Here he is!! I know exactly how you feel. You're miserable, but at least the booze doesn't have that hold over you. Your life doesn't revolve around it or is controlled by it. It's all progress, mate. You're also not alone in how you feel. I listen to you describing my own feelings and thoughts and it's almost comforting knowing someone else feels the same. If you need any help or advice with training or diet, I've probably forgotten more than most people know 😂. Proud of you, mate, well done on 1 month! 👏

I guess not drinking can give you a better platform to face your problems and ‘work on them’ in future. I always has the idea that one day i would fix everything all at once, but it just became very overwhelming when I tried. I think it’s great that you are able to not drink and stick to it even when you feel shit or even when the motivation to feel better fades away, because it won’t always be like that, and gives you a better starting point.

ONE MONTH DOM!!!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!! I'm so proud of you mate. It's not easy when you're miserable to deny the booze, I know that firsthand. You're doing the right things, and if you keep doing the right things you WILL reap the rewards. Progress is not linear, things will be easy for a bit, then they will suddenly become extremely challenging. It's okay to struggle, and it's expected that there will be some hard times, but you can do it. I was unemployed for a long time, and booze and food were my vices. Our society places so much emphasis on men's worth being linked to their profession/productivity. I suspect that a lot of the reason I drank/ate was to puish myself for being an unemployed "loser". I finally got the break i was waiting for, got a job, and now things are slowly getting better. Do I love my job? No, it fucking sucks most of the time... but better is still better. At least my liver doesnt ache while I walk to work. I hope you can discover the healing and inspiring properties of art again. Music and film have pulled me out of the deepest pits of despair. I saw Asteroid City last year, and it made me cry in the theater. It's a lovely film, all about the meaninglessness of life, but how we keep telling the story anyway. Would recommend it, although you might think it's pretentious shite like a lot of others. Take care, Dom. If you make it through days like this, nothing can stop you. An object in motion will stay in motion, and you've been making the right moves for 31 days. you're doing great.

LETS GO DOM!!! It's definitely not pointless. Making this one change is literally changing how you engage with the world at every level. You're waking up. Without the numbing of alcohol, of course, it's going to hurt. You are in the real world now, and it is beautiful and painful. You are way too self-aware to go back to numbing it away. YOU CAN DO THIS!

I think diversionary tactics are great for when you feel low and pointless. Remember how utterly terrible you felt every day when drinking, surely this isn’t anywhere near as bad as that. Like you say, we have limited time before we die so life is about finding the joys and satisfactions from being here and that absolutely won’t be found at the bottom of a bottle. Just keep trying and always reach out to others if you’re struggling.

I don't believe in sin in the religious sense. I believe in right and wrong certainly but there is nothing wrong with taking pleasure in food and drink, even if that drink has alcohol in it. I think what it all boils down to the need to take everything in moderation. The crux of the issue is that life doesn't always help you do just that. Depression is a bitch and when it hits you, all one can do is reach for what makes us feel good in that moment, even if in the long term, it does the exact opposite. There is a reason why intellectuals are usually fat and balding. We worry more because we know more, that accounts for the balding. Because we worry more, we think more which means that our sleeping patterns are all fucked up and we eat pizza or whatever it is we can find at 3 in the morning because our sleeping patterns are fucked up. And of course, food should ideally be consumed no later than 9 in the evening so when we destroy that pizza at stupid o'clock, our bodies struggle to digest which leads to weight gain and the cycle continues.

Dom try intermittent fasting ie lunch at 12-2 and dinner 6-8. Two meals per day. Do this for a week and then do Keto. You’ll lose 20 pounds in the first month, half will be water weight but it’s a great way to quickly get you on track and you’ll see a huge difference very quickly! Good luck

I know it’s all amateur psychology from an unqualified person commenting on KZbin. But it feels like you need routines, purpose, companionship, and to feel part of something. Stay off the drink, stay off the takeaways, stick with making the videos and streaming (even just to interact with us your audience), seeing friends, and look into a part time job doing something you might like, ie working at a museum, a library, a theatre. Somewhere you will be around stuff you enjoy and interacting with people and enhancing their experience of it. View it as a role to be played if you feel demotivated at the thought of a “normal job”. It’s all about short term goals and hobbies like getting outside on walks and not being overwhelmed by the vastness of the world as a whole. You have talent and skills that can be applied (piano, acting, seemingly incredibly good/lucky at gambling), it’s just finding ways to feel part of something and not alone with negative thoughts.

@@DommyBW I do one very large coffee in morning then switch to loose pu-erh tea through day in a heat cup that keeps it warm. It’s very addictive and helps curb appetite - and feels like a self care thing. I got a thermal coffee cup from Temu (I know I’m poor lol) and individual paper tea bags I fill and top up with hot water every few hours. It has really helped with lots of things and feels like self care. My coffee intake now only happens once in day and while the tea is slightly caffeinated it doesn’t make me feel like over use of coffee did. That one small change has helped me over past six months and tbh weight has been coming off me steadily and this small change is part of that. From month three I really noticed changes so keep at it - very very small incremental changes for you yourself will become big wins! Small and steady x
