Hey I’m hoping this comment reaches you. I ordered the Saturn 4 ultra when it first came out when I got it around June….3 prints in and the printer would no longer print everytime I tried printing it will make a pop sound power down turn back on and ask if I wanna restart my print when I hit yes it happens again. Everytime the uv light turns on boom it fails. I reached out to Elegoo and it’s been a nightmare they send me the parts missing a wire I did not have time to work on it cause of work but when I figured out I was missing a wire….1 hour to figure out I was not leaving a wire inside the machine but was in fact missing it. They sent me new parts missing the same wire then sent the parts with the wires not even soldered onto the chip with the light source on it. So I did it myself and the printer still does the same. I’m frustrated it’s been like 7 months and I still can’t print. I don’t know what to do anymore and im just hoping that by reaching out to someone who has connects in Elegoo if hopefully something can be done so they can actually help me or take this printer back and send me another.

Glad to see you call out the screen replacement process on these tilting printers. I am still using a mighty 8k (which i love, but sloooow) and eventually will upgrade to one of the tilt vat models, but not until someone comes out with one where a screen replacement doesn't require a full down to the studs remodel.

It's not leveling. It is only some sort of check. There still is no way to normally level this plate like on any other printer
@gaelcross
@gaelcross 7 күн бұрын
@AG-x4r well, i agree with you it's a "manual check" with paper sheets, not a "real leveling". What is said in this video is that wasn't available on the Saturn 4 Ultra. I just corrected this mistake because this process (with the paper sheets, the screws and the buildplate laying on screen) is indeed present in this model since the december firmware update, as i own one and could see it myself

I just put my build plate into the cleaning bath with prints still on it ahha,I do this using the anycubic wash n cure 3 plus, with the rack set up for the plate so only the lower section of the plate dips into the alcohol - cleans it and the prints together and I never drip resin anywhere, its a really nice system tbh, gets around a lot of cleaning issues and takes away most of the issue with this built plate. 😁😁
@joelbanks8868
@joelbanks8868 7 күн бұрын
Not sure if the 3 plus has the same issues as the max, but I found excess resin didn't get completely removed before curing so I have to do a pre wash before the wash. If you notice any tackiness/stickiness after curing it's because the resin wasn't completely washed off, this does affect tolerances so if parts require significant sanding to fit together, this is one reason why. Also if tolerances are an issue supposedly curing it in a liquid like water (and I think ipa works too) helps dissipate the heat that occurs when curing which also affects tolerances.

@@joelbanks8868 well i have two of the 15L washing containers😅😅 , so yea i do already do two washes anyway, Ill just put it in the first one, do a 5 min clean, then as i lift it out, spray some more alcohol on with my spray bottle, and its like 80-90% clean, and then i replace the wahsing container with my second one, which remains almost completely clear and do a second round of 5 mins :) so yea I do not have any issues, after the two washes in a first dirty/cloudy container then the much cleaner one my prints come out super clean every time, if there is any areas left i see needing more, i just spray with my spray bottle a ibit :)

Just ordered this unit, it'll be my first 3d printer. I see a lot of whinging about a lot of things here, but I think I can safely say they really don't/won't apply to whatever experience I may have. I won't be cranking out prints 24/7, won't be putting it in a freezing environment, and I think I can tip the lid without needing the handle. I'm an old techie from way back, so rippin' this baby open to replace the LCD in the future will be quite the challenging adventure and learning experience, even if things are a bit hot-glued. The thing is, these machines have come a long way but they're still not perfect, probably never will be. I'm nearly old as dirt so I can't wait for the perfection to drop in my dusty lap, so part of my fun will be fine-tuning a couple things and hopefully I won't eff it up too much. Keep having fun and being creative!

love the review, you are the only one actually testing the printers instead of just reviewing the specification sheet that comes with it. So we have a worse print quality but vat heater for 100Euro more. Maybe the 12k saturns now go on bigger sale. If Anycubic comes with m7 max with higher res screen this year, they will sweep the market

I held off on the Saturn 4 Ultra to see how this new tech would work out, as I was an unwilling beta tester for the Anycubic M5s. After I helped with the new adjustable V2 build plate, they sent me one, and I just packed the whole thing up and put it in storage! It's still there to this day. I bought the Elegoo Saturn 3 Ultra as replacement instead, as I already had Saturn 2s and love them. I was too fast to jump on the new test with auto-leveling! Great video very interesting on the 16k I thought it might have been better with the now square pixels back from 12k rectangular that left alot scratch marks more testing will be done but think I'll order one now and see!

Great video review, as always. And as you say great printer. There is an arms-race going on at the cost of affordability. Sure I love that they added a vat heater. In reality I don't need the extra resolution, so 12K will be more than enough. A slightly smaller build area is imho worse that an increase in resolution that I never would see or appreciate. And the main thing is that all this new stuff comes at a price. I have the 12K already and I like it, and stick to it. But if I hadn't purchase the 12k already then, just like I cannot afford the super FDM Bamboo or Prusa core one, I do not want to spend an 25% on top of the Saturn Ultra 12K to chose the 16K. For almost everyone, price is a very important factor when making a choice. Keep the videos and the discussions going.

Another great video Ross. I'd love that heated vat tray for my 12K Ultra. Another advantage of "that" build plate, is that it is easily swapped out. I have at least two build plates for all my printers, allowing me to get the printer turnround between prints to a minimum. Unlike my Anycubics (or any other printer which uses plates manually levelled to the screen) each plate has to be setup to an individual printer, and not swapable between similar printers. I hadn't realised the screen was smaller, thanks for that - I think. Now back in a quandry, I intend getting another Saturn 4 Ultra, and would really like the heated vat, but do use the full size of the current screen, so loosing approx 3mm alround will be an issue. I have the Elegoo space heater installed (again as per the heated vat no manual adjustment of temp), however it maintains a temp within the enclosure of approx 26C, when I can get the display up to show the current running settings the resin is often around or above 30C. I assume from the COB heat source. I live in Scotland so need heating most of the year, I wish I was as kind to the human operator (me) as I am to the resin, I don't have any space heating.

Another great video. I didn’t get another S4U because of the absolute ordeal it is to change the screen. This updated version doesn’t address that so it’s a no go for me. All printer reviews need to cover ease of maintenance imo. Good to see vat heaters and tech coming down to this tier of printer though. Still probably a Uniformation or HeyGears next generation for me though at this point.

I have a S4U. I needed to do a screen replacement. I started the tear down and the plugs were all hot glued in a mess. Some cable plugs were hot glued to nearby heatsinks. A row of plugs was all glued together with one long mass of glue. It was just a total mess. In trying to force the glue off one of the plugs my tweezers slipped and it popped off a capacitor. Now, I could solder that capacitor back on, but it's just ridiculous that replacing a wear and tear part required me to disassemble the entire machine and the plugs I needed to remove were just glued in with a mess of glue that required tons of force to remove. At times I was worried about breaking the PCB boards as I was applying pressure to the glue/plugs. It's something Elegoo needs to address on these machines or they'll lose at least one customer for life. For the build plate, just get a flexplate. I never remove the actual build plate any more. I just pop off the flex plate, slap on a new one, and you're good to go. It makes the two level build plate a non-issue.

I appreciate the higher resolution. You might not like it for your use case of hand size miniatures. But Im trying to print sub mm mechanical parts, and the resolution is a god send. Also, when you're using resin printer for mechanical parts with tolerances, the resolution helps a tonne cuz I found that lower resolution, the parts just get stuck. So it's a use case thing. Just cause you don't need it, doesn't mean other people dont

Reaching out to the masses for thoughts. I bought a S4U and it got shipped about 2 days before the pre-order came out for the 16k. I also bought the Elegoo heater (cold room) to go with it. Now, my heater doesn't work (going to return to Elegoo, it maxes out at 19*C) and the S4U cover was cracked in a few places, along with the vat overflow sensor saying it was too full (once even when I didn't have the vat installed!). Right now I am either looking at returning it all for a refund from Elegoo and then ordering the 16k version, or working with Elegoo to return the heater, get a new lid, and then utilize a brew belt to heat the vat. I am a hobbyist printer, printing 3d dice and lots of miniatures, so the 12-16k resolution isn't important to me (current printer is a 4k), but don't know if its worth the convenience of built in heating for the 16k or stick with 12k and just vat heat

I held off on the Saturn 4 because I didn't think i would need a larger plate considering how err, subpar my experience with the Photon Mono 2 was. I got the mars 5U and looking into this as my next step as I love that thing. Garage Printing in Minnesota is Tricky to say the least. Elegoo heater attached to back of printer, Enclosure with thermal blanket wrapped/molded to the sides/top and it's OK most times. The vat heater on this along with the other things the S4U has going for it that I like outweigh the screen issues. I don't have a problem with the two tiered bed plate(mine actually came level, and has stayed level) especially considering the new wash tank that will allow me to use both the mars and the saturn bed plates right in the tank.

I’ve been in the market for a new printer but been having a really hard time deciding. It’s been back and forth between the S4U and the Photon M7. Haha I was as well but I absolutely HATE the new build plates on these Saturn 4s + I always get drips down the sides of the vat. Then there's the dreaded pin hole around the rim that makes the black tape go all wrinkly! 😂 Anyway I got an offer I couldn't refuse so I went with the Saturn 3 ultra for £270 delivered and I'm also testing the new Chitu Systems Hoopat X3 quick release vat system. The new vat from chitu has no screws so you can replace the PFA or ACF in just 30s and it creates the perfect tension so no more failures due to over or under tension. Anyway it's designed for the Saturn 2, 3 and 3 ultra and WOW is worth it, I've been testing it on the Saturn 2 with their ACF. The prints are super detailed just like in Fauxhammer's 12k ultra review and it fell like latex or rubber, even with a full print bed it's SILENT zero peel sound!

@@printitpaintit.2436Do you think the prints with the ACF were as sharp as the PFA? Mostly, Fauxhammer believes it’s not as sharp as PFA (without antialiasing turned on), but other have sometimes can’t see a difference between the ACF and the PFA. Separately, that new Chitu Systems replacement vat sounds great (for super-quick change of film and accurate film tensioning). You said “quick release” vat, but I assume the vat still uses original blot system, so it isn’t like Chitu included a “quick release slide lock” mechanism for this new vat that would replace the “knob screw bolt” system?
@printitpaintit.2436
@printitpaintit.2436 7 күн бұрын
@dovmerrill804 For the vat it uses the original printer bolts, by quick release they are referring to the film and it is quick maybe not the 30s they claim but I'd say you can do in 60s if you wanted to! As for the ACF I use Phrozen ACF and Apex ACF without any major loss of detail but I normally use it on my big printers so it's irrelevant because once you scale up a model you stretch out the details.. For small stuff like the Saturn 2 and 3 I used AA on the Saturn 2 and at 30um the prints look amazing. I forgot to turn on the AA for Saturn 3 ultra but the prints that I've done so far look much sharper than the Saturn 2 8k so now I've enabled it they should look even sharper!! (Saturn 2 had the old NFEP) The Saturn 3 ultra is really nice and the UI has way more options like you can alter almost any settings as you go, it's very similar to the Apex Maker X1 options wise! The fans are a little loud but that's all you can hear and they only come on when it's printing then turn off when it's finished, I can't say anything bad about it so far yer it doesn't have a heated vat but I have a little chamber heater so not a big deal. I should be posting some pictures of the vat and the prints I've just printed (Ladypool and Deadpool) + a baby dragon head from last month's loot studio bundle! The only problem I've found with the vat is the paint is already coming off but it does with the elegoo vats I don't know why they don't just use aluminium or stainless steel like Apex and Phrozen.. 🤔

I would gladly upgrade to this in a year or so from my GK2 (which was my first printer), however there are 2 crucial features which stops me from doing so: 1. The GK2 spoiled me with how easy they made cleaning the plate since it is one thick block and the resin mainly stays where it should be. Having to navigate that narrow row of columns of the Saturn seems like a nightmare to me since resin is very hard to clean up properly to begin with, I do not need the extra headache. 2.The lack of lids on resin trays. I do not like having to empty the resin every time I am done with a print, again another feature I have been spoiled by the GK2. At this point I really think more manufacturer should consider vat lids, since most of us just stick to 1 resin and cleaning the vat without damaging the FEP feels like trying to roll three 6s on dice; a gamble I am not willing to take. I give them massive credit for finally including a heater though, that part as a UK dweller is very attractive, just wish point 1 and 2 were also considered more by them.

@@FauxHammer Hah! Tell me about it... a few years back I was playing Warhammer Quest 95 with some friends... 3 turns in a row my Barbarian rolled a 1, on the fourth turn I said if I roll a 1 again I swear I'll flip the table. The dice landed on a CORNER... never seen that in my life, didn't know it was even possible, my friend told me that one of the Chaos Gods was definitely screwing with me and it was a legit roll. But yeah love my GK2 for now, still waiting for the next runner up.

Lower UV intensity could theoretically preserve the screen longer in Elegoo's production thinking, but experienced users know that no two screens are the same on the UV spectrum when they are made. It's a matter of luck; a panel could last a couple of years or only a fortnight. Unfortunately, this is something they haven't yet figured out; it's always a risk during a new screen's first three months.

I was hyped on the s4u when I dropped, but I'm glad I waited. Honestly I think I'm going to go with the anycubic m7. Elegoo seems like they are focusing too much on features and farkles and making it as "plug and play" as possible rather than making a solid, predictable machine. I don't need a luxury car with the xm radio package and heated seats, I need truck that is going to do the job it needs to do, and I'll add the features I need. Also, when I need to fix something (which I will) I need it to be as easy and accessible as possible. It seems to me that anycubic is leaning more towards repairability and build quality over "shiny new features" ... At least looking at the m7 I hope they are. Let's forget about the pro 😅

Hi Ross, I've been watching your videos for days, but the more I watch them the more confused I am. I would greatly appreciate it if you could give me specific advice in my case. Next month I will open my shop on MMF and I urgently need a printer to print my masters. The one I have is too old for that. I don't care about the print speed or the size of the plate because I will publish very detailed 75mm miniatures only. I only care about quality and I have a budget of 500/600 euros. Which one do you recommend? From your videos I understand that the best is the Phrozen mini 8Ks... but the video is now 1 year old, so I'm not sure if your suggestions are still valid. Also, could you tell me from which link of your videos I should buy it? Thank you!

I had the Mars 5 Ultra and I had to send it back. I went through 3 build plates and their last attempt to "fix" the issue resulted in a screw being sheered off. I'm baffled by the desire for a phone app, If I'm not at home where I can either check the progress on my PC , or just look at the printer, It's not like knowing the status of my print is useful information. I can't fix the problem. I'm not near my printer to change anything. Maybe I just don't print enough things that take 12 hours. the majority of my prints are under 3 hours(a lot under one). Or I don't have much of a life (possible) I did buy the previous printer based on your review, I built a forced air heater for it so I can control the temps. You can't fix it, but you can remote stop it so it stops wasting resin or burning images into your fep lol. Also a silly thing that I've ended up doing multiple times: sometimes I go to bed and I forgot to turn the lights off in my bambu, I turn it off from the app while in bed. LOL

@@KryaDiere but the amount of resin you lose from a failed print is almost all from the clean up process, I waste FAR more resin cleaning out the vat then from the little bits of resin cured on the bottom. @@mikelucraft right, yeah the machine itself generates heat and if it;s in an eclosure with little room for that heat to escape, then yeah, there's no way to control it. the issue you have is that the printers themselves have no, "pause and cool" function. so if your printer's CPU is hot and there's not enough ventilation for that heat to escape, it will just keep getting hotter. your thermal belt will shut off when it;s reached the required temp. but that;s not going to stop the printer. and it;s not even just the printer cpu, it;s the lightsource and the curing of resin also generates heat

So from my understanding the photon m7 max and saturn 4 ultra 16k are about equal because what one excels in the other doesn't. photon m7 max: it just works and isn't a nightmare to work with/maintain consumables, but is slower if you value quality over speed. -truly plug n play -easy to maintain -large build volume saturn 4 ultra 16k: has a list of QoL improvements that they're neglecting, is fast and prints high quality albeit about the same quality as it's predecessor after jumping through some hoops. -fast print speed -high quality prints -exposure test built into the printer itself

I love the Saturn 4 ultra however I broke my first one trying replace the lcd screen I see no reason why u need take the damn thing apart luckily it's only the ribbon cable connector which any computer guy can repair. I brought a new one no issues whatsoever. If I remember there's some ports that look like there for the heater system so might see a conversion kit the 4 ultra. I have very little complaints the printer other than the life span of the LCD screen being 2000 hours they need make a longer lasting one an make it way easier to get the screen put without taking the thing apart. Maybe a locking system that holds the screen in place u flip a few claps an remove it out the front. I don't see the need of tape an glue. Like a 2 plate system sandwiching the LCD screen in place. With claps or screws in place with tape over the top. That way all u need to do is take the back panel off disconnect the screen an pull it off. Remember idiots like me need to be able to do it without breaking it

I don't know if it is the printer companies fault for making people believe this or the printing company are just capitalizing on what people believe but i've had too many conversations with people who refuse to believe you can get prints just as nice from an 8 or 10k printer as you can from a 16k with a crap light source. My first 3D printer was an Ender 2 (max or pro, I don't remember the nomenclature), and ruined it and had to swap it's motherboard, couldn't make it work ever since. Point is, I'm not the *best* tinkerer (even if I like to do it sometimes), and thus, the screen being a full tear down is a huge problem for me, it almost made me not want to buy, and the only reason I'm going to is because the speed actually impacts how I'm going to use it. If there was another machine with similar speed/quality, I'd go for that and not look back.
