Star Trek: The Next Generation: S3E21-Hollow Pursuits
This is just one of Lieutenant Barclay's holodeck fantasies that appear in this episode in which he worries Guinan, pushes Geordi across Ten Forward, intimidates Commander Riker and entices Counselor Troi. Can someone say "sociopath" for me? Because it's on the tip of my tongue so i can only type it....

What gets me most about this scene is the fact that Barclay (apparently) sees LaForge as an arrogant, self-righteous jerk, for telling Barclay to do his job, when LaForge actually struggles with his own insecurities and social difficulties. It's just that LaForge deals with it by putting himself more into his job, while Barclay deals with it by retreating into fantasy. I kind of get the feeling that if they learned how to communicate better, they could get along. It makes it kind of sad to me that Barclay fantasizes about beating him up, when in different circumstances, they maybe could be friends.

Fanon plot twist: Q plays a prank on Barclay and teleports him to the real Ten Forward without him knowing where he unwittingly confronts the real Riker and Geordie. Amazingly it works because none of them ever believed he had it in him. It took him a a whole duty shift to realize it was reality by which time the senior officers were all terrified of him. Oh and he won the heart of the real Deanna Troi.

1:46 I should point out, Barclay wasn't obeying orders there, he was simply going to engineering TO SHUT LA FORGE UP ONCE AND FOR ALL, and then sabotage the warp core with his bare hands to render the ship immobile in space for a while so he could get back to his holoprogram without any disturbances. Also, Reginald Barclay made me type this. ;*(

1:21 I wanna see the part where la forge brings worf and ten security guards with phaser rifles back with them, and then Barclay takes them all out in a big firefight, then beats up the entire bridge crew, corners Picard in his ready room and makes him whimper behind his desk while pressing the phaser rifle against his cheek. Not to mention the part where he grabs Wesley by his collar, lifts him up several feet against the wall and shakes him.

Just rewatched this episode, and had forgotten how close to home it hits. I am an introvert who used to be extremely socially awkward, and in my last workplace, I experienced almost a real-life channelling of this episode. A super rude bully of a co-worker who harassed me non-stop, as Geordi is being in this episode. A "Riker", being the CFO who also carried a silent grudge towards me, and then finally a friendly CEO who did what he could to encourage the best in me, while telling his complaining employees to "suck it up". Fortunately, I am in a much better position now. Still an introvert always will be. I have built an impenetrable iron confidence around that, and I have learned to deal with facts as I find them, meaning I can carry out my work and be proud of it without fear of judgement.

I was just as pissed off and angry with some of the managers I had back when I use to work at Home Town Buffet as Lieutenant Barclay was at his superior officers during the first few months he was serving on the Enterprise. Lieutenant Barclay was pissed off and angry at his superiors on board the Enterprise for the exact same reason why I was pissed off and angry at some of my managers when I was still working at Home Town Buffet, because they were being rude, mean and ugly to him just like how some of the managers I had when I was working at Home Town Buffet were being rude, mean and ugly to me. Therefore me and Lieutenant Barclay have a lot in common with each other. If I had a holodeck, I would have handled my raging anger I felt towards the Home Town Buffet managers that were being extremely rude and mean to me, the exact same way that Lieutenant Barclay was using the holodeck to handle the raging anger he felt towards his superior officers that were being extremely rude and mean to him.

I often wonder what I would rather have from Star Trek. A place just like Risa, and I mean with everything Risa has. Or a holodeck. I'm sure a lot of people would say a holodeck because you can tell the computer to create Risa. However, I don't know if you can have sex with simulated women. Plus, look at all the times the holodecks creations took over the ship, or came to life and walked through the Arch. The pros and cons of this decision would make for a great podcast. I think I would pick Risa.

Holodecks raise a cool ethical question that I am not sure if Star trek has addressed yet. If you can live out your fantasies, should some fantasies not be allowed to be practiced? If you are on earth, it might not matter as the danger is little to none. If you are a ship with weapons on the frontier, getting into the habit of genocide or rape on the holodeck might produce disastrous behavior if the holodecks are down for the month. The holodeck might be down because of a short military engagement or whatever. Clearly, you should not be allowed to use the holodeck with the people on your current ship unless it is training or something approved by everyone.

The moral question I wish they would have addressed is that multiple times characters were implied to be having sex with holographic versions of real crew members, which is akin to seeing medical files or nude images of a coworker without their consent. What a person wants to fantasize about is one thing but allowing sexual activity with a holo character of a shipmate (or any real person) shouldn't have ever been allowed
