*Zerolene* - an engine oil made by the old Standard Oil Company. "Zero-lene flows freely at zero!" (Farenheit). 🙂 *Hewlett Bos.* was started in 1887 in Salt Lake City and the brothers sold all manner of teas, syrups, heck you name it provisions. The company existed over 70 years apparently! *Dietz* started in 1840; they closed their USA facilities in 1992 and the Dietz stuff is made in China now. You can still buy a No. 1 lantern to this day, except they converted it to electric like 100 years ago (same looking housing though). What a great mine! Hi, Tom and Julie. My two favorite Desert Rats have done it again. 😅 That really was in interest, mine. Lots of great old artifacts. That powder looked a bit touchy now, didn't it. Ok, well, thank you so much for taking me with you again. And i would like to wish you two a very happy holiday. Merry Christmas and a happy new year. So, I wonder if this mine is how you saw it the last time you were there. I am really impressed with all of the artifacts left behind. It must be in a very remote location. The miners cart with all of the dynamite boxes and other artifacts was definitely decorated by a previous explorer. It was nice of them to get all the artifacts off of the floor. It was definitely tuff to get inside the mine. That must be another reason all of the nice artifact's are still there. Merry Christmas!

@@eddie9903 Yes, it's fun to read the old newspapers that we find. We do use care around the old dynamite. We see quite a bit of it.

We see plenty of dynamite boxes which makes me wonder how often you run into actual dynamite sticks? I imagine you have to be careful when you're walking over or going through a pile of artifacts because you don't know what could be underneath
@TomandJulieMineExploring12 күн бұрын
Hi Christopher. We see sticks of dynamite regularly. The box in this video had about 20 sticks in it. Most of it is so old and wet that I'm not sure it is still viable. Still, it's good to be cautious. Thanks for watching and commenting!👍😊

Why no more views of the drive in through the beautiful desert scenery and surface artifacts. Happy new year from a very very wet Highlands of Scotland despite it being made for rain!

@@philipdobson8941 Hi. Philip. It depends on the mine whether I show the outside or not. This one has too many artifacts to give away its location. Hope you stay dry. Happy New Year!👍🎆

Tom did the miners have to leave the mine for each blast?
@TomandJulieMineExploring12 күн бұрын
Hi Bruce. I don't think they would have to necessarily leave the mine, but they would let it ventilate for a period of time after blasting to clear the nitro glycerin fumes, which caused terrible headaches. Thanks for the comment!👍😊

I know you have been doing this for. a long time, but how do you determine BEFORE you go on the parts of the track where most of the floor below it missing that it is actually safe to do so?
@TomandJulieMineExploring10 күн бұрын
Hi Al. You have to use your best judgment in real time. The bottom line is that it is a dangerous hobby that we realize and accept before we ever go into a mine. Thanks for the comment!👍😊

What is a glycerin headache?😮
@TomandJulieMineExploring7 күн бұрын
Hi Eddie. The nitro glycerin in dynamite can cause terrible headaches from breathing the fumes after a blast in the mine. They would ventilate the mine after blasting to remove the fumes. Merry Christmas!🎄

Miner's primary used air to run the drills and water was a second use Tom likes to think they ran water guns lol. Be safe my friends ❤
@TomandJulieMineExploring12 күн бұрын
Hi Jacques. The drills are pneumatically powered and also used water to cool the bit, keep the dust down, and provide lubrication for the drilling process. The drill bits have a hole running through them all the way to the tip where the water shoots out into the bore hole. Older bits without water holes were called widow makers because of the numerous health problems the miners endured from breathing in all the dust created by the drilling. You didn't really think that I thought they were using "water guns" did you? That's just silly. Thanks for the comment!👍
