Watched the video. My brain in smoking. Logical yes indeed. 😵 • BTW I am so glad you mentioned about using Google and typing in "Etymology (insert Spanish word) in Spanish." What a great help. Reading further in the etymology, Infierno: "Derived term is infernal." There's my mnemonic.

My vague experience of "lugar" vs. "sitio" is that "lugar" is a big place and "sitio" is a little place. My friend referred to a restaurant as "un lugar" and later on her called the place we were sitting in it as "nuestro sitio". That's the only time I've gotten to compare them.

Hey Spanish Dude, maybe this question is weird, maybe you've gotten it before...but do you know of any KZbinrs similar to you on the flip side? Aka someone teaching English to native Spanish speakers, but that kind of has your philosophy. I've really enjoyed your lessons, I think they make us feel comfortable (the whole "how good are you"..."not as good as I will be" kinda thing). Anyway, asking for a friend...literally lol

In Spain we say "el más allá", "el otro mundo", "la otra vida"...

@@elspanishdude I've remembered other unrelated expression, but with similar construction. You say someone is "de la otra acera" (from the other sidewalk) o "de la acera de enfrente" (from the opposite sidewalk) when he's gay. I'm pretty sure you'll like it as it sounds a bit comical.

yo siempre crei que más allá se traducía como Beyond. Desde el más allá = From beyond.

Mas allá se traduce como beyond, pero para describir una ubicación física relativa. Por ejemplo cuando dices "hasta el infinito y más allá", "to the infinite and beyond" (Toy Story). En este caso cuando dices "el más allá" fíjate en que se usa la palabra "el". Estás refiriendote a un "mas allá" en particular, un concepto, lo que hay después de la vida (after life). Es lógico que cada idioma tenga su forma de decirlo.

Chechux, that's cool. I didn't know that, but it doesn't surprise me one bit. When you think about it, "the beyond" and "the afterlife" are two specific examples of the same basic idea. "El más allá" is just an idea we can apply--whenever we can apply it. There are probably many other translations too.
