You cant put death rite shaman and mana dorks in the same category. DRS has been called a 1 mana planeswalker and for good reason. The card is so flexible. Its graveyard hate a mana dork and incremental damage. It does not compare to birds 1 to 1 in any sense

Preordain is much closer to A than ponder is. With preordain, you know where the cards you didnt want are going. With ponder, there is a chance you shuffle them away just to draw it anyway. I like ponder in a spellslinger deck, but not really anywhere else. Preordain tho fits into more deck archetypes.

Ponder and preordain are both amazing and an auto-include in any blue deck imo. I need a reason to NOT run them. Cast either one of them on turn 1 and smooth out your draws. Cast it on turn 10 and ensure you won’t draw a land next turn. They’re not draw spells, they just make your deck more consistent

💯 agree. I think of ponder as for 1 mana, you can make a 95-card commander deck. It gives you the best out of 3 cards. This makes it so you can remove redundancy and be a little more greedy in your deck building

Red artifact storm decks love faithless looting. Regular storm decks love faithless looting. Spellslinger/Flashback decks love faithless looting (usually also storm decks). Definitely better in decks where you can recur cards in your graveyard, and red has no issue recurring artifacts (Scrap Welder/Goblin Welder type effects, or things like Scrap Mastery/Daretti, Scrap Savant). But in decks that abuse symmetry with Goblin Welder or the like, Faithless is SO good. I'd personally put it in mid-B.

i use village rites in my zombie deck as card draw because i make tokens, and what's so bad about cantrips almost every deck that has blue or red uses them especially feather its also used in every cEDH with blue with people either casting opt, brainstorm or ponder, niv-mizzet also gets a lot of value off of cantrips because then it turns into do something draw a card and deal a damage and when you have things like thousand year storm and arcane bombardment they become pretty insane and you dont need synergy for cantrips either why do you think vamp tutor is so good, you vamp tutor then cantrip drawing you the card that you tutored for, you overlook a lot for cantrips thinking you need stuff like Storm-Kiln Artist to make them any good because cantrips are amazingly powerful

I disagree with nature's claim's ranking. It is easily A tier. It shuts down early game ramp like sol rings, mana vaults, and mana crypts. Hits mystic remoras, skull clamp, a lot of the fast artifact/enchantment shenanigans. Authority of the consuls, sigarda's aid, the list is huge. Nature's claim is easily S tier. If mana dorks are, then so is Claim.

I lovemoxfield and use it for all my decks, however a small quality of life change that I would want for moxfield is the ability to change the spelling of tags without having to change each card individually. Like if I have 10 cards under the tag 'Card draw' and wanted to change them all to 'Card Advantage', I don't want to have to click on the little arrow, then click 'change tags', then change the tag myself. Currently when you click the name of the tag in bold, theres a small drop down with 'Copy section to clipboard' and 'Buy all', Id love for there to be a third 'Rename tag' option

Nerds, If you dont like Village Rites perhaps you can suggest a 1 mana flash creature that sacrifices one of your creatures on etb and leaves you with 2 new cards in hand? I mean if the criteria is that it is only used in a creature deck that you can't play non-creature spells in. Presumingly the same creature deck that can still run a Skullclamp however. It's almost like you don't want to run interaction in creature based decks the way you talk about this card.

This is a pet peeve of mine. If a card is not a permanent that you can DROP on the battlefield, on curve, it's not a goddamn drop. The term comes from playing on curve being extremely important in high level Limited play, so cards that are not necessarily the most powerful are played because a deck needs something to make good use of its mana. Brainstorm is not a 1 drop- you don't fire off Brainstorm whenever you have a spare mana. Mogg Fanatic is a 1 drop- when you have one mana, go ahead and drop it. Having lots of spells like this lets you double-spell on turn 2-3. Counterspell is not a 2 drop. While it gives you something to do on turn 2, you again shouldn't just be casting it willy nilly and it doesn't affect the board. Snapcaster Mage is usually not a 2 drop. Despite it costing 2 and impacting the board, you usually play it as a specific spell recursion piece with 1-3 mana extra mana available. Dark Confidant is a 2 drop. Drop it early and often to get the best effect out of it. A high density of these cards along with one drops also lets you double spell on turns 3-4. Rampant Growth is close to being a 2 drop. You usually want to cast it early and often to get the most turns with the extra mana. It does leave a permanent on the battlefield. Likewise Raise the Alarm, Lingering Souls, etc. Signets are 2 drops. Lovestruck Beast is a 1 drop and a 3 drop. Awesome! There is no such thing as a 7 drop. 7 is not a point on the mana curve that needs to be considered in order to optimize tempo. You might slam it on the table if you topdeck a land for it, but you can't consider this being on time. If you hear someone call Expropriate a "9 drop" please scoff audibly. That's not a goddamn drop and they know it!

Great list - the only card which is strongly disagree with is Mana Crypt - it should be either top of A or S. While it does share some similarities with ritual effects, the key difference is that it's a permanent which allows you to pay for it on one turn and then bank it and use it on the next turn. This means that it effectively ramps by 3 instead of dark ritual's 2. The use case for this is way broader than you gave it credit for in this video. Any commander which has a 2-3 colourless pip in its casting cost would be massively powered up by crypt. A t1 mana crypt allows for a t2 gitrog monster or t3 tivit with no other assistance at all. It can easily break a game just as quickly as sol ring does. Also - reusing mana crypt isn't limited to just untapping. It also has amazing synergy with mass flicker effects and bounce.

I will die on the hill that ponder and preordain belong in every blue deck without specific antisynergy. They cost basically nothing, when you play them you're not spending a slot on them you're removing that slot altogether, with the upside of additional card selection. This is even more true outside cEDH where you're more likely to have spare mana and less likely to encounter hate against them (e.g. Chalice of the Void).
