A tip: Don't start directly the car after removing the injectors, because piezo inyectors working without diesel will cause them to fail, so, crank the car with the electric conection of the injectors unplugged
@W15Garage29 күн бұрын
@@alexcucala3657 thanks for watching! You’re absolutely right. I didn’t recorded everything in this video, what I like to do is with my Autel connected i purge the air, 4-5 times, than with the injectors disconnect 3-4 times cranking, this also helps to build up some oil pressure after oil changes. 535d and the 40d range have the piezo injectors, thanks God mines are bosh, much cheaper to replace if needed.😄

Plastic valve covers ...what could possibly go wrong. i had to replace mine due to warping. They use way too much plastics these days under the bonnet/hood.

Great video . Do you use new injector bolts afterwards ? Or reuse the originals , thanks
@W15Garage2 ай бұрын
Thanks, I’ve always reused them, so far no issues, but the bolt holes are always sparking clean before installing.

Thank You for this video, i am about to replace valve cover as well, because gaskets around injectors is passing oil on top of the cover, timing chain was changed so valve cover was already opened once, i dont want to risk it to replace just gaskets and seals, i will replace complete valve cover like you did. Is it possible that valve cover leak can cause excessive blow-by with oil consumption and cold start blue smoke which is less than 5sec.?, checked turbo and compression all ok car perform well, egr is mapped out, downpipe installed and remapped. Many Thanks.
@W15GarageАй бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching. I’ve had a pretty bad valve cover oil leak, but there was no blue smoke at start up. What I’ve experienced though is that turbos can leak oil despite the shafts being ok, and not having excessive play, when hand checked. A leak down test could also be useful in this case. Do you also experience oil consumption between oil changes?
@straight_to_the_point7869Ай бұрын
@@W15Garage Many Thanks for your response, I understand and you might be right with the turbo issue, that it may leak without play in the shaft, but the smoke come just at cold start up and just for few seconds, otherwise there is no blue smoke or loss of performance, seems to me that the issue might be in valve cover leak, I try to explain why I think that: As turbo is pushing compressed air through intercooler then through shudder valve into the intake manifold the boosted air is passing through leaky valve cover gasket (injector gaskets area) into the breather valve which is integrated with valve cover and pushes the oil residues by blow-by through the breather pipe which is connected to air pipe and which is connected to turbo compressor wheel side then the oil is sucked in to the turbo, therefore oil from breather get into turbo housing and it pushes it's oil through intercooler into intake manifold and finally into the combustion chamber where is burn hence blue smoke and as it is engine left for a few hours oil residue is collected for first start up hence the smoke on start up...sorry for long explanation, but seems to me you have lot of experience with these engines, could this be a correct theory why car is smoking on start up and loosing oil? Regarding your question about oil consumption between oil changes, this oil consumption and smoke started just a few weeks ago and it is not extreme, I would say I am loosing about 200ml every 1000km, and there is oil residue in intercooler and both intercooler pipes. Leak test is a good idea. Thank You for taking a time to read this.
@W15GarageАй бұрын
@@straight_to_the_point7869 Absolutely no problem! In my opinion it’s either the turbo, or slightly stuck piston oil rings. The combustion compartment doesn't communicate with the upper chamber (camshaft area). The injectors are sealed by copper o-rings, and even if the valve cover injector oil rings are leaking out oil in the injector holes(valve cover holes), they are not in contact with the combustion system. These leaks can cause oil to escape, but there is no compression present in that area. The turbo creates boost, and via the intercooler and throttle body, compressed air gets into the combustion chambers. The valve cover is one floor up from this system, injector o rings are not responsible for holding compression. If there is crankcase pressure under the valve cover, it is likely due to bad oil piston rings. Leaky valve cover gasket can cause oil leaks, it is not responsible for introducing oil into the combustion system or causing blue smoke. Sorry for the long message😊

Do you only use a genuine bmw rocker cover or would you be happy to use a non genuine one?

Nice one. Which brand of timing kit would you recommend please
@W15Garage7 күн бұрын
@@Romangal2701 thanks for watching! I would recommend original, or IWIS(manufacturer of the bmw chains) FEBI also a good brand. With the cheaper ones the plastic guides are the real risk..they would deteriorate with time, small pieces will fall down the oil pan, and clog the oil pump pick up tube, causing oil starvation.

@W15Garage20 сағат бұрын
@@momor7786 upper timing tensioner has metal o ring(similar to oil drain bolt) in rare cases it can leak oil from the inside, but i doubt it is the case. I think it’s the valve cover leaking somewhere.
