Nick and Mike sat down for an in-depth discussion of what it would take for Ukraine to achieve a true breakthrough against Russian forces. Mike also evaluated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s recent visit to Washington, D.C., Ukraine’s strike on Russia's Black Sea Fleet headquarters and the potential impact of ATACMS.

Optimism is not a good military strategy.

The Ukrainians aren't massing more forces because it would only work against them. More forces on the zero line is just going to create more casualties. It's not going to clear the tree lines and trenches any faster. There are only so many paths through the minefields, so shoving more men into those paths is only going to make them more valuable targets for artillery and will stress their logistics and medical recovery efforts further.

With the attrition the ukranians are taking taking these villages of 100 residents like rabotyne and the Russians bringing online new weapons (glide bombs, 100km Lancet drones for counter battery) I think the opposite is true

Except that Russian losses are greater even on defense, Ukrainians have way more drones and better trained crews.

Sadly Ukrainian offensive did not turn out as we expected/wanted, but the future is in Ukrainian side. Further the war goes, better Ukrainian army becomes while Russians will deteriorate to not being able to sustain this war.

@@Atalaclys I mean. Take 5 mins to check GDP of Russia and combined NATO countries. I don't think you need anything else to prove my point. Russia lost strategically when they failed to take Kyiv in 2 weeks.

@@konfunable GDP doesnt translate to military capability as if by a miracle and said NATO countries dont seem to be ramping up production to a sufficient pace. You know, you can't build a major ammo factory within a few weeks or months, right? Besides, before looking at respective GDPs, look at ukrainian vs Russian populations.. As for strategic defeats, sure, Moscow viewed this a regime change operation and failed but they are still in control of a much bigger part of Ukraine than before and effective landlocked the ukrainians. Azov sea entirely russian, ukrainian military took an equally big blow etc...

@@Atalaclys You can mirror your comment. Russians in the 90s closed all but one heavy ammunition factories. And they are not going to bring any of these factories back to work because all the machinery was WW2 stolen from Germany. They can't build machining tools. They are going out of soviet stocks and they can't produce more. The only survival option for the Russians is China, but China itself is in dire economic situation, so not happening. This war is determined. The only danger is that Ukrainias exhaust their human resources but so far according the worst estimates, they have 200-300 thousand wounded and killed after 1,5 years of fighting in a country of 40 mil. So Ukrainians still have a lot of human resources and Russians have no morale, have to defend the largest land area in the world and maintain their own industrial capabilities, while Ukraine can be supplied from outside. So their resources are not that bigger. Russia is doomed in either way.
