Sony form factor with the tamron 28-70 2.8. I became exhausted and couldn’t even think right I was so taxed physically and mentally. But I got over it in a couple days and adjusted to it and it became my new best friend that wasn’t mine. Shooting nightclubs with this lens wide open enabled me to shoot at low ISO using less flash power allowing my energizer lithium batteries last longer in my 600rt. I always wanted to shoot with primes in the club but couldn’t manage two lenses simultaneously with 1 body. So this was the answer. I shoot all individual portraits at f2 and then with two people in a frame I can shoot at f2.5 and get both their eyes in focus as long as their faces are placed in a similar position parallel to each other. The 12fps came in handy when shooting the portraits around the colored spotlights constantly hitting my subjects picking out a photo that has the best colored kicker light at the side of the face from those bright moving color cast lights. It was a dream to work with and was complimented many times by my subjects clients and client associates who said that my photos were amazing. Fast forward to 3 weeks later I had to return it and finally my ef-adapter came in and I felt so empty without it and was stuck using my ef24-70 f/2.8 limited only 8fps which wasn’t too Shabby but after being spoiled by the slightly superior functionality with that lens/body combo I had to get it. I had been saving up money for an rf lens. Was Gonna buy the 24-70/2.8 but after being able to shoot that wide open, with great accuracy and efficiency I could not settle for anything I felt was less than the best. So I said Ah what the heck the lens is $800 more than the lens I was initially gonna buy and I’d lose a little but of the focal length but I never needed that focal length to shoot portraits in the club anyway so I decided to save a little more. Low and behold I was able to come up with the remainder of the money 2 weeks later and was just reunited with it two days ago when it came to me via amazon after a few days of tracking the availability of it on amazon and google shopping. I was able to catch one that just came in stock at district camera in D.C. Apparently money is no object to many canon users since the item was out of stock in every reseller. I just finished my 2nd night of shooting with it and I’m accustomed to using it now from when I had the rental. It no longer feels heavy and I can handle it like a charm. I have never bought a brand new lens and was like pulling teeth to buy a brand new body at the same time but since the clubs scene has been on overdrive here in Atlanta I’ve been able to take advantage of the opportunity to upgrade all my equipment that have been broken and unserviced for so long. 2020 has been my best year for work in and out of the nightlife. And I have no regrets. I will be working on buying the holy Trinity lens combo minus the 24-70 no matter how long it takes. I’m just glad I was able to get it before some of my non club job bookings kicked in. I feel like I have the Thor’s hammer Of photography and I’m ready to tackle any job with it. The images in this vlog look great and I’m ready to start making my own. ✌️

"I've been able to take advantage of the opportunity to upgrade all my equipment that have been broken and unserviced for so long." Wow. Congrats! Love love love that for you. I'm strongly considering investing in this lens myself, and I particularly love that people are really picking up on the difference in your image content quality. Thanks for sharing. I know most of the time no one reads stuff this long, but I loved it. Hope the bookings keep coming for you.
@MrJustwatchin9
@MrJustwatchin9 3 жыл бұрын
@@longliveclassicmusic honestly is also an upgrade to your workflow as well. When shooting wide open with my 5d, I had to lock focus and recompose a lot in order to get the sharpness. The mirrorless system (no matter which brand) eliminates the need to do that. You just point and shoot. 90% of your shots will have the right focus. It takes all the extra work out of your normal dslr workarounds so you can focus more on your creativity and efficiency. And just about all camera companies are planning on killing their dslr lines anyways canon and Nikon have always discontinued their full frame variants. End of an era. Mirrorless tech is the new standard.

This week i felt in love with this Lens at my local dealer. I was looking for RF24-70 F2.8 or RF28-70 F2. The F2 is heavy but the Bokeh renders so so beautiful. No way back to the RF 24-70 F2.8 for photo and video! Now it´s time to save some money for that one...

@justchris245
@justchris245 4 жыл бұрын
@@fatfreegarage1902 I tried it out and must say that the Combo R6 + 28-70 F2 + only IBIS gave me the most stable results. The 24-70 + IS and IBIS jumps around from time to time. But that depends on how you use it. I thought the same (no IS) but after that it is no problem for me. On the contrary, even an advantage.

Let me tell you this much. As perfect as this lens is, and it is perfect, it is VERY large. I actually laughed out loud when I pulled it out of the box because I did not realize it before I bought it. The videos of it don't do it justice. It's half the size of a fucking football. And its like almost 4 pounds. It absolutely gets the job done, but keep in mind that the beef of this lens is an important factor to take into consideration.

How do you feel about this lens almost a year later? Do you still use it frequently or you find that the weight and size hinders you picking this lens to carry with you? I just ordered one and look forward to trying it out. I'm normally a prime shooter, but with the increase in size of the RF prime lenses, I feel that I'm probably better off just getting the 28-70 then carry 2-3 heavy RF primes anyway.

Great video Samuel, it's really helped. I'm in the process of adding a new lens but they are a ton of cash (especially here in Canada) I'm leaning towards this or the 85mm 1.2. Pre pandemic I did Event photography so I think that the 28-70 would be a good match, and judging by photos I've seen at 70mm, it's going to give some lovely results portrait wise coming in the ball park of the 85mm 1.2.

First off, I love your work! Your tones are dreamy and beautiful. I have the Canon R5 and am primarily a Portrait and Fashion Photographer. I have the RF 70-200 which is honestly perfect and I'm looking to get my next RF lens for work. I have a small build so the idea of carrying this around for a long shoot does sound less fun, but I just love the versatility it promises. I hate having to carry more than 2 lenses around for a shoot and this would solve that issue although the weight won't be cut by very much given the size etc. I'm debating between the RF 85MM 1.2 (since this is my favorite focal length) and this beast (though it seems to be back-ordered everywhere!) . Ultimately would love to own both, but at the moment, only one is in the budget

wow that's a huge lens, not only is it a huge weight burden whenever you use it, but it also limits you and possibly even forces you to buy a stabilizer because of how big it is, Canon really couldn't make it smaller for $3K? this is why I switched to the Nikon Z6, all the lenses are sleek and lightweight, they match the camera body weight and ergonomics, making the camera extremely pleasant to use
