That's nice of you to say so, Sir. I have always played multi player first person shooters since BF2 in like, 2004 or something and the skills are transferable from one game to another to a certain degree. However, a few years ago while I was seriously getting into BF3/BF4, I decided to go on a mission to try and find out exactly what it takes to be one of those guys that's always on the top of the score board. Mostly I was reading info on web sites about the hardware and training techniques of people such as pro counter strike players and I also watched some good instructional videos on jackfrags's youtube channel. He represented the UK in world championship counter strike at one time I believe. I intend to make some videos on my conclusions from my quest for knowledge in this area soon. :D The skills are transferable to Arma but, again, only to a degree. I still need lots of time on Arma, no matter what other 1st or 3rd person shooter games I have played. I currently have over 2300 hours on Arma 3. Some of that is messing around in the editor though, so the actual amount of play time, I can't say. However, in my opinion, my main advantage is the knowledge about what is referred to as 'muscle memory' and the way it affects your mouse movement (your aim). That along with your mind set when playing, as you say, you need to try and stay calm to perform at your best. These are things that I learned about during the research that I did.

Thank you for the story freind! I can usually play for an hour or two but after that i start getting too annoyed to play. The majority of my deaths i only notice the enemy just before he shoots me so i usually dont survive a conflict unless i see them first lol

You're very welcome. Yea, spotting enemies and knowing when and how to move around is one of the things that just takes time. It's different in Arma compared to most games as you die faster from being shot and you will often be shot from much further away as well.

Hey dude. You mean recoil? I find it's best to use shorts bursts of fire unless your target is very close. Also, you need to hold the 'steady scope' button as you are shooting, it only works for a short time as it's simulating holding your breath. Another thing that has a major affect on recoil is your stance. If you are kneeling down that helps and if you are prone, that is even better, also using a bipod will give almost no recoil at all. Other than that, the only way to improve is to use the same scope and gun combination a lot and get used to it. You end up learning how to counter act the scope swaying around with your mouse movements. Although, using your mouse like this takes time.

Haha. Yeah, I'm using a very powerful gun and exploiting the 3rd person view in the vehicles a bit to help me see people at times. Still, this was a very lucky round and it's a bit harder to do these days as you get killed by RPGs when driving more and Arma runs a bit better now which has sped up the reaction time of other players from my perspective. :D I've not use this gun for along time now though as I got a little bored of using it all the time.

Funny how ppl still think that: " to effectively control the AO, you need to be in control of a tower" When this is simply not the case. Towers only concentrate your men into an area making it easier for you all to be easily detected and then wiped out.

Hey dude. Yea, you don't need to control the towers to control the AO but, hiding in the towers is effective because it's hard to clear towers and many people do just that. Also, if you control a tower on the same side of the AO that an enemy spawn is on, then that definitely prevents the majority of enemies from being able to enter the AO. They can just avoid the tower for sure but, most people will just go in a straight line to the AO in order to get back in the game as quickly as possible. Anyone in the tower can easily shoot enemies trying to get into the AO. The only way to stop people shooting from towers, other than by clearing the towers is by sniping them. If your team does not have the dominant snipers then this will not happen. This is why IMO controlling the towers, although not needed to control the AO, will still offer a tactical advantage in general. However, King of the Hill is one of those games where anything can happen and the gameplay is extremely varied so sometimes it's good to have the towers and at other times it does not matter, it depends on what else is going on in the AO and that's why I love King of the Hill, you constantly have to change your approach from game to game and there are many different ways to do things.

Most of the kills in the video, I shoot the enemy with more than one bullet. I just keep firing until I see them go down. That is to try to deal with the lag/desync that occurs in Arma and is IMO, necessary in CQB situations in Arma. Because of that, I am pretty sure almost all of the fire fights would have ended the same way for me had I been using any support gun. The longer range shots probably would have been easier with any other support gun IMO. This is due to the Navid having no single shot fire mode and higher recoil.

Keyboard and mouse. You may get the odd player that plays infantry with a joypad but, it's not common or recommended. You do get people using vehicles with joypad though.

There was a stat wipe on King of the Hill recently for the update to version 10 and everyone was reset to lvl 1, I think it was about 4 weeks ago. There are a small number of servers still running version 9.6 and you will still have your stats on there but, they have separated from the main developers of the King of the Hill game mode. So any leveling you do on servers running 9.6 does not transfer to servers running version 10 and vise versa. The servers running 9.6 are the Hostile Takeover servers. There are possibly some other servers too. Since version 10 came out, I've only been playing that because I want to use the new Vorona which is only in v.10 as far as I'm aware. I may play on Hostile Takeover again when they have the Vorona on there. I've got up to level 40 now in V10. A good way to level up is to use the medic perk and go around healing and reviving. Stay close to some team mates and try to revive them when they go down. If you're a pilot, flying people in and out of the sector can earn a lot of money and xp. Just make sure to land or drop people in safe places. Its good to join a group and stay close to other friendlies as you get xp and money when people near you and people in your group get kills. Try to stay in the sector as much as possible and shoot at vehicles because even if you don't totally destroy it, you will still get some xp and money when it despawns just for doing at least some damage.

Hey great video. I've been meaning to ask someone this question, I guess its' you because you mentioned the score a few times. When I play I notice that my actual kill count isn't the same on the Leader Board. Any idea why that is?

Sometimes not all kills show up on the score board for some reason. It can happen when you kill people that are in vehicles I believe. Also sometimes, the scores seem to lag behind the actual gameplay, and then will usually catch up again before the end of the round (can take a while sometimes).

Pretty late to this, but Kills from vehicles do count unless you only get the kill from the vehicle crashing or you hit someone and then they jump out of a heli and kill themselfs etc. you need to actually kill them with your gun to make it count

Thx dude, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I turn down some graphics settings and I play on servers with no more than 90 players to help with FPS. The sever and the number of people playing on it affects the frame rate a lot in multiplayer. In the graphics settings, I set clouds to standard, PIP off, shadows off, AA on 2x and viewing distance I set to 1.5k to help with FPS. King of the hill has a in game menu from which you can set viewing distances. This menu allows you to set different viewing distances for on foot, in car and flying and will override the Arma display settings. You can turn the view distance down to 1K if you still want more frames, but I would not recommend going any lower than 1K.

WTF kind of setup do you run... I'm lucky to get 25fps around there, especially on HT's koth. I have: i7 2600 OC, runs between 4.2-5GHz, still does the turbo thing XFX R9 290 (AMD/ATI) 16Gb memory SSD I think I have my A3 settings done to their best, but please share any insight you'd have. Mobo/CPU is from early 2012, so I'm ready for an upgrade there, but any input you'd have would be helpful.

I would say a new CPU rather than GPU. I would recommend getting a i7 7700k if you can, that would be faster than my current CPU. This will mean new mobo and RAM as well unfortunately. I would also recommend 16GB of decent RAM, at least a matched pair of sticks rather than 1 stick of RAM and a speed of at least 2666MHz. Check out Custom PC magazine for more detailed information of component comparison. My setup: CPU = i7 4790k 4GHz, 16GB RAM, GPU = Nvidia 980 Ti, Creative sound blaster Z, SSD drive for games and windows and 2 HDDs in RAID for recording. I also have 144Hz monitor, which is 24" with 1920x1080 resolution, Corsair K95 RGB keyboard, Logitech G502 RGB mouse and a steelseries QCK mouse mat. The PC is powered by a Corsair 850w power supply and the CPU is cooled by a Corsair H80i. OS is Windows 8.1 pro. Although your PC is a bit slower than mine, I would still expect a little higher frame rate, although the fps in Arma can depend on a lot. The CPU is more important than the GPU in Arma but, you still need a half decent GPU to get good frame rates. Your lower frame rate is a probably a combination of the lower CPU performance and some Arma settings. In this video, I'm pretty sure that I was playing a 90 player server. A 90 player server has a noticeably better frame rate than a 120 player server for me, although since a recent patch to Arma, the 120 player servers give better frame rates now. Indeed. I tend not to use combat stance much myself, the movement is too slow for my liking. If you press the left mouse button it does the same thing and I tend to burst fire a lot, so I end up using the left mouse button to raise my weapon without really having to think about it, just as I am about to fire anyway. I prefer to just aim down down sight and move in 1st person view while still aiming, if I feel the need to raise my weapon before going through a door or whatever. You see me do it in this video, mainly at times when I'm in the towers.

Hey dude. It's adjusting the graphics settings that has the biggest impact on performance. You may find that some start up parameters can also help. I have done a video in which I show my graphics settings and explain why I choose each setting and how each one affects frame rate: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqKyZXVsi9GlgJI I have also done a video in which I show some tweaks as well as my audio and control settings: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaSXfo1vf7usq6c Some of the tweaks may help with FPS also. In king of the hill, there is an in game menu which has it's own view distance setting that will override what's in your graphics settings. I usually set my view distance to 1.5k or 1k for extra frames. There is also an option to turn on/off environmental affects which will also increase fps a little, but I like to keep the environmental effects on myself, it adds a lot of atmosphere. Although it's generally only noticeable when you're sniping or when there is not much going on. I hope this helps.

Hey dude. I think that laptop would be a bit lower fps than 45-60, it's hard to tell with laptops though. Laptop parts do have a little lower performance than their desktop counterparts but, I would guess that laptop would be more like 35-50 (and lower still if in Kavala) on King of the Hill 90 or 100 player server unless you turned the graphics down really low. I'm not to sure about Arma Life, I've not played it that much. The CPU is more important for Arma 3 than the graphics card but, a good graphics card is still important too.

Hey dude. I use the Crewman instead of specialist so that I get an extra bit of head protection. I'm not actually 100% that this will offer any extra head protection, I'm just assuming that it does. I guess I should look it up... OK, well, had a quick look. The specialist hat offers 0 head protection from what I have found. Still not sure about the crewman helmet, it's not so easy to find the info without prior knowledge of where to look. I will get back to you when I have time to look into it more.

i7 4770k, 16MB RAM, SSD and Nvidia 980ti. On 90 player, infantry only servers I get about 50 or 55 average. If I was on a server with more people, it would be lower. Also, when I play on KotH game with vehicles, my fps also goes down a little.

Thank you, Sir. The CPU is more important than the graphics card for Arma 3, a good graphics card still helps. I would recommend using an SSD drive for Windows and Arma, as well. I was trying to be be fast and aggressive when clearing the towers, having a good frame rate, low latency and gun with over 100 bullets in each magazine helped me a lot. :)

The main reason is because it's too slow. Whenever I am moving, I like to move as fast as i can to reduce the chances of being shot. I try to counter the extra time required to raise the weapon by pre-firing some times. That may not always be too easy to notice in the video unless I have started to pre-fire very early. I tend to move while aiming down sight if I feel the need for extra accuracy and speed with getting the first shots in. I will try out combat stance moving again next time I play, the updates can change the usefulness of things like this. It's always worth playing around with stuff like this every now and again as a result.

Yea, the highest kill count will be on full vehicle servers by people using jets, helis or tanks I would imagine. I play mostly on infantry only servers these days myself. 221 - 0 is kinda' suspect though especially as you hit it with AA, I'm no expert on dealing with jets though. You do see cheaters from time to time unfortunately.

Hey dude. I'm not sure what you mean by timings but, bullet drop is mostly about getting used to a particular gun/scope combination. It helps if you know a bit about the gun that you use as well. The gun I'm using in this video has a high maximum range for the engagements that I encounter, so the zeroing of the scope does not matter as much as if I was using a lower range gun like ASP 1 Kir. I find it's best to aim low so you can see if your bullets hit something in front of your target and use that as a visual reference of the adjustments that you need to make, rather than shooting over your target. If you shoot over your target, you can't see how far you missed by.

Why do people choose the Navid over the SPMG? Doesn't the SPMG have a larger caliber round?

The Navid can shoot through more walls than the SPMG, but the SPMG has better accuracy, especially at ranges of over 500 meters. For most people, I would recommend the SPMG over the Navid, but the Navid is better to use against vehicles such as Striders IMO, which is why I use it. Awesome user name by the way :)

Ha thanks. I figured that was the reason, I've been wall-banged many times by players using the Navid. Which is odd because, again, SPMG has a larger caliber round so armour penetration should be better.

From what I understand, speed beats armor so the Navid might be running a much hotter powder behind the round, while the bigger round travels a bit slower and hits harder, making it better to punch through walls. I would assume the SPMG would hit harder through the wall but the Navid hits more rounds in. I'm far from an expert but that'd be my guess.

I play infantry only most of the time and without jets, tanks and attack helis to spend the money on, it builds up fast. Also, I have played for many, many hours. Too many hours lol. It helps with money and XP if you are inside the area of operations as much as possible. Even if you are not getting kills, you get money just for being there.

Hey, I was just wondering how I can be efficient when playing solo in KOTH. Any tips?

Hey dude. I would say, the main thing is try to get into the area of operations as safely as possible and try to stay near some team mates, unless you are sniping. You can revive each other and hear when enemies are shooting at them. Waiting for revives (if you actually get revived at the end of the wait) is faster than respawning and getting back to the AO again but, if you're out of ammo and there's no dead bodies nearby to loot, then respawn for more ammo. It may be a good idea to mute some of the more vocal team mates if their info isn't useful to you. It helps to hear footsteps and doors opening as well as gun fire and vehicles. You need to get lifts off other players into the AO early on when you are trying to save up your in game money, which can get you killed a lot, unfortunately. If you use a vehicle with no armor like a quad bike, you can be killed very easily trying to get to the AO. If you using such a weak vehicle and you are having trouble getting to the AO, ditch it a few hundred metes out and use visual cover such as trees or reeds to conceal your last few hundred meters of movement. You can be shot from anywhere at any time, so don't stay still for too long if you are near the action. I would say it's best to hold up in a building if you want to stay still for a while. General movement should probably be from building to building. Try to get a look at the next area that you want to cross from inside each building. I hope this is helpful.

Hey dude. You can see the server name on the score board when it's on screen. This was recorded on Hostile Takeover EU#2. I'm not sure if HT has any EU servers at the moment, HT split from the official King of the Hill servers sometime last year. This year I've been playing on official servers, mostly C4G Infantry only servers, US and EU and Malden MGT. HT servers are still good too though.

Yea, when you get a lucky round where it all goes your way, you can get lots of kills. The SPMG is also very good. One hit kill, more accurate than Navid at range of more than 500 meters, less recoil and an actual single shot. I still prefer the Navid myself as it has slightly more penetration and I like to use the burst fire against vehicles.

What affects that weapon sway when you scope in? Like I know it’s running but how can you lessen it

As far as I know, you can reduce weapon sway when scoped by kneeling or going prone and holding the 'steady scope' button (I think that's what it's called in Arma ). Holding steady scope only works for a few seconds though as it's simulating holding your breath. Using a bipod is the best way to stop scope sway, but you have to wait for people to walk in front of you when using the bipod, so you need to be well positioned.You can also reduce crosshair movement with your choice of scope. The longer range you are zoomed to, the more the crosshair will sway. Red dot and close range sights have much less sway, almost none on some guns. The weight of the gun is also a factor, so support guns like the Navid or big ass sniper rifles like the Lynx will have more weapon sway than a Katiba for example. You can counter act the sway and the recoil a bit with your mouse movement, but it's hard to do and takes time to learn on Arma and you need to practice training your muscle memory for mouse movements to do it effectively IMO.

Hey dude. It's right 'Ctrl' key and 'm' key at the same time, I believe that is the default controls, anyway. If that doesn't work have a look at the key bindings in the Arma control options, you're looking for 'GPS mini map'. I hope this helps.

Suggestion of not doing a recap narration only. Makes it feel like I'm sitting in a briefing for a mission and not really in the moment. Maybe try to put your audio during the moment into the video and allow your watchers to feel their a part of it too. That or just don't talk monotone the whole video....up to you.

Yea, I have thought about doing that a bit and I have done it on some of my previous videos, mainly Battle Royale if I remember but, in King of the Hill I don't talk that much as I prefer to be constantly listening out for the audio ques and with so much action in a small place, it's really important to do so IMO. I may give it a try some time soon though. As for the voice, I'm still not too experienced at voicing over my videos, but I getting better at it.

Luke9K absolutely. It does take time to get used to essentially talking to yourself awkwardly and making yourself laugh. You almost need to be a bit of a bipolar scitzo. Having a good group of like minded same humored friends helps alot. You don't have to be like other channels where they are joking around all the time, give it your own flare. But the injection of YOU into your voice is major. Luckily you have the decent gamer part down already, just need to work on the cosmetic parts now.

I'm using the Navid in this video. It's largely considered to be the most powerful gun in Arma 3 and overpowered in King of the Hill. Many people ask for the gun to be removed from koth, but it's not happened so far. It can shoot through most walls and is often a one hit kill. It's really good at taking out people inside vehicles too. I used to use it all the time, but I got board of it and so use different weapons now.
