I've been in kitchens my entire adult life. Managed hotels, kitchens, worked in many restaurants. I have only ever seen a kitchen overly dirty a handful of times. And that is becuase after I started I would make fucking sure I cleaned. Made my guys and girls clean, had health and sanitation inspections, scrubbed floors, labeled, dated, rotated. Know why? So I would never have Gordon to tell me to fuck off.

the inspectors give people more chances, thinking that they'll turn things around. so they do, for a little bit, the inspectors come in again, things look good, and then things go downhill again. it happens a lot with chinese restaurants too.

Mandygears it happens alot with most Chinese restaurants I worked in. I asked to clean it but they just say they'll do it, and it never gets done I called the health inspector and everyone lost their jobs

tbh I think a lot of the US version is staged. AFAIK Fox specifically asked him to make the US version extra dramatic, hence the dramatic music and cartoon sound effects and dramatic confrontations and literally every restaurant he goes to being The Worst Restaurant Ever. Come to think of it it seems like an interesting case study in cultural differences between the US and UK, or at least in what we want from our media.
