He loved her and she loves him back. People keep saying Saturn created a second Nika through his hubris. No. Saturn didn't create a second Nika. Kuma did. That panel where we see a flashback of him talking to Ginny's grave, where he says he'll raise Bonney well - he's seeing the culminations of him doing that. He's seeing Nika made real through his efforts to raise his child well. She's his joygirl, his sun.

All the people that are malding about it on twitter are the same people that can't view any given Panel without trying to extrapolate Power Scaling Data from that. For Bonny to achieve this state, through the inspiration and encouragment of Luffy, doesnt only achieve Kumas Desire for his Daughters freedom, but it also shows that Luffys ability to inspire people has grown exponentially since Mihawk identified this as Luffys strongest Power in Marineford. Kuma spent Bonney’s entire childhood instilling her with hope via the tales of Nika. Bonney was on the brink of losing that hope as the result of all Saturn put her and Kuma through. She almost lost her ability to become Nika - her ability to imagine a world where she is free, because of Saturn. Luffy inspired her. Brought hope back into her world. And so she manages to become Nika by imagining a world where she is free. It is SUCH an amazing story.

Isn't it rather bigoted to act like powers and fighting is not a core narrative thread in every arc of One Piece, and to dismiss someone's care for narrative consistency as "silly". Luffy does not win every fight with the power of friendship. That's what makes the story better than the other shonen imo. But this obviously necessitates a difference in power. The whole reason for 3D2Y is because Luffy needed an entire saga and losing his brother to realize he was not strong enough. If powerscaling "never matter" in One Piece then the time skip would have no reason to exist. Now, if you don't care about that. That's up to you. But why does that mean nobody else can?

I’m glad Bonney got this power up cuz now she can finally strike back at the people who made her life and her family’s a living hell. When Kuma punched Saturn it was satisfying but compared to the lifetime of pain he and the other Gorosei have inflicted on the Kumas it wasn’t enough for me. Now Bonney can deliver her revenge with her own hands and I’m excited to see what combo attacks two Sun Gods can come up with.

In reality it was confirmed long ago and Oda hid those confirmations. There are 3 strong pieces of evidence Oda left in plain sight. 1.) Bonney would be the 11th straw hat and Oda drew her setting out on her journey eleven hundred chaptrers after Luffy. 2.) The final panel of the chapter "Luffy's Dream" is Bonney popping out of the warm water eddy. 3.) When Bonney, Luffy, Jinbe, and Chopper arrive on Egghead it's an overt reference to Star Wars. Chopper is Chewbacca, Jinbe is han, the pilot, and Luffy who was made into an old man, who then lectures Bonney as she uses the lightsaber, is Obi Wan. This makes Bonney Luke. Obi Wan adopted Luke when he was 13 years old after his parental guardians were killed. Bonney is right around that age.

I am excited for this power-up, cause it is exactly as Oda has made most of his other devil fruits and how I feel he was trying to explain devil fruits through Vegapunk. i can "understand" the blowup reaction to Bonnie's nika, but to those who do, I think you are missing the point. This isn't focused on Luffy giving Bonnie nika powers to have a strong ally, this is Luffy sharing the joy and liberation of freedom that Bonnie so desperately needs, reaching out his hand to her in the darkness as a ray of light saying "what are you waiting for? Let's live and be free". She's like an honorary Joy Boy and all things considered, given how Gear 5 can alter and effect basically anything and anyone around Luffy, it might be possible that Luffy himself being gear 5 is what allows this to happen, that Bonnie couldn't do it without him, and maybe even that Luffy can give others the ability to share in the joy of liberation and enable them to be a part of gear 5 too. tldr, be happy for Bonnie instead of being afraid of possible powerscaling

I think it's less about luffy giving her the power, but more that Luffy finally explained her what Nika is. Now that she understands Nika is the power of freedom and believes in herself, she can finally use her power to become like Nika.
