Here's a few links for my favorite credit cards. I try to check the links often, but let me know if there is a problem. If they change the offer on the card, I may need to update the link. Full disclosure, I get a few airline miles for referring a new customer. You should get the same public offer at no additional cost. Thank you very much.

I was hospitalised for a week with raspatory issues at the Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital, they were professional, courteous and quick off the mark with my treatment, I paid out of pocket but it was well worth it. Thank you Joe for your insight and your assurance that Bangkok private hospitals are the best.

Hi Joe, I was in Pattaya in April and came down with a bad case of bronchitis. I am from northern California and have Kaiser so I called them and told me just send them the receipts and the treatments that were given for the doctors here at home. The bill amazingly was only 180.00 so I paid for it with that in my pocket. Fabulous treatment.

Man it’s funny how things change as you get older. When we’re young we’re like: “I’m a sports guy” or “I’m a music guy”. Then somewhere along the line it becomes: “I’m the gout guy” or in your case the “kidney stone guy” or “I’m the prostate guy”. Honestly I don’t remember this being in the handbook. Oh well. Thanks again for another great video.

Excellent video. I had 5 1/2 hours of neck surgery at Bumrungrad back in 2013 while living/working in Shanghai. My experience is that Bumrungrad is one of the best hospitals in the world. If there is any retired US military disabled vets, do you know if 100% disabled can use their benefits in Thailand? I am also going to be a retired Federal employee, would FedBlue be a better option that the VA insurance? On another subject, taking into account your age and with my position as a FAA ASI, I'm thinking that you might have been a ATC. Enjoy Thailand anda keep these great videos coming. I plan on spending time in Thailand after retirement

Hey, thanks for watching. No, I wish I was ATC. I have my private and flew in Southern California. I learned on North Island Naval Air Station. So, even as a student pilot, I was taking off and 5 minutes later doing a Bravo transition, and 2 Class D. So I got pretty good on the radio fast. But for work, I was a mailman in San Diego. Of course, do your research. But I have a tips playlist. I talk about using my Blue Cross at Bumrungrad. I just have the basic option. Bumrungrad is in network. I did 4 years in the Navy, but no disability. I've heard guys talk about having to go to Manila or Guam for VA. Although I saw something about a small clinic in Pattaya doing rate adjustments. But I'm not sure. I think Bumrungrad takes Tricare. There is plenty of active duty at the embassy. Check out my videos. I show the foreign insurance office at Bumrungrad. Thanks for watching

When in Bangkok I did go to the bomber Grant hospital for a issue with my prostate and walked in off the street and within two and a half hours I'd seen a oncologist specialist and they only charged me $80 after looking over all my paperwork that I had brought to them.

I can vouch for the crazy wait time here in Canada for ultra sound etc. Privatized health care seems to be considered evil up here so waiting for hours for an emergency is common and months for scans or meeting a specialist.
@EagerExpat

I get it. $100,000 bills in the US can be a little crazy. But, waiting 2 months to see a doctor can also be a real problem. It's nice to just walk in at Bumrungrad. Se a specialist within an hour or two.

Joe, ask your urologist about taking potassium citrate pills (Urocit). These alkalize your urine and tend to dissolve small stones and prevent new ones from forming.
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat Ай бұрын
I've took Urocit for 10 years. Maybe 2005 to 2015. I still formed stones. So I stopped. Ten years later without Citrate, I'm still a stone every one or two year guy. I'm not a fan of vitamins or supplements. I try to take lemon water. Most Urologists say that may help. You just have to be careful with your teeth. I drink it, then I brush

I suffer from kidney stones, have had stents in both kidneys several times. Removing that stent is not nice, like pulling sandpaper through somewhere which should never have that sort of thing. Good to know that you can be well looked after in Thailand. I've had Shockwave Lithotripsy a number of times but in the UK they don't put you under anesthetic for it.
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat Ай бұрын
Ya I've had so many procedures I mixed up Lipro and Ureteroscopy. I've had both. That they put you under and put a basket in there for the Ureteroscopy. It's a specialized surgery. Only one doctor in San Diego at my hospital did it. She was a 35 year old superstar type. They pull the stones out and place them in a small basket. Clean out both kidneys before you have a chance to pass them. She told me, she would remove them, or just give it a yank in 10 days. I did it myself, but that wasn't fun at all. I think the Ureteroscopy is a newer procedure. They do it one kidney at a time in Bangkok. I pressed my lady in California to do both kidneys at once. There is a small chance of kidney failure, so they like to do one at a time. My Bangkok guy said he likes to also do one at a time. Stones suck, but we could have bigger problems
@Hawks1980
@Hawks1980 Ай бұрын
Ah that’s the same as here in the UK. Ureteroscopy they put you under for here too, I had to have it a few weeks ago for the 3rd time. The smaller stones they try and break up with the lithotripsy with just some pain relief. They will only do one kidney at a time here too as I am waiting for a PCNL in my other kidney where they put a small tube in through your back to remove larger stones (I have a 23mm stone in my right kidney).
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat Ай бұрын
@@Hawks1980 My dad a 23 or 25mm. That was before Ureteroscopy. They hit it with the laser and you get to pass a bunch of pieces. Today they said I have three in one and one in the other. Hopefully, I'll pass them before they get much larger. Passing that 13mm took three weeks. Luckily in the US, they pass out the narcotics a little easier than most of the world. If I have kidney pain, I take a half a Vicodin and can get back to work. Usually I pass the stone in a day or two. The 13mm I was heading into surgery and passed it the night before. I doubt I'd do the double kidney cleanout again. One stent is bad enough. I had two. You know that feeling, that you have to pee and nothing comes out. Oh well, I guess other people have worse issues. Were still kicking. Best of luck

300 plus dollars for a first-class hospital care. Even without insurance, I'll take it.
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat Ай бұрын
I agree. The small stuff is affordable. The problem starts when you need surgery or larger care. I would at least look at a Thai policy to cover major expenses. The $100 visit a few times a year is fine out of pocket. Even with insurance, I still pay a $40 co-pay and $10 for medicine on that $100 total bill. It's the $50,000 surgery I want to be insured for. Rushing back to California isn't an option if I was in a bad car accident

Kidney stones suck. consider yourself lucky if you've only had one bout. I drink a half gallon of water a day. I always have. Still, maybe 10 bouts over the last 30 years. It's just my body chemistry. The same as my dad and uncles. Even today, the ultrasound showed four stones in my kidney. They have to come out at some point. I was cleaned out 2 years ago. I watch my diet and drink more water than most people. Again, consider yourself lucky if you only had one episode 30 years ago

Ya, I've did it all. First stone 30 years ago. Lemon water is suppose to help break them down. But, when you get a 13mm stuck, you can drink pure acid and it will still take 3 weeks to get that thing out. It's an issue once a year. A small one I can pass in hours. I'm kind of a pro at it. A large one takes some effort. Luckily that's only every 2 or 3 years. Plus, these days they have the laser and other operations. We all have to deal with something in life. I'm lucky if this is my main health problem at almost 58

It's usually considered the best, but there are other very nice private hospitals. My buddy was just in Bangkok Hospital. I was really impressed. Other people like Samitivej, Med Park, etc.. But, Bumrungrad is my hospital. Many of the doctors at the private hospitals also work a day every few weeks in a government hospital. It may not have a piano player in the lobby, but even basic health care is great in Thailand.

At your age you should do something most docs don’t consider and yet after you check around you’ll discover getting a “FULL BODY MRI” is the most PROactive thing you can do for your health care. It costs about a 1.000$usd and if a doc says yes it may be covered. It’s worth it no matter if it’s covered or not. . At bumregard. ,I’m in Bangkok now ,and I’m debating getting one here or in Vancouver Canada.. It’s critical to discovering deep seated problems and can easily save your life.PLEASE GET ONE. Eric idol ,Monty python, got one and they discovered pancreatic cancer and easy operation and he’s good. Normally if you have symptoms from that cancer, YOUR DEAD.

I do my blood work every year, like clockwork. Any irregularities like a tumor would hopefully show up in the blood. But, I agree it's not a bad thing to get a scan. I just did a video on my colonoscopy and heart scan. Plus, the extensive physical last year. I'll do that again in July. Good luck with the scan
