When asked what you should never do with sawdust, I answered (Throw it in someone's eyes) My brother did that to me as a kid and it messed up my vision for a while.

Breathing it, that's something you want to avoid, even though it generally smells wonderful. You can get pneumonitis.Not good. It put an acquaintance in the hospital after she made and sanded a bunch of items from recycled barnwood. Wear a P100 respirator.

Just watch out with Walnut sawdust, it supposedly isn't good for horses. We generate a lot of sawdust where I work and I collected about 3 cubic yards to add to soil a little at a time or mostly to compost. I don't use the sawdust that contains significant amounts of other materials like MDF and laminate materials, or Corian solid surface material, so I inspect the bags for what wood was used recently.

what about saw dust from plywood being that an epoxy is used to bond the wood together ?

It's a good idea to minimize the the epoxy, glues and plastics introduced into natural elements... but, impossible to avoid. Dust collected from treated lumber, micro-lams, osb and plywood I do not compost... that goes to the waste bin.

I was wondering what saw dust can be used for.Been driving through the streets of an industrial area,and so many bags of saw dust left out on the nature strips,now i will pick them up,huge bags too.

Best to make sure you know the contains completely before taking... but, if it's clean saw dust and you have uses for it... score!

Hi. I though that outing the sawdust directly to your soil, would damage it. I have an are where I let the sawdust blow when I use the planer . I planted tomatoes there for the first time and the leafs look terrible and is not producing much frui. Any advice? Thank you.

Yes… it’s better if you compost it for a year… less draw on nitrogen. Cheers!

thank you, it's a shame that the cult-ure has us seeing everything as trash, I look to find the way it can still be treasured and it has created an abundance for me that is like a blessing. I've built nearly 1000 feet of hugel mound and terrace in the desert to create oasis using other people's trash that they deliver to me.

another thing you should never do with saw dust is work with it while not wearing some sort of N95 or better mask like this guy. that stuff gets everywhere and is bad for lungs.
