I haven't watched much One Piece (haven't found the time) but from what little I've seen/know, I think this show at the very least looks like it'll be a fun watch! I think the track record of anime live actions has made anime fans very jaded, as I've seen people calling the dialogue cringy, but from what we've seen it's honestly not that bad. I think it looks charming and from the behind the scenes, we at least know the cast and crew are passionate about the og series! So even if it's not everyone's cup of tea, I hope people don't just mindlessly throw it in the same category as shameless cash-grabs like death note's english live action.

That punch initially where you thought it might be a stretchy one then said it's just an uppercut... it is a stretchy one. I have a feeling they're not going to be calling out all the moves like the anime does. They definitely do it for the slowed down first-time-we-see-it punch, but if you watch that first one in slow motion you can definitely see it. (OK, you caught that after I typed this.)

What set the tone for me in One Piece was Lucky Roo coldly executing a bandit. I really hope that scene is in there, reminds people that we are dealing with pirates and it's not all fun and games. It also made Luffy's personality a lot more endearing to me, because of the contrast of having a silly goofy pirate sailing around in a sea with, potentially, a bunch of cutthroats.

I usually cringe with live actions of animes but surprisingly i liked this one! maybe bc I came in with low expectations but even so I love how they didn’t follow the anime through and through. There’s just some things that don’t translate well in a live adaptation and I’m glad they didn’t force it.

When luffy says all great fighters call out their finishing move, and zorro replies they dont, i think they intentionally put it, beacuse they are not going to call out names of the attack each time they use. And thats really good i think they will only use sanji's curly eye brows when he awakens and using his power, that way sanji will not seem weird in live action , best choice.. they really tried to blend the fiction in reallity and it works, they have learned from their last mistake cowboy bebop, which they tried to do same as anime and made it cringe.. this is perfact blend as of now

As a massive fan who owns all the manga and rereads parts of One Piece nearly everyday I was really happy with the trailer. There was a lot to like and not a lot that caused suspicions of them pulling another Cowboy Bebop and ruining characters (Faye, Vicious, and Julia RIP). I think the vibe they went for looks great and reminds me a lot of the movie "Hook" which imo is the perfect target for them to shoot for regarding the tone of a One Piece live action. I really hope they respect the lore and don't tinker with the essence of the characters or radically diverge from the most impactful story beats. I don't expect a 1 for 1 retelling of the manga, but an adaptation that hits all the highs and lows without "fixing it" and toning down the more eccentric elements of the manga/anime that wouldn't work in live action (e.g. Sanji's Love Hurricane).

As far as i can see.... It put a wide smile on my face while watching it each and every time.. and the vibe feel lime one piece but not too similar to the original to constantly remind me of the anime which can make me do the constant comparison subconsciously. But since it looks like it sets itself separate from the original and trying to be its own thing, but still retains the soul of original one piece. That's how a great live action is supposed to be made... Not one to one copy paste. And since this teaser is apparently 1 year old footage, the final product will be more polished and refined, so hopefully it is as good if Not even better than this teaser.

It all depends on Oda. One Piece is only as good as it is because of his God tier writing. The more involved he was in reworking the story to make it less episodic and work in live action with only 8 episodes is a tough task. luckily they have the knowledge of a 1000+ chapters after the events your depicting, a luxury they didn't have when it was first animated or even when first published in the manga.

It’s not perfect, of course, because it was an animation BUT they are doing really well. VERY well. People are going to hate on all live actions because they don’t look exactly like the anime. Compared to others, this looks great. If you wanna talk about bad anime adaptation. Attack on Titan was atrocious. They clearly didn’t care for any details there. You are not a TRUE One Piece fan if you think that Luffy's personality from the trailer is the same as the anime. Luffy is carefree and this Luffy is NOT carefree. The seas did not call to him but wants to be Pirate King cause it is the most free. Luffy did not seek a "loyal" crew but instead was nonchalant looking for at least 10 members. Luffy would literally ask anyone he found interesting to join, did not have to be LOYAL. Many more but ive made my point.
