Regarding supernovas being thought of in a day, I think Oda took characters he already had planned out, and just altered their backstories to be supernovas. Like i think he always planned Kaido to have a Dinosaur officer, he just changed it so such officer would be introduced as rising pirate and then join up with Kaido. I think thats what he did for the supernovas besides Law and Kidd. Bonney was already set to be some important character. Since she can change ages, he did that to introduce her as a pirate, but her characterr itself was planned out. Urouge beat a commnader we never really see, its almost like there were only 3 sweet commanders and he inserted a 4th one to tie in Urouge better. The more you look at it, it becomes easier to see the stuff he shifted to inlcude supernovas.

Meh. Those "plot armor" excuses and jokes are getting old and tiring... EDIT : The worst thing right here is, seconds before saying Luffy had plot armor he admits (idk if he realized) that Kid got it too. And further ahead, he adds Oda said in an SBS that he planned big things for Kid. Which reinforces that plot armor again. In many works, characters have plot armor as long as they serve....the plot (duh). Hence heroes/protagonist have most of it. That's common knowledge. This has never been an issue until Luffy WON against Katakuri, but these guys seem so butthurt cos their favorite (cool, badass and emo) vilain got his ass handed back to him at the end (his DF contrarily to what he claimed wasn't that better in the end). He didn't choose to lose. He only chose the side he was going to fall onto. But some fanatics can't get over those FACTS. And since then, they feel the need to bring those silly and tiring "plot armor" excuses.

I think Sawyer was honestly joking but you are right. Plot armor goes both ways and works for both the Protagonist and Antagonist. Most just acknowledge the moments it works for the heroes favor to devalue their accomplishments or feats since it's more easier to spot. Plot armor is not a bad thing it's an inevitable writing tool for your characters to stay alive in a *story* , as the author you don't want them to die. What matters is the execution of it.

Another possibility for the sea stone thing: The quantity of sea stone may change the level of the effect. If it's just the small bit used for handcuffs, you can move around all right. See: pretty much every case where someone has been handcuffed with sea stone. If it's the larger quantity used to make big bars, it drains physical strength as well. See: whenever Luffy has grabbed sea stone prison bars (like Alabasta or Dressrosa).

I think this seastone adapting makes sense too. If we go back to Doflamingo, for example, on Fujitora's ship, they didn't just cuff him with seastone - they chained him from all corners of the ship. And when he delivers that "Game of Thrones" speech, he's still pulling at the ship and scaring the Marines (except Tsuru of course).

Luffy and Kid are able to walk around and stuff when handcuffed, as are other DF users, most likely because the hand cuffs are much smaller than the bars in a cage, so the energy would likely would be a lot less. Seastone and seawater also doesn't negate devil fruit powers, they just drain energy. That's why Luffy was still rubber underwater in Arlong Park. However active abilities like logia forms, attacks, etc. will not work.

A more concentrated seastone would be those jails and those zap them of nearly all strength. Where as small cuffs and Smokers pole tip are only able to stop there powers and some strength.

Mugiwara Sanji-San Yes in my honest opinion the supernova have far superior designs than Luffy. I’d say for a main character his is probably the weakest when he’s not in gear 4. Oda says the supernova were an afterthought (or something similar to that) yet it looks like he put a lot of thought into designing them. If you think differently that’s fine. Not like I’m trying to convince you otherwise.

10:00 I think it has more to do with how much sea prism stone is in the bars/cuffs ... Bars are designed to withstand attack from potentially many people where as cuffs only need to be strong enough to restrain a single person... its also no good if they cant move... in the filler "Rainbow Mist" Robin touches a pure sea prism stone found in a chest and collapses... I think it is purity/density like with many other mineral materials

Interesting points as always! Remember when Luffy fought the Kraken as well he was slightly weakened vs. the battle with Arlong when his head was pulled above water... he commended on his energy being too low to free himself.

The handcuffs could also be made with a lesser concentration of seastone while the bars are made of only seastone. That way they would still be unable to use their devil fruit and be physically weakened but unlike touching the bars they won't just collapse.

I've noticed no one seems to be mentioning how Luffy now can lift multiple ton stones wearing the sea prism stone handcuffs when just being touched be it before made him so drained he could hardly muster the strength to speak or stand, Kid as well but this is a huge change

Luffy and Kidd building up their tolerance to the sea stone cuffs is similar to when Superman exposed himself to Kryptonite to reduce the effects it has on him. It weakened him but it was no longer completely debilitating.

Well plotwise the resistance to baseform is usefull if you consider the yami yami no mi of Blackbeard and luffy vs Teach at the end of the series happening. Having strenght left without having the devil fruit powers has to come from somewhere, and this is that training arc.

I like Luffy and Kidd's small competition. Phisically they seem equal, i think that's what Oda wanted to showcase. (even though Kidd only has one arm right now, so Kidd can even be a little bit stronger). Also seeing Caribou back is cool. His devil fruit might end up being useful to get out of there. The Goemon reference was so good, and he also uses a sickle. I hope it's a kusarigama. We could use some cool looking samurai.

The seastone effect on Luffy may just rely on the amount that is touching him. Maybe the bars were 100% seastone and the handcuffs just have a small percent of seastone mixed in.

I think the blocks are what's going to the port for export. The World Government has to get their seastone in some way right? And I really doubt the theory of Blackbeard getting a third devil fruit, every someone has spoken about him and his body it has been in terms of "double", not "triple". First with Luffy and Zoro in Jaya (calling him "them"), then with Ace (claiming he's lived twice as any other man and that he feels double the pain), and last with Marco during Marineford (that he has a weird body).

High theory: adding onto your theory, moriah shows up to get revenge on Kaido, something that has been foreshadowed for a long long time ever since he mentioned his sad past. Does Blackbeard take the risk and follow suit? Does he accompany moriah and just fuck shit up and put himself at risk but taking focus off of other big names on the sea? Most likely not, which means moriah might just see a massive boost with kaido shadow.

I love how Oda said we’re 80% done. Like there’s sooooo much that still needs to happened. Oda is probably gonna have to off screen a lot of events. Hopefully he doesn’t but it’s the only way to keep the story going
