So, to clear up confusion, the bigger shuttles are Sentinel-class landing craft used mainly for troop transport; the Lambda-class T-4a shuttle that we often see is a multi-purpose transport most often used to transport high ranking Imperials such as Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine himself. Both were created by Sienar Fleet Systems, the same company that makes the TIE series (TIE fighters, TIE bombers, TIE interceptors, etc.; we see all three of those in this episode). Also, Wedge Antilles is from Corellia, one of the Core Worlds (also the homeworld of Han Solo). There is another Antilles that appears in Star Wars: Captain Raymus Antilles who commanded the Tantive IV. We see him at the end of Revenge of the Sith with Bail Organa and he is the leader that gets strangled to death by Darth Vader at the beginning of A New Hope when they are looking for Princess Leia and the Death Star plans. People were bringing it up, but he is not related to Wedge; Antilles has been said to be the Star Wars equivalent of the last name 'Smith' (as in, very common). The other pilot that Sabine brings back is Derek "Hobbie" Klivian from the planet Ralltiir. He would eventually join Rogue Squadron with both Wedger and Luke Skywalker until the battle of Hoth in Empire Strikes Back (we actually see him during the briefing; he even has a line: "Two fighters against a Star Destroyer?" referring to the strategy of sending two X-wings to escort each transport as the Rebels evacuated). He would fly a T-47 airspeeder (the snowspeeder's official name) with Rogue Squadron, managing to stay in the air far longer than the majority of Rebel pilots in the battle, when his speeder would be crippled by a laser blast. He decided not to eject from his ship, instead crashing his speeder into the head of Blizzard 1, the AT-AT belonging to General Maximilian Veers (the Imperial officer leading the attack), destroying it and blunting the Imperial advance while saving numerous Rebel lives. Unfortunately, despite his heroic sacrifice, Veers would survive and later be taken to a medical center on Carida for his injuries.

Squadrons is actually less vomit inducing in VR. The problem with the 2D version is you can only see what is directly in front of you, it's easy for enemies to attack from the side while you are trying to take down the Star Destroyers or other targets and the whole thing becomes overwhelming. In VR you can quickly turn you head and see them coming at you and respond appropriately. I used to play online and smoke anyone playing in 2D, it was made specifically for VR and then later ported to 2D. As a Star Wars fan, it's worth it just to sit in all of the various cockpits in VR.

Guys, as far as I know Wedge is not from Tatooine. If memory serves me correct he is actually from Alderann. His father, Captain Antillies, was the commander on Princess Leia's ship who gets his neck snapped by Vader at the start of episode 4.

Are you guys ok? The R-22 spearheads (precursors to the R-Z1 A-Wings) are very fast when you don’t realize is that look slow because of the blocking in the scene and the fact that there isn’t enough space inside the 3-D model for them to travel in so they have to kind of slow things down a bit to make them fit. But it could also be the fact that you were paying attention to the ships around them which are also moving.

I never understand insisting on having new stories connect to the films, yet whining about “fan service.” It’s not fan service if it actually advances the plot. Why are Wedge and Hobbie recruited? Because the big bad Empire is successfully killing off the little guys and they need more pilots. That’s ridiculously believable. Oh no, they mentioned pilots we’ve heard of! Almost like they got their later roles through experience! *Gestures widely* Oh look! Experience.

Droid soldiers are seen as a symbol of the defeat separatists and thus the empire didn’t want to use them. Same goes for droid piloted vehicles edit: they only used droids in support roles and in small quantities

A lot of the support for the Empire in the early days was because of the atrocities committed by the droid army, trying to replicate it would cause them a lot of problems. Plus the downsides of using people, the death toll, is something that the Empire really doesn’t care about and it has the benefits of helping the economy and causing a larger amount of the population to support them.

Why doesn't anyone remember that Darth Sidious is a Politician? Droids vs Human pilots... Clones vs Stormtroopers... IT DOES NOT MATTER. THEY ARE NOT THERE TO WIN BATTLES. The purpose of the Clones and the Droids is to have massive devastating battles between two completely disposable armies. The purpose of the Empire using so many regular people in their Military-Industrial Complex is that it ties their lives to the Empire's existence. Stormtroopers and TIE pilots are a Voting Block even if their votes don't matter.
