Jack Finney, who wrote "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" wrote this unusual tale about two people who communicate through time involving a desk. An excellent story, very much like "Somewhere in Time," but which ends less tragicly, starring Campbell Scott and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Worth one's time.
@TheCalico723 жыл бұрын
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (in any iteration) might just be my favorite sci-fi movie of all time so this nugget of information is greatly appreciated. Thanks
@carolleenkelmann47512 жыл бұрын
@Nick Campbell. If you neglect to read the comments, you miss out on satisfying the questions that arise, like, who was that again who wrote this and, it reminds me of, what was that film called now? Although a fan of sci-fi, body snatching and most Vampire movies and books for the most part, do not have the appeal that this film has. Maybe I'll be around to watch it again in a few years time.

Great movie and I too told my wife it reminded of "Somewhere in Time". We enjoy to old movies more so then the ones they are making now-a-days.
@KelikakuCoutin2 жыл бұрын
Maybe it wasn't the writing. It was the adaptation. The score reminded me of elevator music for one thing. Probably with another director it could have been more engaging. The actors, when they portrayed their archaic, Civil War era versions, seemed anachronistic to me, not believable. I might not be the right audience for this, that could also be the reason.
@isabellind12922 жыл бұрын
And for those who didn't know, Jennifer Jason Leigh's father was the late, Vic Morrow who, along w/2 children was killed (as many remember) during the filming of "The Twilight Zone" movie.

The Love Letter " resonates" like no other story I've ever " watched". The whole concept of love rubs against the grain of procreation, for the sake of perpetuating our species. Animals understand this instinctively. I was in love with love while I was still a virgin. My wife of 45 years understood this and we had a good life together. Ive only watched " The Love Letter" about 8 times... it's addictive!

I believe that one has to have fallen in love to feel the longing in this wonderful story. Love knows no boundaries. I fell in love for the first time when I was 41. I use to wonder what it would it feel like especially when I'd see couples obviously in deep love. When I did I felt songs and enjoyed the first kiss I'd see in a romance movie. To actually know what a first kiss felt like! He's no longer with me in body but I feel his soul and he'll always be in my heart. I miss his voice and I can't help finding things I'd like to share with him. He became my best friend for 22 yrs. We were together for 6 yrs before we had our first argument. He remembered the date and it became part of our anniversary calendar. Neither of us could remember what it was over but that didn't matter.. Thanku for sharing this movie. Wow! I truly needed this movie. It's almost 1 week since the devastating tornadoes that tore through Kentucky and other states and I happen to be living in Madisonville, Kentucky which is just a few miles away from Dawson Springs, Kentucky which was decimated by the tornado. To that end, it's not lost on me that the story line is about two people finding love across time and the character of Eliizabeth Whitcomb happens to be living during time that the Civil War was at it's height. Perhaps that fact that I was led to watch this movie now and I happen to be living in Kentucky, which was a border state during the Civil War and fell under Union control, is a message to all of us that in order for us to reconcile the sins of the past that continues in the present, such as the hatred that is part of the legacy of racism, we must somehow return to love. Thank you for posting this beautiful movie. I have saved it in my history so that I can watch it again.

This Masterpiece does Justice to the Legacy of "One Step Beyond" with a surreal supernatural storyline, masterfully brought to the screen with heart and soulful acting that make it believable.

When I can stop crying- longing- remembering my own true love, maybe I can write a more helpful comment...here I am, at 72, & just realized I'm still a romantic sentimentalist after all...anyway what could I possibly say about a story-movie so powerfully engaging as this gem. The power of Love-Hope-Thoughts transcends universal physics including time...

There was a Twilight Zone episode “Next Stop Willoughby” about a man who time travelled back in time. Loved both episodes. Thank you.

I thought of that episode, too, when I saw this. It is one of my favorites. That one and the one where a man travelled back in time and tried to save Lincoln.
