It's also extremely bizarre that anyone would "predict" the media's caricature of Trump's policies 15+ years in advance. In fairness, some fictional content is actively political or was made for political reasons. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, for example, was created because the director was upset by the fact that the news would often neglect darker, real world stories. So he advertised the film to be based on a true story to make people see the kind of stuff that the news wouldn’t tell people. Third Cinema was an entire film movement dedicated to using films as a form of political activism in developing countries, so it’s a bit of a generalization to say that fiction and politics are always separated. Though, of course, this doesn’t mean that every single fictional story has some latent political messaging to it, especially not for the very specific political landscape that the US is currently in.

Heck, depending on how this turns out and the scale of it, I could see there being grounds for a lawsuit for intentionally sabotaging the IP. I guarantee Oda isn't paying these people to insert their personal politics into One Piece. Yes, I do think this person should be fired for endangering the project. They're putting the rest of the team at risk, and Oda should definitely consider pulling the IP from them and letting someone else handle it if they aren't going to do right by him.

If anything, One Piece overall is the exact opposite of what they're saying. They want government run healthcare for example, and it seems to me the Drum Island arc shows exactly what can and usually does happen with government run healthcare ( and the FEMA news about relief workers avoid houses with certain presidential signs in from of them shows it expands to government run anything). Best thing to do is leave US politics out of anime, their localizations and/or various adaptations. If we want on the nose political takes, we'll watch the news, not the entertainment we use as an escape from that nonsense.

Like, Oda himself said he based it off of a cool looking rock called a Drum Rock, and that's probably as far as he got. I don't know if Oda knows that adding a P to the end and replacing the D with a T will make it Trump, like you might know a word in Japanese like Toilet, which is Toire, but do you know what letters you need to change and turn around to make a reference to a politician in Japan? No! Sneaky references in the english language can only really be caught by people familiar with the language. Like, if I made an ice cream boxer called Rocky Road I doubt that many non-english speakers would understand that it's a reference to the boxer Rocky and a reference to an ice cream flavor. This writer is jumping through non-existent hoops and trying to create this story that Oda actually hates Trump because his character Drum shares three letters with Trump.

These people clearly don’t understand one piece. People love to say that this show is anti-cop. in reality there are many good “police officers” in the Marines. The show is definitely anti-one world government with a soul leader, but it is not anti-capitalism or anti-establishment in the way that many think it is. If you really watch the show it’s pretty obvious that the show doesn’t see it the same way as many leftist Americans do. The show is basically telling you that there’s bad eggs in every bunch. There are good and bad people in the Navy and with pirates. It frustrates me that leftist have tried to take this show and act as if it’s on their side. Luffy doesn’t dismantle the government on every island that he goes to. He only takes down governments when they are literally killing their people. But he has no problem with monarchs and kings as long as they’re good people. The show is basically telling people to live and let live. The only thing it has to say about the world is that killing and enslaving people is bad. Edit: I agree with the replies that I’ve gotten. I do think the show has darker themes than what people are saying in their replies. But I agree that from Luffys perspective it’s about freedom, protecting and living with his friends. I was more talking about the overarching world of one piece. Thanks for the replies.

Oda was part of the casting crew actually, most of the choices if not all were with his input, also Nojiko is black in the manga, you can tell by how Oda draws her lips. Also, the guy that played Lucky Roux in the live action was an excellent choice, he killed it on that role.
@1UpEXP14 күн бұрын
@imatiu Okay, "she's blackcoded cus of her lips" is a take that manages to outstretch the one in the video. Like what? Literally look at the wiki and tell me where you see such a black girl in the manga and anime. I had to just to be sure I wasn't Mandela Effecting. And not disrespecting the performance of Lucky, why that casting choice in the first place? Why commit a deed that would be called racist if it were the other way around? Why not keep the design of the characters more faithful to the manga (And don't say that Oda wanted this. You know damn well that he obviously compromised on this)? Don't sit here knowing damn well that for example trying to pass off Static Shock as a blonde white guy, right down to calling him "Vergil Hawkins" wouldn't sit right with you.
@imatiu14 күн бұрын
@@1UpEXP Oda always has draw black characters with big lips, Usopp being one clear example, and yes Usopp is black, Oda has already said he would be from South Africa if he lived in our world. Mr 1 is black, I think we can calmly agree on that? Right? Miss Monday is also Black. And in the manga, due to how manga coloring and how Oda draws, all these characters have the same skin tone, because drawing skin tones in manga is complicated with some art styles, like Oda's. Also I honestly would have no issues with a white Static, would have to be something like Eminem though, because a White kid with a healthy family unit living and spending time with guys from the hood like static does is a bit too unrealistic. White kids on that situation have family issues up the wazoo most of the time, like Richie in the animated show.
@1UpEXP14 күн бұрын
@@imatiu Okay, I was referring specifically to Nojiko in asking "where do you see such a black girl". I even tried limiting the criteria to the source material, the anime and manga just so that you couldn't point to the Live Action one, only to find that it's mb for not limiting the criteria even more. It gave you the opportunity to set up these strawmen that I ain't even fighting you on. Except for the whole lips topic, where even with the examples provided, it's still a crazy stretch especially comparing Nojiko to the others, to say that she's black. And okay, it's seems you're chill with White Static I give you that, but it doesn't change the problem of hypocrisy I'm trying emphasize here that if such an event were to happen, the same people mad at the people mad at the raceswapping would ironically be mad at White Static because of his colour of skin which if you don't get it, now would make the hypocrisy problem worse since the same people supporting and implementing the racechanging when they're the one doing it flip out when they're the ones not doing it and have no shame doubling down on being the hypocritical ones. Literally if there were no hypocrisy and thus no people to be mad at the hypocrisy, raceswapping coming from either side would be a non issue. Too bad that's not really the world we live in.
@imatiu14 күн бұрын
@@1UpEXP What do you even mean by stretch? There is literally no reason to think Nojiko isn't black, I mean you could say she looks light skinned in the anime but in the anime her tone is different from the skin tone of any light skinned character looking more blueish than anything else. You could say that she doesn't look black on the digital colored manga, but Usopp is as white as Sanji on that one so that is kinda useless. I mean, I can think of one reason for thinking she isn't black, despite everything from Oda's artstyle, to picking a black actress to commenting on the possible nationality of characters supporting that she is. But that one is racist as all hell so I consider it pretty much worthless. So according to you, why is she not black? Because I seriously can't find an argument that supports her not being black that doesn't fall flat.

Yeah, because they think like children, they assume all good guys in anything ever (and most bad guys if they're hot and misunderstood) would agree with all of their political views because they also believe in only the good and right things.

I've always thought it was funny when someone tries to state one piece is somehow inherently leftist. you could just as, if not more, easily 'prove' the work is inherently right wing. eg: the world gov't is the global leftist elite. I say this as I believe the work is inherently non political, but the argument is so easily countered it's funny

If anything, it is libertalian or borderline anarchic at some point. Straw hat pirate themselves has a habit of helping and saving monarchy throughout the story
@athrun214 күн бұрын
I was going to bring up them befriending & helping royalty as well, but I didn't want that necessarily counted as right wing
@Ozzystrayroo14 күн бұрын
@@athrun2 no. He is not a right wing by any measure. If anything he is a libertalian center who only wanted freedom to do what he want and happens to associate with both the monarchy and anarchic revolutionary/pirates
@athrun214 күн бұрын
@@Ozzystrayroo I never said anyone was right wing. all I said was arguments can be made to counter the "it's leftist" stuff & that I think the story has no political lean. I just didn't want "help royalty" to be called right wing either. again, I don't think the story has a political lean. luffy is very much an "I'm going to what I want, because it's what I want. yay, freedom" guy, & that's all I'll ascribe to it

I was already familiar with Randy before this. He has a KZbin channel where he talks about the weekly chapters and prior to the Live Action's first season release, he was making videos predicting the cast, then showing off clips of them acting when they were revealed. I do think he's a genuine fan. That being said, He doesn't have to like Trump, he better not try using the Live Action as some kind of political propaganda. I don't think he would, and that Oda would let such a thing happen, but no harm in saying it.
