This is a pet peeve of mine. If a card is not a permanent that you can DROP on the battlefield, on curve, it's not a goddamn drop. The term comes from playing on curve being extremely important in high level Limited play, so cards that are not necessarily the most powerful are played because a deck needs something to make good use of its mana. Brainstorm is not a 1 drop- you don't fire off Brainstorm whenever you have a spare mana. Mogg Fanatic is a 1 drop- when you have one mana, go ahead and drop it. Having lots of spells like this lets you double-spell on turn 2-3. Counterspell is not a 2 drop. While it gives you something to do on turn 2, you again shouldn't just be casting it willy nilly and it doesn't affect the board. Snapcaster Mage is usually not a 2 drop. Despite it costing 2 and impacting the board, you usually play it as a specific spell recursion piece with 1-3 mana extra mana available. Dark Confidant is a 2 drop. Drop it early and often to get the best effect out of it. A high density of these cards along with one drops also lets you double spell on turns 3-4. Rampant Growth is close to being a 2 drop. You usually want to cast it early and often to get the most turns with the extra mana. It does leave a permanent on the battlefield. Likewise Raise the Alarm, Lingering Souls, etc. Signets are 2 drops. Lovestruck Beast is a 1 drop and a 3 drop. Awesome! There is no such thing as a 7 drop. 7 is not a point on the mana curve that needs to be considered in order to optimize tempo. You might slam it on the table if you topdeck a land for it, but you can't consider this being on time. If you hear someone call Expropriate a "9 drop" please scoff audibly. That's not a goddamn drop and they know it!

Is it possible to make a krenko mob boss deck and 8 or a 9 on your power scale? If so can you go over a build in a video?
@NitpickingNerds2 жыл бұрын
I think so for sure, but we likely won't be doing a deck tech on that outside of a Tune-Up :)

Great list - the only card which is strongly disagree with is Mana Crypt - it should be either top of A or S. While it does share some similarities with ritual effects, the key difference is that it's a permanent which allows you to pay for it on one turn and then bank it and use it on the next turn. This means that it effectively ramps by 3 instead of dark ritual's 2. The use case for this is way broader than you gave it credit for in this video. Any commander which has a 2-3 colourless pip in its casting cost would be massively powered up by crypt. A t1 mana crypt allows for a t2 gitrog monster or t3 tivit with no other assistance at all. It can easily break a game just as quickly as sol ring does. Also - reusing mana crypt isn't limited to just untapping. It also has amazing synergy with mass flicker effects and bounce.

I will die on the hill that ponder and preordain belong in every blue deck without specific antisynergy. They cost basically nothing, when you play them you're not spending a slot on them you're removing that slot altogether, with the upside of additional card selection. This is even more true outside cEDH where you're more likely to have spare mana and less likely to encounter hate against them (e.g. Chalice of the Void).

This video got me thinking about how nuanced the game can be. Like how would you explain to a new player why Skullclamp is amazing and Village Rites is bad (in EDH anyway; it's an all-star in certain 60 card archetypes) when on the surface they do the same thing?
@zxxDarkLightxxz2 жыл бұрын
Skull clamp does it over and over again, Village rites does it once. It's that simple (in explanation) I guess 😅😆
