Been a Noah fan since I first heard his song Family on Sons of Anarchy. Immediately looked him up and couldn’t believe he was so young. That voice. I started going to his shows, he always took the time to talk to people after the show. He’s very quiet, deliberate, and humbled off stage. His sister, Abby, is an amazing musician too. Recently he shared that he contemplated giving up music which is heartbreaking. Luckily, he didn’t and released a new album last year. I always find something in his music to relate to. And that voice, it’s comforting and haunting and heartbreaking at the same time. Hearing his evolve as a musician, writer, and human has been an experience and I’m lucky to be around to share in these moments. So glad you featured him live, doing what he does, connecting with people in our shared human experience

The song character Maria clearly means something to Noah. And 'she' very clearly meant something to Adam Duritz, because the character was recurring on the album 'August and Everything After' and elsewhere in his impressive catalog of songs. And it really doesn't matter if Maria is a 'real' person. Clearly she's real to Noah. Great reaction to a great performance of a great song by a great lyricist.
@michaelsimmons55055 ай бұрын
"There's a piece of Maria in every song I sing...." A. Duritz
@Leafsdude_2 ай бұрын
Not sure if you care, but in case someone does: Adam has said that Maria is an internal distaff counterpart that he, basically, created as a muse to talk through his lyrics with. Worth noting he's stated he has dissociative disorder, which, among other things, creates a mental (and emotional?) separation between experience and emotion. From what I've heard, the line "I walk through the air/between the rain/through myself/and back again" is a perfect description of the sensation. In that understanding, Maria as a idea to place that experience upon makes a lot of sense, IMO. It's probably difficult if not impossible to associate it with oneself as effectively in such a situation.

There's so many songs from the 70s, 80s, and 90s that hid their darkness behind pop music that was happier sounding. Mad World by Gary Jules was probably the 1st one to peel back the layers on a song like that. When they 1st came out in Top 40 I wasn't yet digging on what was replacing what we called rock n roll. As my life fell to pieces I began paying more attention to lyrical value rather than guitar, percussion, time signature, tempo, and such. Counting Crowes, particularly this song helped understand where, when, and how healing begins. After all these years, the struggle continues as embarrassing as it is but this 1 is still on my play list.
