Knopfler is the king. I enjoy listening to so many guitarists, but none of them come close to the Sultan of Swing.
@raulenriquemoya62925 ай бұрын
Whilst you may feel (as I do) that MK “is the king”, Mark is listed in Rolling Stones as the 96th most greatest guitarist in history, and Carlos Santana stands at 11th.

What makes you think shredding solos aren't melodic? Tornado of Souls is a very fast solo but it is extremely melodic.

Depends on the shredder. Paul Gilbert in Last Rock & Roll Star KILLS and that thing is nothing but melody.

It’s actually the perfect acoustic solo. A lot of slides and subtle hammer-ons…just gotta get that vibrato going! Nice work.

Just a shy too agressive picking. Even I understand its kinda necessery to make it sound. Stiil like it, thank you.

As a long time Dire Straits fan I love this. Mark Knopfler and Dave Gilmour are my all time favorite guitarrists. Tied. Can't decide which is "better". Neither. Both are masters of "less is more".

It's an iconic guitar part for sure. A great song from a great band. Vive le 70s. Vive le Knopfler.

Just imagine, Knopfler's father detested the fact that his son Mark wanted to play guitar seriously. He wanted him to be an accountant; true story. And apparently, when Mark was starting up his band, they were looking for a singer because he thought he couldn't sing. He gave it a try and what a success !!!

He wrote the original on an acoustic, or resonator. It was a big metal guitar with some cool art work on it. I think the brand is National Guitars, or something like that? Great job. I can’t make it sound that good on an acoustic. Every tone was flawless.🎸

Whenever I hear solos like these, it makes me think, were they thinking of music theory like oh this song is in this key which means I play around these certain notes with certain exceptions. Or did they just play with feel and improvisation

I'm not trying ro be negative, but it hit me that something is missing from this interpretation. Then I realised that what's missing is "swing". This is a fine interpretation, but it just made me appreciate the original version more. Despite the title, I never noticed before how much swing it has.
