This is a huge spoiler if u consider anime or manga. In anime, this reveal happened at Ep 413, far far later. Here they revealed it too soon. One of the biggest changes made in LA Another big change is Usopp and Kaya Kiss. I guess Netflix really wanted a love story. In anime or manga, it was never shown and still was being speculated if they are romantically involved or not. Here they confirmed first time. Since writer Oda passed this, it is official now. Actually in anime garp only find luffy after luffy already become a big shot also because luffy already declare war against world government. And garp not beat up luffy like in live action. Garp in anime is a funny strong character. You can say he really just like luffy. Garp never hunt luffy like in live action.

A detail you may have missed is the fact that the well Zoro came out of was right in front of the manor. He walked the wrong way all the way to Luffy because he is REALLY bad with directions, like you could point him the way and he'd still get lost.

Fun detail that you guys wouldn't get since you aren't familiar with the source material, the music that plays when the crew sets out on the Going Merry is an orchestral arrangement of the opening theme from the anime, "We Are!" They held back playing the theme throughout the show until this moment, and it's fantastic.

I don't know why people say they didn't feel any emotion with Zoro's backstory. It made me cry and I felt it! As some have said, child actors certainly have problems portraying such an emotional scene, but they did it well. I think only one part is a pity: In the anime Kuina's father says, after the scene with the question about the sword; I entrust you with Kuina's sword and her dreams, whereupon Zoro starts crying. That was a very emotional part, more emotional than 'then you have to fulfill the promise', but that's complaining on a high level.

Hmmm that moment you described sounds so beautiful - it is a bit of a shame they changed that, thinking about it. It likely was changed to add fuel to why Zoro feels compelled to become the best...

I think the reason why Zoro’s flashback doesn’t really work with many people is because, as far as the flashbacks in One Piece go, this one is very basic. You don’t really learn much about Zoro at all other than his motivation for being the world’s greatest swordsmen. But why was he so passionate about swordfighting in the first place? What motivated him to be so fanatic even as a kid? I don’t know if they ever elaborated on it in the manga or anime (I never got far enough in the story to find out), but his flashback has always been the weakest to me.

@@jarosbodytko6462 I follow the anime to this day and am manga current. So I can tell you that there is no more to his backstory. I think I can disclose this here, in the manga he called himself "Doujo (hope that's spelled right XD) destroyer and/or said that he defeated all the surrounding masters in these. So when he came to Kuina's, he was already really strong. However, Kuina defeated him immediately and because he lost he had to stay there and train. He challenged Kuina 2000 times and lost. Then the 20001 fight was the one where they used real swords. Kuina, in the manga, was told shortly before that she could not become the strongest - by her own father. That's why in the live action she says to Zoro that a woman can't defeat a man. I think there is a flashback to Zoro's childhood after episode 1000, but it has nothing to do with any revelation.

I know Sanji got more backstory which is supposedly even more tragic than starving from hunger, but Zoro really got the short end with his story. As much a badass that he is, he's probably the most one-dimensional main character in the show.

There is a neat detail that Zoro always puts the white sword that belonged to Kuina in his mouth and draws it last when it is time to get serious - because this way no matter what even if he loses his arms - the last sword he will lose will be hers... When he loses his head.

Turning the Syrup Village arc into an actual horror movie was probably the greatest adaptation choice they made in this run. A lot of the choices were good, a couple of them I felt were a little iffy, but still functional, but this total conversion does so much work, it's incredible. 3 and 4 might be my favorite episodes of season 1.

​@@parthachem83Sometimes it does, I've seen reactors comment on it before: If people hype a certain episode, they get the reactor's expectations up, but if the reactor doesn't feel equally excited as everyone else about it, they experience the episode as less impressive than they would have if their expectations hadn't been set so high beforehand. Personally, I think reactions are usually better when the reactor is surprised by the content/quality of an episode and isn't going into it with high expectations.

Did you know that Nami with the stick and Zoro with the swords are not stunt doubles? Mackenyu Arata (Zoro) has worked with multiple swords for other shows in the past, so he has some real skills. The same goes for Nami (Emily Rudd) who has a black belt in karate as well as bojustsu training and I think you can see that it really makes a big difference because you can film differently with more authenticity 😍😍

Luffy loved most by all his crew..i remember an arc story when he soo thin and fight Sanji. when Sanji want to leave him and go with his new companion..Luffy wait Sanji soo long that he never eat food and soo thin..when Sanji came back many many month later, he crying seeing his captain in that condition...when Sanji show him food that soo cold and stale, Luffy keep eating it..showing how much he want Sanji back to the Straw Hat Crew...🥺

what is so so great about OPLA is the rework of everything with Kuro. Him being such an early villain and back when Oda (the manga creator) was getting his footing so he ended up a very one note villain with a generic battle etc. In this they reframed him as a creepy slasher villain. such a great glow up of the old material

If you go back and watch the episode when they steal the safe from Capt. Ax-hand Morgan, then Nami opens it, you see a rolled up wanted poster with the name of Kuro. My guess is that Ax-hand and Kuro were possibly working together.

I've been a long time fan but ngl Zoro & Kuina's backstory still had me on chokehold, I shed tears as always. 😭 I can't almost believe how well both child actors executed their fight. I swear Kuina's death would've haunted me as a child like that Bridge to Terabithia movie. OPLA Kuina made me wish she didn't die. I love love love your reactions. 29:30 Garp wasn't even introduced this early on in the manga/anime. The showrunners had to try really hard to persuade Oda to do so. And it was precisely for that reason, they wanted an overarching plot, rather than just a "villain of the week" kind of show. In the anime, there isn't really much of an overarching plotline, at least early on, but it's also a bit slower paced. For instance it took I think 9 episodes (20-ish m ins each) to get thru the Usopp/Kuro arc.

Kuina just dying from an accident (she fell down some stairs) may be anticlimactic but it makes it clear that this isn't some revenge story and there wasn't any foul play, life was just unfair. I think that was a good decision by Oda even though it would have been interesting if Kuina was still around and would be Zoros final opponent instead of Hawkeyes.

Wait til ya'll get to episodes 7 and 8, Sheeeeeeesh! lol! i'm also new with "One Piece" but after watching Season one of the Live action, i went straight to watching season 1 of the anime lol and yup i am hooked!! this adaptation is by far the best anime live action adaptation of all time and this what happens when the writers, producers and director have real love for the source material when they are real fans and understand the heart of the story and characters, this show has made a great example that anime can be adapted to live action well if there's real love for the original story/project.

They never stated it in the live action, but in the original, they stated that Kuina died from tripping and falling down the stairs. Intentionally tragic and pointless death. No glory, no heroism, no fulfillment. She was just cruelly ripped away by random chance before she ever got a chance to hold up her end of the promise. That's why Zoro is so dedicated to becoming the greatest Swordsman in the world: Kuina didn't fail to fulfill her promise, she never even got the chance to try, so he HAS to succeed, or else their promise truly meant nothing.

i love luffy in that scene where he tells coby he will go save his friends and he better not sty to stop him. how could coby even suggest that he wants to arrest luffy. him and what army? all of his back up is knocked out. it seems more like he was on the brink of going with him, that he did want to help but couldnt bring himself to follow luffy on his own. and he was hoping his hero would just pull him along saying something like you know i will not go with you but you can come with me. 💞 that seems more believable then thinking luffy would just go along with being arrested. and seeing what zoro just did. 😮

I wish they didn’t cut out Kuro’s crew. In the anime & manga, Kuro had an entire pirate ship & a rather important character even more important than the 2 butlers of his. His name was Jango, & he was a hypnotist designed after Steven Tyler but with a mushroom growing from his chin, lol. He’s a fan favorite character, & even has character development later on in the series. I wonder if they’ll just write him out of the show entirely. It’s an unfortunate side effect of only having 8 episodes.
