I recommend you to read one piece and not watch the anime. The manga is 1091 chapters and the anime is 1074 episodes. Which means it has bad phasing and tons of fillers. The Manga is the best thing out there while the anime is a huge disappointment except for some great highlights.

That is the beauty of Oda's vision for the One Piece live action. He said himself that this was for the people who don't have the time to read the manga or watch the anime. This is a gem for One Piece fans old and new, and as a long time One Piece fan I'm glad to see both mediums together and enjoy the live adaptation that broke the curse.

I was always of the opinion that live action adaptation were pointless. How could they meaningfully diverge from the anime without becoming a worse version? One Piece changed my mind. This series has been going for 30 years. The author and story is different now. This adaptation allows them to rewrite and condense this massive story into its most important elements.

Love how they fell in love with Zoro so fast without even seeing him go all out yet. This is by far the best live action adaptation so far. And to do it in episodes with the very creator saying what changes are allowed and what’s not to keep it as pure as can be. I have tears seeing this and the love that went into it. And it turned out amazing. God if only we got this with the cowboy bebop live action. I would have partied in the street.

I love how the actor who plays Luffy so well that people who have never seen the anime can pick up on how happy and go lucky he is in the anime by the real life actors acting. Just goes to show how good the live action really is.

The show has done an amazing job of translating the feel of the manga and anime to live action. Jeff Ward's portrayal of Buggy is awesome and Inaki Godoy so embodies Luffy. The people working on this are all huge fans of the manga, and Emily Rudd who plays Nami cut and dyed her hair to look like Nami once she heard this show was being made because she wanted the role so badly. She's a huge weeb. Also the name of the Marine is Vice Admiral Garp, he mentioned his name when he answered the transponder snail.

Thank you for watching it!!! I've seen the anime more times than I'll like to admit in the past 15 years?!?... (when I started watching it) I'm 3 episodes in and I think it is amazing! The anime and manga currently in the 1000's so it's obviously not going to be a 1:1 adaptation. So far it has kept the tone, heart and soul of the source material. Seen someone watching it without manga or anime reference is just great as I was not sure if I was just biased from excitement and the cast been so nice in/out the series.

Great reaction, you guys! Thanks so much for enjoying this version of my absolute favourite anime series of all time! Please don't feel badly about making this adaptation your first experience of "One Piece". From what I've seen of the Netflix series so far, it's doing justice to the manga and anime. Despite the various alterations to the storyline, it's staying very true to the spirit of Oda-sensei's story, and his characters. Although, knowing what's coming, I can't help but wonder how they're going to depict all that wild and crazy stuff in live action. Nami's outfit hasn't been altered. What you see is her original style of dress, pretty much exactly as it appeared in the opening of the manga and anime. She doesn't switch to the bikini top until much later in her career. Looking forward to the next with bated breath!

I’ve been a huge fan of One Piece for years, been reading weekly as Oda drops chapters for years and I’ve been optimistic about this since I heard about who was in charge and that Oda was involved, so I Binged the live action to show support and can say I genuinely enjoyed every episode, it’s different from the manga and anime but very faithful at the same time and a great new way for people to get involved and invested in this amazing/legendary story.

I think for a new fan, the twists and turns and being introduce to the characters first hand is a really nice experience. But for one piece fans the nostalgia of getting experience their firsthand introduction to the world of one piece once more in a different take and getting all the hints and Easter eggs the production has scattered around the show is also a great experience .

Whoa I didn't expected you guys to do it, the anime is amazing, the only bad part is the pacing, they try to not get too close of the manga material so its kinda slow, the show did a good job in mixing everything in a good pace! Yeah I think this is the best show on Netflix right now. And is faithful to the One Piece manga/anime (the Creator of the One Piece had to approve everything, so you know this is going to be good.) All of the outfits, including Nami’s and everybody else’s their outfits are all canon and things they wore in the story. Also, this show has a higher budget than game of thrones per episode. Best Netflix show of this year

This is what I wanted to see: New people going into this series and reacting to it! One Piece is the number 1 manga in the world and the love and time and quality that has gone into this show reflects that. I hope the two of you enjoy this series because as a fan of the story for nearly 10 years now, I loved this. I did the same thing, I just watched the whole season today in one sitting, never seeing it in any other media. I think that gives the viewer a more open mind because I'm not worried about trivial details like a voice, hair, clothes, are which storylines they follow or omit. Having said that, I really did enjoy the story, action scenes, character designs, and pacing. I'll def be tuning in for season 2 and beyond!

Honestly I think this is probably the best way to get people into the series. As much as I love the anime it takes a long time to really wrap most people in. It's good from the get-go, but slow paced and the early episodes lack a lot of what makes it so good later on. I am really looking forward to not having to tell people to give it a chance up until episode 45 because that's when it REALLY gets good. I don't think this is as good in the best moments as the equivalent anime/manga parts, but it's good enough to get people interested for sure.

This live action is so well done! They changed a lot of things, it's sped up a lot and by no means a scene-by-scene adaptation, but they stayed very true to the SPIRIT of the original work. It also wasn't too speedy - a lot of the story was simplified to allow for character moments that make One Piece what it is. That's how you do an adaptation! They did a phenomenal job!

This might be controversial to some, but I think I had more fun and enjoyment from these episodes than start of anime episodes the story belong to. Maybe seeing the characters I love interacting in another way makes it more fun but frankly uptil 2 episodes I am having a blast. BTW its also more adult version of One piece.

It's not that controversial. The manga/anime started when Oda was still a brand new writer and artist. It's only natural that after so many years he can come up with a better way to start the story without losing any of the main bits.

I had doubts after the Cowboy Bebop remake, but having Ian McShane alone as the narrator was a huge plus. Also, Luffy’s actor being a fan of Oda’s work is also a massive step in the right direction.

I marathoned the entire show in one go. As a manga reader I can tell, the spirit of One Piece is adapted beautifully. This show was amazing. I highly recommend you check out the Anime one day, it is really good. Matt Owens, the Producer, is a huge One Piece fan, so he was just as dedicated to being as true to the original story as possible as the rest of us. And this shows, cuz you can see the love and dedication that was given to this show. Once you decide to actually watch the Anime, pay attention to the similarities.

I started the anime a couple months ago, and 500 episodes in it is soooooooo good. The stories are so amazing Luffy is King!! This adaptation is soo good it captures the ambience so well.
