One Sheet Baby Boat, Part 1 - The Build, abbreviated version

The basic idea for this design is to create a boat hull with the highest possible load-bearing capacity from a single sheet of plywood. In this case, the 4 mm Sapele plywood sheet I used for this purpose is slightly larger than the most common format (250 x 125 cm instead of the usual 244 x 122 cm). According to my hydrostatic calculations, even with the 2.4% smaller version at a total displacement of 200 kg (two people 90 kg each + 16 kg boat weight + 4 kg for the oars), the freeboard is still 17.8 cm (7 inches).
Disclaimer: This boat design is only to be understood as a water toy and its usability is accordingly limited.

Hello.. Thank you for this free design.. I am from Iraq and I made one similar to your design, but I suffered from the poor quality of the materials I used. In my country I couldn't get good materials. I also changed some of the design and made it a two-piece. I will post it on my channel soon after putting the finishing touches on it. love all your designs @flo-mo , they are magical in their transformation in to such graceful craft. I wish this Baby Boat would work for me and my big hound dog... would the 12 foot Romax be suitable for about 200 kg, too, and suitable for large lake use in moderate conditions (I live 6 km from Comox Lake on Vancouver Island and will be touring Canada so Okanagan Lake, Kootenay Lake, etc.? I was going to make the 2 Sheet Flywood but it would have to be in sections as 16 ft too long for my vehicle to transport! Plus I plan to pull it behind my bike on a wheeled cart. I only row, I don't canoe/paddle.

Hi Wendy, thank you so much for the kind words about my designs. Yes, I believe the 12 foot Romax is suitable for you and your dog. At 200 kg payload, I think you are already close to the limit, but it is still within the acceptable range. I don't know anything about the lakes you mentioned, but I'm convinced that conditions can change very quickly and the water is very cold most of the time. Therefore, I hesitate to judge whether the small Romax is suitable for these waters. However, if it is possible to make tours with canoes there without any problems, I am convinced that this is also feasible with the small Romax. Kind regards, Stefan
