If you could be somewhere with amazing food, super friendly people, and a well-developed city but affordable, then what better option than Taipei. In this video I talk about the pros and cons about being a nomad in Taipei.
I spent new years eve 2022 watching the fireworks come out of the taipei 101 and that’s the prime time you want to be in taipei.
I’m gonna start with the pros and cons and then go into specific recommendations on where to stay, what to do, and my favorite restaurants.
I'll also be posting weekly videos about digital nomading and things I"m learning along the way. Subscribe so you don't miss out on new video updates!
Pros
- Taipei is food heaven
- You can get all the most amazing food you want such as luroufan , chicken soup, chicken rice, xiaolongbao, zingzi and alooot more
- If you go to the night markets you can eat all of them in one night if you wanted to
- Because it is a big city you can pretty much buy everything you need there
- Fast and reliable internet
- Relatively affordable
- Really good transportation system
- Safety and low crime, locals are really friendly
- air quality is pretty good compared ot other places in asia
- feels very safe even if it’s very late
- Nice parks art museums and night markets so won’t run out of things to do
COns
- compared to the other countries Taipei is not as affordable as Thailand and Bali
- It is also not as backpacker friendly so you get more of a local experience
- locans dont really speak mandarin so it might be a bit difficult to get around if you don’t speak manndarin- Hard to meet people if you don’t speak mandarin, there weren’t as many foreigners living there as in Bali and in Thailand -other than preexisting groups online as a way to meet people, meeting people organically is a bit more difficult like most big cities
- Weather is not the best - Sumer is extremely humid and winters can be quite cool , I’d say the best time to visit is around September or October
- downsides
- was one of the places that was a bit harder to meet new friends and travel together
- was working the night shift because my job was in canadian timezone so that was a little tough as well
- hostels are not the cheapest and it’s a little hard to find a apartment that’s super affordable
