The San Jose Sharks officially claimed the worst record in the NHL with 2 games left to go and now have the best odds to land Macklin Celebrini. That and more in today's NHL hockey video!

@@Sir_Sydney_live You're forgetting Musty and Cagnoni. Musty led the OHL in points per game with 1.92 over 53 games. That's 131 points in a 68 game season. Cagnoni was the first defenceman with 90+ points in the WHL since 1993. But yeah, other than those 4 it's not too good. Still, 4 really good prospects and Celebrini would make it even better.

Yup, Sharks have drafted well. Player development is still an issue though. Barracuda have been terrible. When a prospect like Gushchin or Thompson is called up, they’re thrown into the fire. As a LOONNGGG time Sharks fan, I don't think they are going to return to contention any time soon, but nor are they going to mismanage the assets, per se. They have plenty of cap room so they might be able to gather picks by facilitating some trades, but they don't have any retention slots left for the next few years (used up on Burns, Hertl, and EK65). How many years of misery to the Oilers have to go through before they became contenders? Will probably be a similar length for the Sharks.

Great point. Here in Pittsburgh, get plenty of people talking about "just rebuild" as if that is some guarantee. Edmonton is now the oldest team in the league. I remember when they would put out the "Top 10 under 25" lists and 6 of them were Oilers. Yakupov, Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, Sam Gagner, Ales Hemsky..... all they did for 15 years was draft well and get nothing out of it. And, they still have won exactly nothing. For Sharks fans, I hope they don't rush things too much. Learn from Edmonton's mistakes. Get some of those young guys into the lineup and try to put together some sort of competitive team around them to help them grow instead of counting on them to figure it out on their own like Edmonton did.

Not mentioned by anyone also is that they have 430+ man games lost to injury, second to only Vegas who if you factor out Lehner, they would easily be ahead of by about 50 (also they took on an injured Hertl). The combined AAV of all currently injured players is 32.1 mil, their current roster is 33.8 mil. Also on the prospect side, Gushchin, Bystedt, Mukhamudullin, Cardwell, Edstrom, and (already in the NHL) Thrun are guys to look out for who are right on the cusp of the NHL

SJ has done an excellent job at getting rid of big contracts, tearing it all down, and acquiring prospects. The verdict is still out on whether or not they can develop those prospects into core players. Quinn is an imposter of a head coach, so I’m leaning towards NO. The rebuild will be stalled until they can prove these prospects are developing in the system and getting opportunities in the NHL.
