I love watching Natasha. I can barely get the lesson horse to canter, let alone go all the way around the arena. Good news is it is easier for me to canter from a walk. My dream is to do one tempis. You make it look so easy!

She is stunning. I'm still trying to get my canter down! It's more controlling the speed of my canter I have trouble with. Love your vidoes x

I’ve noticed more and more by not watching riders do changes whether they are 3 x, 2 x Or Tempi changes, That they are really twisting/contorting their upper body and giving the outside leg aid by bending the knee and bringing the heel backing up really far. I was wondering your thoughts on why they do that if the horses they ride are so athletic and well trained. Is it The riders personal biomechanics and position that is stiff and incorrect and are they just trying to over do the aid to make sure the horse gets the change correctly in front of the judge in competition? I have learned from several instructors to make sure that you use your leg from your seat or from your hip joint and one tip was to make sure that your heel stays down with your ankle relaxed and to think or keep in mind that if someone is standing behind you that they should not be able to see the sole of your boot.

Hey Kathy, Good observation. I believe it's a combination of a few things. Some of it is balance, horses with big gaits are harder to sit quietly on. And some of it is that the horse might not be as sensitive to the quiet aids, so the rider has to be bigger with their aid to get the job done in the show ring, and then also like you said, the rider might not be as strong/supple in their body to be quieter in their aids :)

I am showing GP Twos are perfect. Sometimes I can get ones and sometimes I can’t. I have gotten 15 one time a year ago. I know it’s me. My timing

It appears in the one tempis, you're asking with the inside leg behind the girth. Am I correct?

Pretty sure there is no rule against losing your stirrups strategically in a test.

No rule for sure- but as I said, I use the no stirrup work as a way to help my position during training and schooling. :)
