interesting unit, but ultimately I think just too darn heavy for RVing. Lifting 100# in and out of the truck...hmmmm? Not on a regular basis... I do love the idea of alternate power sources though. We do carry a small jackery 500 with us... Runs a CPAP for 3 nights with room to spare. And for back up I love the F150 Powerboost with the 7.2Kw set up. That will power our trailer for a week or more on a single tank of gas. If we are off grid usually we depend on our solar panels, but if weather is cloudy for a few days, that Powerboost is a great back up..or if we need AC, as my small solar system won't run that. Hopefully Ford is smart enough to add this system to the Super Duty. great review.

Looks like an interesting option for home backup (smaller and more affordable than your average whole-home generator) and also an interesting option for boondocking. I wonder how many days you could boondock with it if you don’t use your A/C…. Thanks for sharing another alternative power option :-)

Yes! Definitely a smaller/more affordable option for home backup. And it can be recharged using solar panels, which really helps if you’re in an area experiencing fuel shortages due to a natural disaster, etc.

@jpatrickmoore51582 ай бұрын
Divide the watt hours by the wattage of your refrigerator to get a basic idea... to get a more refined idea, check your refrigerator to see the actual wattage used, both with and without the compressor running, as well as the typical time with the compressor running and the time without the compressor running.

Hi Guys, If you intend to buy an electric Ford truck with extended towing range you could add two new 5000w Jackery in the back of your truck which will give you a peace of mind regarding traveling distance. In Canada with one transfer switch they sell for 10k. On the other hand you could any brand which gave you what you need. I am an electrical engineer and I am looking for a solution to extend the range of an electric truck. The only issue is that a new diesel truck is less expensive than an electric truck. You do a good job with your videos. Stay healthy and many trips(years) to enjoy

The problem nobody ever mentions with these types of battery generators is that 90% of them will either be obsolete or simply no longer work in 10 years. My Honda gas genny is 15 years old and runs like a champ. Does it have USB plugs and a fancy screen? Nope! Does it produce electricity? Yes!
@irvingdog012 ай бұрын
Absolutely not correct. If you’re talking about number of full capacity recharges, it diminishes capacity, usually by 10-15%, but is far from obsolete. Far. Gas generators still pose limitations (and outright exclusions), so, this is indeed a viable option.
@rebellucy62002 ай бұрын
Simply google the lifespan of a lithium or LiPo battery.
@LongLongHoneymoon2 ай бұрын
These battery cells are provided by CATL and are said to have 6000 recharge cycles and last up to 20 years. I do get your point, but I do not view these units as a substitute for a gasoline or propane generator. Ideally, it is best to have both. The nice thing about these devices is that with solar panels you can in theory get your fuel from the sun. If we find ourselves in a situation where the grid goes down, fossil fuels may also become scarce. Gasoline tends to fail over time thanks to ethanol. So the best case scenario would be to have a propane powered generator with a large supply of propane, and also a solar set up with a powerful unit like this one at the heart of it. I realize it is a luxury, but for many people, it will be an investment in peace of mind. And of course, for the hard-core Boondocking campers, it can be a very helpful solution.

Sorry to hear that! Yes, ideally, you would want to pair this unit with several solar panels. That is my long-term plan for our home. Of course, I also think it is good to have a fossil fuel burning generator to work in concert with a device such as this one.

@LongLongHoneymoon2 ай бұрын
Thanks, but we are still using our same old trailer! However, we did have the trailer coded with ceramic glass a couple of years ago at Vinnie’s North Bay Airstream repair and that really made a huge difference to the appearance. Really we left Vinnie’s with the trailer looking brand new once again. The difference with the ceramic is incredible.

I'm not familiar with the Mango product, looks/sounds like a good product, nice video! Are you still affiliated with Jackery, and how long have you actually tested the Mango power station?
@jjones54242 ай бұрын
Question: since it is not "weatherproof", what would you do if camping in the rain, or maybe worried about theft, and you bring it in your Airstream.....how do you plug your 30 amp shore plug into it, since the power station is now inside??
@LongLongHoneymoon2 ай бұрын
I think the best case scenario would be to rig up a place inside the trailer to store the unit, and run the 30 amp into it there. Now to be fair, I have not seen anyone do this yet, it would require some electrical rewiring, or at least some reconfiguring so that the 30 amp cord could be extended from its storage spot to the interior of the trailer. We might be talking about custom cabinetry. An easier alternative I suppose would be to store the unit in the bed of a pick up truck beneath a bed topper. We thought about getting a bed topper on the back of our truck just to add the additional storage space. But with regards to this unit, it has a quite similar functionality to the Victron and Battle Born solution we have installed in our trailer. The nice thing with our install is that it is seamless and out of sight and automatically recharged by our solar panels. I’m not saying this is the exact equivalent by any means, but it has very similar functionality for a lower price and can be taken to a brick and mortar house when you’re done camping.
@LongLongHoneymoon2 ай бұрын
I wonder if someone could install a 30 amp splitter so that you effectively have two 30 amp cords, one for use outside the trailer, and a second to use inside the trailer? I do concede that we airstreamers are constrained in terms of interior space. With that said, I’ve seen some people come up with very creative solutions to Airstream storage, for example, even managing to install dishwashers and washer/dryer combo units. Anything is possible with some creativity.

Good grief, what kind of electric electricity is required to start your diesel heater? Typically they require 10 A or less.
@gregorypoulos85962 ай бұрын
Wrong, diesel heaters require 12 amps or more at 12 volts. Most solar generators do Not supply this amount of DC. If you are willing to turn on the 3000 watt AC inverter and plug in a 12 volt 20 amp converter, It can be done! Lol No Thanks. I Still Love You Guys, Been Watching You Since The Smoke Signal Days!

What type and chemistry battery are they using? Jackery discovered that their lithium battery had a cycle life deficiency and switched to lithium iron phosphate batteries to become competitive in the market place. Is Mango starting off with the right battery as Bluetti and Anker did? Also, does Mango protrect against charging below twenty-eight degrees F? If this is attempted, all charging is over for that battery?

@LongLongHoneymoon2 ай бұрын
It definitely is not cheap. With that being said, a full solar install like we have on our Airstream cost $16,000. That would be with 600 W of solar panels and four big lithium batteries and a 3001 inverter. It’s not an apples to apples comparison, but if you price these products against other competing products in this category, I think they are priced similarly. Someone here in the comments posted that a person could build a system for less money privately, and I’m sure that is true, but again it is not exactly an apples to apples comparison. Some people want to buy a turkey solution, and the portability of this is appealing. Personally, I am just preparing for the zombie apocalypse.

Obscene cost. I know you're trying to make money but it's really ridiculous for RVers to market things that cost an obscene amount of money to people. You could build one of these yourself for a fraction of the cost.
@LongLongHoneymoon2 ай бұрын
Well, the cost is relative . The solar package on our Airstream has a market value of around $16,000.. This is much cheaper and portable. And if you compare this cost to other systems from other companies, the cost is competitive. Yes, I’m sure if you are mechanically inclined, you can build something yourself for less money, but at the cost of your time and labor. There are a lot of people who would rather just purchase a turnkey solution. And something else I have learned about RV owners, cost is totally relative. Many people would look at our 20 year-old travel trailer as a cheap small unit that they would not even consider owning. They would rather be in a large fifth wheel or motorhome. Other people would look at our 20 year old Airstream and think it is a beautiful travel trailer. Some people think or 17-year-old truck is a piece of junk. Other people think it is a fine tow vehicle. Go figure! 😜
