Some things that I would love to see in a Super Mario Maker 2: - Nipper plants (those white plants in SMB3 that hop around) - Water or Lava tiles you can place. - SMB2 theme. Which comes with being able to charge a jump by ducking, picking up objects and enemies, the flagpole replaced with a bird mouth, all the (mini) bosses from the game, Phanto and everything else that made the game unique. - Slopes >:(

nintendo has a bad habit of extreme censorship. in mario maker there's a parrot sound effect that lets you record your voice that doesn't work after you upload it, barring playing a generic bird noise. while i can understand why they do this - edgy 14 year olds could abuse it to draw genitals or spam profanity/slurs - it's a rather unfortunate pattern that might make a message block either unusably restrictive or outright impossible

Two state blocks would be great, provided we get the ability to make games - i.e. link levels together somehow, with some levels being able to have two exits to access secret levels such as P-Switch palaces - rather than just levels.

Even having two-state blocks within a level would open up a lot of design space! The closest we get right now is P-switches, which has a lot of limitations.

Gizensha Fox it doesn’t necessarily have to be between levels, it could just be in one level. I.E having a gap that can’t be crossed until you press the switch. Although I guess could do that with a normal P switch, but you get the idea.

it'd be useful without that, but I think in general being able to create 'worlds' if not entire games would add a huge amount to things regardless. How about say, a single 'world' as you would get in many of the games? Give it a limit of say 16 stages total, with a switch palace and secret stages being options, and an overworld map to go with it... There would be some interesting things you could do with a sequence of levels explicitly designed to be connected that the current model of random levels just can't replicate...

Personally, for New Super Mario Bros 2, I would've gone with Boolosus. If you don't remember it, it's the gigantic boo that chases you in certain ghost houses unless you look towards it. However, it should still retain the function of still moving a small amount while being looked at.

Ethan Hawksley I would actually argue that Boolosus (or Boohemoth as his actual name is, it's been a while since I saw its name) has enough unique mechanics to warant being seperate from autoscrolling. If it introduces Boohemoth, it could also introduce some kind of giant light switch to temporarally make it go away. (Plus, the boos are my favourite enemy in the series so I think they need more representation)

There is a Mario 1 mechanic that's missing from Mario maker that I thought you were going to mention: the conditional looping castle effect. In the 4-4 and 7-4 castles if you take the wrong path, the game quietly loops the screen to an earlier part of the level.

I could live without Night, Ghost Ship and Factory, because they have gameplay that's little to no different from the one of other themes. Each of the others could have something unique to it though: - Beach: There comes our long-wanted not-full-height water! - Desert: Obviously lots of quicksand. - Jungle: Many Jungle levels feature a Poison bottom. It's deadly to Mario, but unlike lava it doesn't harm enemies. - Ice: This one is a bit tricky, since slippery ice blocks are present in all themes. However, why not up the contrast with a higher-than-normal-friction snow-covered terrain? - Space: This one could be the coolest one of all themes, with reduced gravity like in the Space/Asteroids themed Newer levels. - Volcano: Again a bit tricky, since lava is already featured by the Castle theme. However, remember the lava waves from NSMBW 8-3? Although you can replicate them with Firebars, it still isn't the same thing as it doesn't insta-kill. Plus, those stretch throughout the entire level, and if I'm not mistaken firebars count towards the sprite limit, so that's another issue. Also, if I'm not totally mistaken, firebar alignment depends on loading, so it only works properly with autoscroll or similar. Long story short, actual lava waves are definitely superior and should be the main feature for Volcano themed levels. - Volcano Exterior: Yes, that should be a standalone theme. Because, as I think about it, rising and falling lava is a thing too, I'm not sure if that can be replicated at all, except with munchers on tracks which again start misaligning no matter what you do, and devour the sprite limit, and are a massive hindrance at placing any other hazards that would attach to tracks. That's why we actually would need 2 different Volcano themes (unless multiple possible characteristics per theme becomes a thing), and the feature selection actually sort of does fit an Interior/Exterior split. I must admit though, the other themes do have their right to exist, even though the only thing they change is the atmosphere. We have Cave and Ghost House, which have the Overworld gameplay too. They're not the ultimate mandatory thing though, if I had to choose all but 3 these would be the ones to leave out. Here the Ghost Ship theme stands out, because its gameplay atmosphere combination isn't replicable. There's basically 2 types of factories in the Nintendo universe: Creepy ones, which can be replicated with Ghost Houses, and menacing ones, where either Castle or Airship works, if necessary combined with a Boss music event. It's not perfect, but it works. Pretty much the same goes for Night (although it's a bit more of a stretch), where dark and creepy Night themes can be mimicked with very open Ghost Houses and the positive-mystical kind of Night levels sort of works with very open Cave levels. What actually comes even closer to the creepy kind of Night levels, are Graveyard levels, which I personally would prefer over a Night theme. (Just realized that by Night you probably mean a Ghost Land theme like the first half of NSMB1 World 8. Which Graveyard levels are literally an enhanced version of, so that point still stands.) What I'd really like also, is a new music event that, when used, changes the music to another music for the same theme. For example, in the Cave theme, that event would cause another Cave music with a more mystical touch, say, YI Cave for SMW Cave or NSMB1 Castle for NSMBU Castle. Of course, the new themes wouldn't be forgotten. Actually, if that event could do more than just change music, that would be an easy way to implement 2 different Volcano features in a single theme.

+ehx The clown car is awkward to control, whereas the submarine and plane go exactly where you tell them to. You can blast your way through a brick wall and thread through the hole you made without tripping a pixel and bouncing in crazy directions. A shmup section would probably need some new enemies designed for that kind of autoscrolling gameplay though.

It isn't called SMW2 in japan, where the game originated. That was added in the West because Nintendo of America assumed people wouldn't want to play as some random dinosaur unless the connection to the main Mario series was made more obvious.

Multiplayer mode would be super difficult to make. Also, you could make levels that are only possible in multiplayer mode, and you can't play them by yourself.

I think programming-wise it wouldnt be too difficult, and of course, levels would have to be tagged for the number of allowed players (and creators would have to beat their levels in every possible constelation, that is if he thinks that the level is suitable for 2-4 players,he would have to beat it with 2, 3 and 4 players separately)

I caught this in recommended videos today, with knowledge of the many additions in Mario Maker 2, and Nintendo said "Hold my beer". Night Theme? In! Poison Mushrooms? In! Wind effect? In! More characters (and multiplayer)? In! Vertical levels? In! Angry Sun? In! More powerups? In! Crazy vehicles? At least a car! Grates? In! Two state blocks? In! And slopes too! Other settings like giant land? In! (I think.) Also falling icicles in SML2, in! Weight shifting platforms? In! Mini Goomba? In! On-Off Switches? In! More and varied bosses? In! It's really cool how basically this entire wishlist, if not the entire thing since I'm not 100% on every SMM2 feature, is in. Basically all of it, and then some. I did kind of fudge it on the "vehicles" since it's only a car in the new theme, but hey, we already had fire shooting clown cars similar to the requested submarines!

Some more thangs: Like you said: more koopaling ideas... But just more bosses in general! Way more power ups! Tool to connect blocks to create slopes Eg: Block 2 Line in between to connect Block 1 Custom enimies: merging enimies and even blocks like the coin enimies where it looks like a coin block and the flying parana plant and even mega/mini blocks + entities Star coins! Objective levels would be cool: so if I wanted a level where you have to kill a max 100 enimies, I know you can probably do that already but to choose while making the level is preet easy and saves LOADS of time! Paint blocks: being able to paint a block, name and save it would ba amazing. If I wanted to make a spike block painted as fire for a more interesting level! Finaly... MULTILAYER! Thank you ceave for your amazing content I love your vids. Other things I would want that I can think of that weren't in the video: But now, I wonder if some of these will get into Super Mario Maker 2! Fire, Boomarang, and Ice Bros, Spike Helmets. Blue Shell power up. Ice Flower. Wall blocks (The blocks that, after being ran on and when next to another wall, allow Mario to run on walls and the celling.) Everything able to used in all game styles. Cappy, F.L.U.D.D., and Poltergust power ups. More mystery mushroom outfits. The weird mushroom to be removed. Mouser. Grass (Like the ones in Super Mario Bros 2 where you can get something to throw like a turnip at enemies.) Urchins. Boom Boom. Other iconic bosses like King Boo and King Bom-omb. Spin. Smash Ball. The ability to play as characters after unlpcking them without the mystery mushroom. Luigi arm. Rexs. Spikes (The enemies) Pokies Leave ideas so I can add them!

Like SMW2: Yoshi's Island, it's not considered a mainline 2D Mario platforming game. And it'd be hard to choose one thing, since almost everything is different from the main series of games.

Wario land... not MARIO land they just did that because they were experimenting with Wario (new character at the time) and they still wanted to sell it without putting people off with a non mario game, that’s why later instalments got rid of the subtitle because it sold well... You cant claim its not a mainline mario game since 1. It is super mario land 3, and 2. You include new super luigi bros. You also include super mario bros, 2, so Id strongly argue this, and yoshi's island are both mainline 2D mario games.

beebajazz Luigi is a mario brother, wario isn’t a Mario brother and neither is yoshi plus both games play different to the mainline games with almost none of the mechanics aside from the basic platformer move set and some characters and other little things, they were merely titled smw2 and sml3 just to make people more intrigued and to make the game sell better
