Saw your first video and got myself a timberman! But it was defective, the bit chipped severely on fresh pine, so I ordered a Tuatahi camp axe as a replacement. Hopefully it doesn’t disappoint!
@kurts642 жыл бұрын
Gday mate, thanks for watching! Sorry to hear about your timberman, do you mind telling me a bit about it? Did you buy it new, how was it ground etc? Pretty unusual for a Keech to chip badly, but I have seen some that, like mine, had a few casting voids along the very edge. Is there a chance that some minor edge damage exposed a void? The tui camp axe is a little beast!
@ismailbayar29752 жыл бұрын
@@kurts64 it was brand new, cleaned up the cheeks and had my local axe guy grind the edge. It had a lot of voids in it as well, but he ground it back enough to remove them. He put a 28 degree bevel on it because of it being soft and didn’t know how it would hold up. Tested it on some softwood and dead centre on the edge there was a noticeable chip, I don’t even want to know what would’ve happened on hardwood. It’s a shame but the tui will be great!

@@thcolonyest any of those will serve you well. If your looking at vintage tassies, be sure the poll isn't damaged and the bits not too worn. I have a new hb agdor sitting in the shed awaiting a handle transplant, I'm not a fan of the 32 either. Hults Bruk/Hultafors does a replacement 30 inch handle that slots straight in, might be worth looking at. A new Helko is a viable option too. Hoping to get a build/comparison vid together soon.
