Dear Christy-Lyn, I love how you run us so so calmly through exercises. I love this video as it covers so much that eventually leads us to play far better if we take note of all you say and realise how important it is. I'm an older beginner to learning music and playing the Harp. I have been very slow to learn and have been doing it all through marvellous people like you on You Tube other than one face to face lesson to make sure I'm on the right track with hand and finger position etc. to start with. I've been a little obsessed with learning the right technique but I believe this will pay off in the end. Besides, I just love the sound of the harp even when I'm just practising random notes and skills. You are an amazing teacher and I can't thank you enough for helping me on my harp journey. I'm finally feeling like I'm getting somewhere and I'm so excited to be making music with my beautiful harp. Linda

Hi Christy-Lyn, again....thank you for your wonderful video’s! I’m also a somewhat older adult ;-) learning to play harp. And your video’s , along with my private harplessons once every two weeks, always a great help! Your assurance that we will make progress by practicing on our own level is so sweet and re-assuring! Being a patreon and really feeling a part of your harp community is part of my daily harp-routine. Thanks!

Great explanation of the brackets. I have seen them, but didn't really understand what they stood for. Thanks!

thank you Christy-Lyn - this video is very helpful to me in regard of: recognizing the notes on a sheet and the relevanant strings - the 2nd voice/bass key was always puzzling me - thank you that you have showed the notes plus the fingerwork together 🌷🌷🌷

I've purchased the books by Sylvia Woods and they have taught these same techniques but it is so helpful to actually see it in practice. I've just discovered your videos and they have been so helpful. I have a bit of a challenge as I have a scar on my left 3rd finger right where it needs to be placed on the string. My finger slips off the strings because of this so it is difficult to play descending patterns. I don't have any trouble ascending though. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and expertise!

Sounds like you’re doing a great job, Philsh! At first it will seem a lot, but with repetition and persistence it will become second nature. Keep it up, you can do it!! Thanks for the encouragement - it’s so good for me to hear ❤️

Hi I can’t see how to get free sheet for bracketing plrase
@annettekelly15925 жыл бұрын
Good timing.... I was just going to email and ask you a question about bracketing. In another video you encourage making notes on the music after you study it. I wondered if you write in brackets for every single set including the overlapping brackets. Could you please send a little phone picture of music after you have made your notes? I also wanted to know if you always memorize music before playing/performing?
@LearningtheHarp5 жыл бұрын
Hi Annette! These are great questions ☺️ For students who are learning bracketing I write in all the brackets including overlapping brackets. Later on when they start being able to automatically do the bracketing, we don’t have to write it all in. For myself now, I automatically choose good fingering most of the time, so I only write in fingering and/or bracketing when it’s not obvious, to make sure that I practice with the same fingering every time. Hope that helps! I like to memorize for performances where there’s an audience keeping quiet and listening to every song, because that allows me to look up at the audience when I’m singing, and to play with more musicality and connection. But when I play background music for hours at an event I play from sheet music... memorizing is a big effort for me!

Learning the Harp with Christy-Lyn! Thank you so much for taking time to reply. I started playing harp over 4 years ago, teaching myself with Sylvia Woods book. Finding Videos on line later and other books. Being a pianist, I definitely have raced through music faster than my technique was ready, so your tutorials are very helpful. I actually take notes! As I was using your practice sheets and trying to do it in slow motion, it seems that I am placing the overlap finger AS I play the next note rather than completely before. Is that possibly what happens over time? It seemed like a different hand movement to “go backwards” in a way. But I don’t want to sound “plucky” in my playing. 😃

I’m just learning and your videos are great. I have played piano for years but the technique for harp is so different. When doing this exercise I find it easier and smoother to use the 3rd finger as a stabilizer, but I don’t think that’s the proper way. I’m having a difficult time making it sound smooth and not plucky using just two fingers. Any other suggestions? Or just keep practicing.

Is it just me, or are brackets with intervals of a 2nd the hardest?

I’m new to this. I want to buy a harp. Can I just buy any harp?
@LearningtheHarp Жыл бұрын
Hi! No there are huge differences in quality, and if you buy the cheapest harps from Ebay or Amazon sometimes they fall apart within a year. Here are my recommendations, hope this helps! www.learningtheharp.com/harp-starter-kit/
