I was recon with the Airborne unit (3/325 ABCT) in Vicenza late 80s early 90s. We still rocked the LBE and Alice packs, though we modified them to fit our needs. We trained alot with the British Paras, and we adopted some of their ideas. Even using 4 man recce teams as we were always under manned. Great kit, very adaptable, comfortable, and keeps one from over heating.

Love Jay Jay's, that's actually one of his belts that the system is mounted to.

I'm probably 2 yrs too late but they do make a straw adapter kit that works on regular water bottles wide mouth or regular. I got one 5 yrs ago

Indeed, I actually started off in my LC2 days running a 2qt canteen with the straw on my LBE for drinking on the go and a 1qt without a straw for use as my drinking while static solutions. I've kept this philosophy throughout the years and have experimented with several solutions. Floppy containers with a tube (usgi 2qt/hydration bladder) are good for drinking on the go because they don't slosh and don't require any extra time to "hang on, let me get my water bottle out, sip and get my pouch clipped back". On the flip side, hard side containers are much more convenient for use when static such as in a patrol base. Ever try to drink from a half full 2qt canteen in the middle of the night when you're mostly asleep? That's a recipe for dumping it on yourself>hypothermia>death. To further complicate things, water in straws freeze making any solution with a straw a no go for winter ops. Keeping all this in mind, my solution as of this video was to carry a metal 1 liter bottle that can be used with the cup to heat a meal and liquid at the same time and is convenient for static use for the 3 warm seasons. The bladder gives me a total of 3 liters which I like for summer ops and can be half filled without making noise if I want less in cooler conditions. The straw is convenient for anything above freezing. For winter ops, the bladder gets swapped with a 2 liter south african canteen (if I need that much water for the mission) and the 1 liter bottle becomes my primary on the go water source.

I'm looking into taking some One Shepherd courses so that point about being able to swap our your harness for the miles gear is really good to know. Were you able to use that gear at One Shepherd even though it's mostly multicam? I have a bunch of multicam myself and was concerned I wouldn't be able to bring any of it since their website seems pretty strict about using green gear. Perhaps the multicam is green enough?

Actually this is left over from a time when 1S uniform regulations in the field simply called for "a subdued color" for LBE. Green is required at this time, no camouflage patterns. Fortunately, Velocity sells these pouches in Ranger Green and many manufacturers that sell to European nations also produce items in various greens.

Thank you for that clarification. Bummer about their regulation change.

Looks like a good option. I've actually reduced the amount of water I carry on my fighting load to 1 Qt/L as I continue to define my load carry systems. I learned a lot running this kit but have since swapped it for a Jay Jays chameleon kit and am working on flushing that out. www.fivesevenconsulting.com/2023/04/26/lines-loads-and-orders-load-carry-system-codification/

How did you mount the safariland holster?
@TheMilsimPerspective

Yeah that took a bit of doing, It's a QLS on a CUBL on a MLS fork. I had to drill holes on the CUBL to mount it on the fork but it worked well once secured, I used a long CUBL to drop the holster to a manageable height.

Nice video, can you tell me about the water bottle and cup?
@TheMilsimPerspective

Sure thing, that's a Pathfinder school bottle and titanium cup though I can't remember the brand off the top of my head. The cup meshes with the bottle slightly tighter than the Pathfinder cup and henceforth rattles a bit less and makes less noise when I'm reinserting the bottle into the pouch.
