Fk! Wish I'd known this trick sooner! I spent from the ages of about 10 years old to late 20's splitting wood either for home or as a job and would have been really handy back then! 😂

Hi Thoren: I was looking for videos to help me improve accuracy when splitting. Found nothing, so you might consider this. Watched some of your videos, and you go a great job. WRT splitting tips. I split A LOT of wood, and use most of the approaches you recommend. However, there is a much better solution to what you recommend here. Buy a pair of adjustable cord hooks (1/4 inch) and a 1/4 inch section of bungee cord. Works exactly the same way, but if you "miss" with a swing on the edges no real issue as there is no metal. I have a large splitting block made from 4x6s so I do multiple rounds at a time. I use a 10 foot cord so no matter what the rounds' diameter is the cord will connect. Finally, you seem to analyze things well. I personally think your block it too high. Every vertical inch adds more speed, so lower that thing. I built a block that uses 4x6 as the base, is about 4x4 feet and has a replaceable OSB top. I can load 6 or 7 rounds, surround them with the cord, and split away. Very efficient imho. You have a good platform, and seem to think things out pretty well. Consider this. HTH.

My favorite splitting tool is my gas powered log splitter. Getting too old to swing an axe plus doo all the other steps in firewood harvesting.

Just have to be careful and not split the rubber. I gave this idea up after the 3rd rubber bungie cord split. But it does keep you from chasing your split pieces.
@markricketts69577 ай бұрын
I just hit the log so the smaller split piece flies onto the stack neat and tidy whilst the main part stays on the chopping block to be hit again.

the chain lets you do larger rounds, and adjust the tension of the strap.

Moving strap or tarp strap??? My guy thats called a bungee cord 😂
@scottie3285 күн бұрын
Bungee cord is elastic and would stretch too much to secure tight like that. The black strap he's used appears to be solid rubber so only a little 'give' to it. Can try with a bungee but maybe not get quite the same effect.

This seems like a really fucking cool idea, until you see one of the after videos where someone misses, hits the chain, and the axe bounces and hits them, and there's blood everywhere. This is a fucking horrible idea, never swing an axe at a metal object, including a chain. Do not, ever, do this.
@scottie3285 күн бұрын
Maybe he should have added, if you can't hit a log, you really shouldn't be swinging an axe at all 😂 The takeaway from that injury is that they need more practice, so maybe avoid chains until they get the hang of what they're doing 😮
