Oh the frustration of watching you not follow up on the 3 after placing the 8 in column 9! I love the way you explain what you are doing though.

Thank you for these fantastic lessons. You are teaching my eyes to see more clearly. These more difficult puzzles have been beyond me... now.. I am enjoying finishing more and more

Another very good video explaining 'why you do this' or 'what this pair does to the row' etc. I could phone up for a clue but that wouldn't tell me how or why that particular number must go in this square. The reason i keep watching your vids is because you EXPLAIN. Thanks a lot mate.

12:05: Another example of the "shooting holes" technique. After the 1 and 6 pair is established at the top left box, there are only three numbers missing in the first row: 2,5 and 8. 2 and 5 "shoots" into the "hole" at 1st row, 7th column, where you can put an 8 as well as the 2 and 5 pair. Does this technique have a name amongst you guyz and galz? ;O)

Why do you ignore cleanup after you find a number? If you proceeded with cleanup after the 5s, you would have most of the grid filled out.

In the bottom-mid box from the beginning there is a partition into 3 subsets: (37)(48)(2569). The (37) is also solvable.

Wow, it’s July 26, 2022 and I was looking for some tips for the New York Times hard puzzle. I went to go apply what I learned and THIS IS THE SAME PUZZLE AS TODAY! I didn’t know they recycled them what a crazy coincidence

At 12:00 i saw the 3 on the right. It seems there was two ways to get to the end. Very nice.

I think the issue with this is that you are trying to show "patterns" or "tricks" for a collection of puzzles but only talking about one puzzle. Why not grab a few that share this same feature? The video would be less "here's how to solve this puzzle" and more "here's what the pattern looks like regardless of numbers."
@mahkhyecheng56755 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. It’s like How to solve this puzzle rather than, techniques to solve Soduko puzzles..
@mahkhyecheng56755 жыл бұрын
Maybe a better method would be to take certain patterns of soduko puzzles and teach techniques how to solve that patter. Don’t have to solve a complete puzzle. This cuts the time from 42 minutes to say 10 mins. Have many short short techniques to solve patterns in soduko. Just saying.

Something interesting is that at around 7:50 the 3's and 7's in the lower left two blocks don't cause a uniqueness issue (and thus force the 8 into col1 row4) because the 7 in the middle left block is a given number. This messed me up as when I copied down the puzzle I failed to distinguish the given numbers!

The discussion about where to put the 9 in the lower middle block goes on for way longer than it needs to. The 9s in rows 3,4 and 8 directly show that a 9 must be centre of row 7 or 9. If a number is forced into a single row/column of a block then it is trivially true that the other rows/columns will not have that number.

Thank you with your techniques I can now solve hard level puzzles on NYT. I am struggling with the 'tough' level puzzle on sudoku.com.au. Could you please have a go at some of them. Thank you

The hardest soduko always come down to Insert one of two numbers and then solve through till proven right/wrong on your guess.

I've noticed different solving styles (application of strategy priorities) in different videos. I'm wondering if this is related to time of day, blood chemistry, sleep schedule, or something else.

I downloaded the Duncan's sudoku solver but curious if there is another program that uses the same click on an area of the square for 1-9 but also has highlighting of numbers you are looking for similar to some of the iPhone players. Ex. Will highlight ever cell that has a 3 candidate possibility. I saw one guy using a player that you can highlight each little candidate which makes it easier to work our AIC solutions.

@@notnotandrew At the very beginning he shows that the 38 can only go in C 1 and 9 in R4 . This comes into play later when placing the 4 in C1. It breaks open the whole puzzle.

This lesson is HOW TO SOLVE NYT soduko puzzles? How about puzzles from other sources?
@croaky81555 жыл бұрын
You allude to doing the puzzle in a logical pattern for once. Seeing as the whole idea of sudoku is logic based, why don’t you start with number one through to nine?
@mahkhyecheng56755 жыл бұрын
Just saying, most soduko lessons goes to half an hour to 40 mins long. You are teaching how to solve a particular puzzle. Just saying, it’s shorter and easier on the student if you teach techniques m how to solve a pattern. Most puzzles must conform a certain pattern because of the rules. How about short short lessons on techniques instead of long drawn out lesson that solves A WHOLE puzzle. 40 mins lesson is like going back to school classrooms. Gets me sleepy. Sorry.
