Across the west, cost of living is going up. Europe, the US all are seeing the cost of living going up after covid. So, it s nothing specific to Canada, it s a western reality at the moment

You understate the tax rates - those are federal rates - when you add provincial income tax, the total tax rates on $80K is approaching 40%

I'm renting a new 3 bedroom house single family house in Edmonton for $1850. I earn close to $100k and hear many people say I should buy a house but right now it's insanely expensive and not worth the cost with prohibitive entry costs. That's why I don't bother with places like Vancouver and Toronto.

How come whenever I order food from the grocery store, the beef items are never available. This is a stricktly in canada problem. Do Canadians have a problem with beef? What's going on?

As someone born and raised in Toronto, Canada. I am gonna have to simply agree with everything you said. In all honesty, from my initial perspective and observation Toronto was a really good city. I have made some amazing memories living here! Nowadays everything is just going down hill, unfortunately not only in Toronto but most major cities. Toronto, Canada has had it’s perks which are the summer festivals, concerts, patios, night life, diversity, free health-care etc. It’s devastating to see what our country is becoming known as. A-lot of unstable people in public, violence, drugs / alcohol addicts, less affordability, and homelessness is arising.

Canadas private sector sucks. Canada has no identity...canada doesnt know if it wants to be more capitalist or more social like norway. Country is run by monopolies. Same 3 restaurants everywhere, same 3 stores everywhere. Private sectore is tiny. Social programs suck like healthcare and school

I was a semi pro badminton athlete growing up in Indonesia. It saddens me that I can't afford or find the time to play the sport i love anymore here in Vancouver. I'm making $100k a year and own a couple properties. Even with all that I am still struggling to make ends meet. Considering to leave Canada for the first time in more than a decade living here. The quality of life has gone down very quickly. Lastly, she's absolutely correct about the healthcare system. 13 years and I still can't get a family doctor.

I don't understand why everybody thinks that if every single homeless person were NOT a drug addict and NOT taking drugs that somehow magically homes would appear for them to live in. So I don't understand why everybody keeps needlessly conflating some imaginary "drug crisis" with the very physically real physically observable homelessness crisis.

I generally hate the complete lack of self awareness of travellers/nomads. When they figure out how everyone locked up in prison can travel as much as they do, then I'll take their advice seriously.

I have lived in the USA my entire life (60 years), in low density single family housing, and even when I was born I felt it was simply physically unsustainable to be so car dependent. In the 1970s I did ride the bus quite a number of times, into Philadelphia. However, I was still able to physically walk (about 2 miles) from my house to my high school. I walked (1.5 miles to my middle school. And I walked a mile to my elementary school. I did not like the long walks. Nevertheless, I did and still to this day DO enjoy being SPREAD OUT, AWAY from my neighbors. My childhood home was a multilevel house, with a basement, which I loved, which was cool. But, my father wanted a single story house for my disabled rheumatoid arthritic mother, so he bought our current house in 1993. I love that feature of the house: NO STAIRS! You can roll a wheelchair in RIGHT from the driveway. And when my father bought this house, he modified it in a number of ways, including adding a wheelchair ramp to the rear porch. I AM well aware and have ALWAYS BEEN well aware of the INJUSTICE of car centric extremism. The racist bulldozing of homes to build highways and parking lots. The choice of public transportation denied to those who want it, who need it, who cannot afford cars of their own or physically cannot drive them. But, I don't care about aesthetics. JUSTICE=fairness comes first. Then functionality/practicality. While I personally cannot financially sustain living in my current house, and while I have always --- even when I was a kid - pictured myself living in an apartment, I ALSO would hate to do so because I would hate having neighbors. So, I want to live in a world where I am FAR away from neighbors, but where PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION dominates over cars.

Canada is now a disaster to live in. I am now nearing retirement age and what I am dealing with is the rise in cost of living, especially rent. If I were young, i would definitely consider moving out and settle in another country where living is affordable.

You made some great points. Canada is currently under political attack by a traitorous government. Things have become exponentially worse over the terms of Justin Trudeau. The States is witnessing the same phenomenon with Biden. I don't know what young people should do. It depends on the young person. My son seems to want to flee to New York for one of those big tech jobs. The economies of the Western world seem to be near collapse, by design. No one could mess it up that badly on purpose. The people of the world will experience a growing Darkness. Although the Darkness is worldly and carnal, it is primarily Dark Spiritual forces. It is time to connect to your soul and Creator. Clubbing is not going to help, although I understand young people. Most likely you will be unprepared for what is about to happen and you will only react to it. If you want to be guided with wisdom then seek the wisest person I know: Jesus Christ. Without Him there is NO HOPE. Be blessed.

I left Canada over 20 years ago and was contemplating on returning so I started searching for an affordable home. I was in luck (so I thought). I found a shipping container a two hour dogsled ride from Iqaluit on Baffin Island. It was a bargain at $400,000 and the property taxes were only $3,600. When I contacted the real estate agent, he informed me that it sold within an hour and that I shouldn’t wait so long the next time a bargain like that is on the market.

Valid points, but I will say that Canada isn't just Vancouver and Toronto. Its also Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, Quebec City, and Winnipeg and many other smaller cities, and id say al the cities that I listed are significantly cheaper and have job opportunities just as good. While other countries are cool and I did go to Europe for about 2 and a half months last year it wasn't for me I found myself constantly missing Canada. I am 19 about to move to Edmonton for university we bought a place there for 112k (crazy good price) so we don't have to worry about rent prices going up. I would like to stay in Canada because the immigration process is hell and I don't want to go through that cuz growing up i saw how hard it was for my mom but If i ever have to move Id just move to Ukraine or Russia because I already have a Ukrainian citizenship by birth and an ability to get Russian citizenship due to my ethnicity/ancestry.

Why everyone is leaving Canada? Are you s-t-u-p-i-d? The huge majority is not leaving at all. Secondly, the grass is always greener on the other side. I got news for you. All countries in the world are doing far worse than before, Canada is no exception. Housing issues? Talk to the people elsewhere, like in the Netherlands. lol

Currently, I live in Vietnam, I went to the hospital last week, and I booked an appointment with a doctor at 9:30 AM, left work and went to the hospital at 11:00 AM got everything done at 1:30pm (including symptoms diagnosis, ultras sound diagnosis, waiting to buy medicines), and went back to work. It took me about 2+ hours in an afternoon and around 64 USD. It is still expensive for some Vietnamese because it is a private hospital and without insurance.

I live in Vancouver and I am one of the lucky ones in a good situation and circumstance but I can see why so many people are leaving. I agree with your statement on a brain drain in Canada or Skilled people leaving this country to work in the United States, now many High Level services are not accessed by English Speakers but by Foreign speaking people who can talk to the Highly Skilled people who provide services in Medicine Education etc. more and more the Elite of Vancouver is a growing circle of Non-English speaking people who have a vested interest in Vancouver. Another astounding development in Canada for the common class looking to work in entry level low skilled jobs there is no place for them many being pushed out of that labor market by foreigners and now they are forced to the streets or must rely on crime to provide for themselves an astounding development now many before middle class or upper middle class people forced to crime and being shot up in public. This recent set of developments seemed to happen almost overnight. I wish for the best for all people New and Old in Canada but it really is another world now.

The grass is always greener on the other side. I recently moved from a third world country (through federal skilled worker programme) and yes, although its really hard to get jobs as an immigrant even though you are qualified and the cost of living is high, back in my home country is 10 X worse. The crime is out of hand, the system is way more corrupted, public healthcare and education is terrible and costs are almost equivalent if not better here. Canada may not be the most welcoming place for skilled immigrants as the government makes it out to be (been here 4 months now and still struggling to get a job or land interviews, Canadians not as genuine or friendly as stereotyped to be) but I know I made the right decision at least for my future self and family. For all Canadians who are still here because they feel stuck - demand better, vote for better before it is too late. It's too late to fight back from where I'm from hence the reason I left but it isn't too late for you all.

Unfortunately there is no shortage of family doctors, it’s that the doctors don’t open practices because there is more money doing locum rotations, so you go to crappy walk in clinics and get crappy locums. I can’t get a family doctor either, and after an emergency visit for a spinal injury I was referred to a physiatrist in September 2021, still waiting for my appointment. I will go to Thailand for a doctor.
