Totally awesome video Cammy. So informative. If I had life to live over it would be on a farm with cows and sheep. I know it’s a lot of work, but since watching what you do I have fallen in love with sheep and the wee lambs. Thank you Cammy. Oh before I forget...if there is ever a time you have a spare moment could you show us your family shield. Do you have a kilt? When if ever is it proper to wear a kilt. Can you play the bag pipe? Can you dance like the men do with the tap shoes. I want to know and see so much of my heritage. I’ll be 70 in October. I don’t know if I will ever get to see Scotland. I am so thrilled with what you share with us. My best to Lizzy and the boys.

Cammy, the bolus use is new to me. When I need to bolus it’s mostly for medication. The sheep breeders I know and sorta don’t know don’t use them around here. Our sheep get supplemented mineral via free choice salt/mineral mixtures, blocks and tubs. Mineral is also added to many formulated grain rations. One day when I get the time I’ll have to figure if bolus would lower operation cost vs tubs and salt use. I’m not even sure we can get those kinds of bolus in the states, never looked in to it. What is the cordless shear you use?

Great use of word ‘circa’ 😎 so professional. Boluses, and trace elements in general, aren’t regulated in the same way as medicines so are a bit of a dark art. Some products are definitely better than others! In any case, testing before treating is definitely a good idea, esp for copper.

Does you local area not have each sheep farmer use specific colours/markings for there flock? From sheep fan to sheep fan. Instead of a bolus, you can also use a cobalt B12 drench with selenium, but without iodine / iron. Greetings from Holland. PS, what a beautiful sheep that is, the Mule. Especially the scottish blackface / bluefaced Leicester cross.

@@TheSheepGame A bolus has a much longer effect, for you much more interesting and less labor-intensive. A drench has an effect of 4 to 6 weeks.
@annathornburn47164 жыл бұрын
Is the Bolus instead of a mineral drench? I’ve never done either, I provide the mineral buckets year round, changing depending on seasons, but they don’t contain copper. Am definitely interested in hearing about the blood test and results thereof! Maybe should do mine and see what I get!!
@TheSheepGame4 жыл бұрын
Bolus would be in lieu of a mineral drench yes. I think it’s more effective and a steadier release plus it lasts 6 months. Mineral buckets are expensive and the sheep will sometimes eat then even when they don’t need them. Definitely worth blood testing because it will tell u a lot about your ground and it’s not expensive. (Not sure how much mine was yet). I have a vlog coming next Wednesday about my blood test. 😁

Loads of reasons Ben. To make this thing work it has a wide body which is hard to grip, it’s plastic and easily broken, batteries only last a short time, the blade speed is much slower than a normal 3 speed electric motor so u have to shear very slow with it.
