Sasha (my uncle) is the only one on this world who did it! There are some other recordings over there but no one plays it in the original key (which is easier). And musically he just dominates it! It took him decades to do this. It was his life project and we are so happy he could accomplish this before his passing away 🙏🏻

The shifting is really hard to get accurately. The double stops are really quick so it’s hard for it to be in tune. The chords are easy to sound scratchy, there’s a lot of really difficult techniques, etc. this guy did a really good job lol

Every time a cello emulating the violin just makes it sound incredibly bad, sounding worse than the worst of violinists. I genuinely wonder do they not know this? What’s the point of playing a hard piece when it sounds like this, i.e. horrendous? What are you cellists trying to prove, that you play Ysaye better than violinists? Feel superior to them?

There are some good cello works in your own repertoire, just play those please. My ears feel violated from listening to the cat dying sound of the high notes on the cello. Same thing applies to the violin trying to emulate the piano, it just shows every possible weakness of the instrument, it’s awkward and should be discouraged.

Sorry that your ears got violated, they must be precious 🤷🏻‍♂️ Trust me, we, cellists, play 99,99999 % of our own repertoire, but why not to challenge ourselves from time to time? And please show some respect for someone that created heavenly music when he was still alive. Tells a lot of who you actually are.

And what do you mean it shows who I am, I’m not against any particular cellist, but all of them, who doesn’t know any better about how an instrument has its own limit and emulating and most transcription from other instruments are simply laughable and disastrous.

@@IliaLaporevcellist Human nature never seems to change... when the guitarist Yamashita first performed his guitar-world breaking transcriptions (Beethoven violin concerto, Mussorgsky's, Pictured at an Exhibition, Dvorak's New World Symphony, et al) many guitarists took offense and poo-poohed his work on any and all grounds. But the fact remains that he lifted that instrument onto a new plane of possible achievement. Your uncle seems to have done something similar. And some cellists and aficionados are offended by this-he has shattered what they think they know about the instrument. One sees this again and again and in all fields.

The piece is a master work in polyphony, it should be approached like Bach not like a virtuoso piece.
