Wow. We’d heard sailing the New Zealand coastline was going to be pretty epic, but we really had not expected such beauty. Sailing the rugged east coast from the Bay of Islands down to Auckland and back was quite the adventure. This weather is still going to take us some time to get used to. Join us in the longest SLV episode ever made!! It took me a bloody long time to make. Lots of love, Elayna

Too bad for Abbey !, Elayna, though, you absolutely glow when you are out on the ocean. You wear the La Vagabonde life extremely well, indeed, and it's obviously good for your soul, health and well being...though as you've stated it is not for everyone. Love the longer video.

+Sailing La Vagabonde you should invite Abbey back when you get the catamaran. They're usually more stable so she might not be affected so badly.

Crewed a Cat for a while and the owner bought it predominantly so his easily sea sick daughter could join in family trips. Not perfect, but definitely less inducement. A couple of his friends had similar issues and were far happier to flotilla aboard the Cat than our monohull companions. I suspect the broad patio spaces of Cat help.

Elayna and Riley: I recognize that these videos can often unintentionally simplify the difficulties of your adventure and lead to your encountering people who like the idea of sailing but aren't necessarily going to enjoy the experience, and I find there is sometimes a lack of support for Elayna in these comments and hope you're able to brush the negativity off. thanks for the long one and good luck!

I spent several years as an airborne radio traffic reporter, flying in the back seat of 4 seat plane with all of my radio equipment. I remember my first months throwing up between my traffic reports into a plastic bag! :( I tried every herbal remedy, ginger, wrist bands, patches, you name it. It was medication (meclizine) that finally did the trick for me. Everybody is different of course. I only had to take it for a few weeks until my inner ear adjusted. Motion sickness is brutal and I feel for Abbey!!! Being stuck out there with NOTHING... oh boy.. awful! And GREAT vid by the way! An hour! That was a special treat! :)

What I liked most about this episode: Very long. I can't get enough of you two. Lots of Elay being silly and lots of each of you reflecting. I really like listening to you pour your hearts out to us. Thank you so much guys! Plenty of beautiful scenery--sunsets, culture, storms, etc. I like meeting or when you meet people on the street. Like the disability sailing group. That was pretty awesome. Riley, Yes, you are pretty much a wizard on the drone too. ("I'm pretty good too Elayna.") haha. I kind of felt sorry for you Riley when she said the other two guys were wizards but did not compliment you. I'm sure she knows you rock though! lol. 3 years?!! Wow. I've watched you since episode one. Hard to believe it's been three years and I still have not done any significant sailing with Amazing Grace (my boat). Sigh. Soon, I hope. God speed my friends! With much aloha, Rick & Mayville on Oahu. p.s. when are you passing through here?

The worst sea sick I've been was moving my dad's Paceship 29' from Atlantic City, to Essington PA. The day we started out there was 20+ knot winds, 3-4 foot waves at a frequency of 30 feet. I chummed the water for hours. It wasn't until we passed through the Cape May canal, when the water calmed, that I felt better. Longest night of my life. I find it better just to be sick until your body can adjust to the boat (it will eventually). Taking dramamine makes me too tired to do anything. I end up sleeping all the time and missing the trip.

I’m catching up on back videos … and as a New Zealander, feeling proud of Riley and Elayna for this ‘long’ video and the history lesson on our nation’s discovery … all in all this has been a wonderful watch .. and these two have not changed… still their authentic selves! Have to say I prefer the catamaran vs. the Beneteau as the former is far quieter in heavy winds and sea. I’ve sailed yachts and not realised there’s a smoother ride on a cat!! Sailing in the Waitemata Harbour is fab on a sunny day. Okey comes back … hilarious and clearly a very good mate. Abby is a sweet gal and I hope her decisions panned out for the best. You do pick up some excellent crew..JP, Bryce, Patrick. Watching 12Jan22.. 🐑🐑🇳🇿🇳🇿👏🏼👏🏼

Great to see you enjoying being back on the water and well done for highlighting Sailability. This is such a wonderful organisation, which is replicated all around the world in various guises. As you know well, the freedom and sense of wonder that being on the water can give to people is priceless, so being able to do that despite a disability is even more fulfilling. Cheers from Albany in Western Australia :)

Great videos. I have a tip for you. When cutting onions wear underwater goggles, they work a treat. I've been wearing goggles for thirty years when peeling and chopping onions. I used to wear the full face mask with the 18 inch pipe connected and a ping pong ball in the end. I stopped wearing that cos I got a knock at the door and opened the door looking like turnip and trying to hold a sensible conversation with a neighbour who was still in hysterics when he left. Funnily enough, his eyes were steaming but not because of onions! Needless to say, I decided to wear just the goggles that cover they eyes. Ok, you may look daft, but better that than your eyes stinging. If you are just cutting onions, then do it underwater, the onion under water that is. I've just noticed in ep 76 about 20 mins in, there was a shark in view. Its dorsal fin was huge, bigger than the boats Happy sailing

This is possibly the best episode of SLV to date. I finally am up to date with my all time favorite YT channel after starting from the Med ep. 1 last week, these past 4 years have been epic and I'm starting to get sentimental because you guys are moving on to the cat and La Vaga carries so many memories with her. Gave a like to every single one of you episodes and hope to meet the pair of you one day and to invite you both to stay for free as long as you want in my eco resort that I'm building in remote East Indonesia. Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world with arguably the most diverse people that inhabit it, with 17,000 islands to explore. The East of Indonesia is currently the last frontier of South East Asia and I would love to show you around the province of East Indo that I call home, Maluku. Hopefuly you guys will see this and consider sailing in Indonesia one day. You really are an inspiration for me to keep pursuing my dream of keeping East Indonesia a clean place for tourism to sustainably develop in. Much love, Jamen

This was such a great episode. at first i thought it was way to long but now after watching it i feel completely mellow and relaxed! It becomes more of a story and you get to see the highs and lows.. those shorter episodes tent to be more happy and (maybe) superficial. ^^ this works for me while i'm looking at something stationary. (The horizon, a slow moving cloud, weather balloon if near shore) But as soon as I go back to doing anything else I'm back to being sick. It's a horrible, miserable time. Luckily it doesn't happen to me very often, and usually passes after an hour or two of rail time.

I've gotten motion sick since I was 1 year old according to my Dad. Scopolamine is amazing. You have to apply it one day in advance and may give you dry mouth but it's totally worth it.

Brilliant video guys, wow and 53 minutes as well. Shame about Abbey, wishing her all the best. Who is that South African engineer fixing the winch? I think you have spent more time in New Zealand than anywhere else in the world.... Can't wait for "Catalayna" videos after 4th March. Coolbeans.

One word FANTASTIC. Actually there are a few more words. The quality, entertainment value and shear profesionalism of the work you put out on youtube has got to be some of the best out there. Not only on youtube but every other platform on this planet including the T.V. chanels. I cant think of anything else I would rather watch. Well done S.L.V. Keep em coming.

I liked Abbey a lot and I subbed to her channel weeks ago, but I have to say I think this channel will be better without her. This is not a slight on her abilities. I just think that SLV works better with an informal format. I think having a hired videographer takes away some of the personality of the videos and make it feel more like a "production" than just a couple filming their epic adventures. That being said I wish Abbey the very best of luck in the future. I am sure she is going to go on to do amazing things.
