Thank you so much! My story is so different - started ballet in my 60s, to help balance affected by illness. I had always longed to ‘do ballet’, could not do so as a child, and at this point in my life assumed ‘old people don’t do ballet’. Luckily, I found they could, and discovered an amazing teacher - quite ‘old school’, hard working but aware - and longed to dance in small performances. Now I’m taking third round of exams, and nerves have got worse and worse. After one performance, I told my teacher I felt ‘they just felt sorry for me’ (an old lady thinking she could dance - how embarrassing!) - and she said, ‘they did, because you looked so miserable!’ - lesson, but still a challenge. I’m following your videos and I feel now I can work with almost the same idea, that ‘just enjoying and feeling it’ is not self-indulgent or vain - it’s ballet! Thank you!

Excellent video. Kelsey's thought to you was spot on. I enjoy performances when I see dancers who bring me with them into the music, who I can tell are enjoying the music and the moment. It actually helps me to appreciate each movement (knowing many are not easy). So glad this shift occurred for you while still a professional ballet dancer.

Hi, @kelleynewton1143. Appreciative to connect with you in this community. 🙂 I’ve been a musician for over 15 years now and still experience stage performance anxiety symptoms. As a recent doctoral graduate, I wanted to dive into personal research as I connect with others who experience similar anxieties whether on stage, speaking and presenting in general. Would you be open to sharing some of your valuable insights with me? Just Looking for those willing to help with my research! Grateful to find a community here! 😊

Thank you so much for your vulnerability and sharing your story. It resonated deeply with me. And gave me the courage to take on a role for my studio’s winter show that I never would have bc of fear of performing. I am definitely going to carry your words with me of focusing on the love of dance and sharing that meaningful connection with the audience. Your videos give me courage to not disqualify myself (from your other video) and to really evaluate my inner mantra to myself. I just dance recreationally as an adult, but I believe how we show up for dance is similar to how we show up in life. Thank you for this channel. I wish I had someone like you telling me these things as a teenager dancing lol

Aww Roeh, thank you so much for this incredibly kind comment! I agree with you that our approach to dance carries over to our approach to life. I am so happy you will carry forward what you’ve learned from this! Thank you again for the comment and for watching!

With having so much pressure from ourselves (and others) as dancers to be “perfect” we simply lose our humanity as artists to be able to express our joy that we find through our performance.
