Y’all have to remember. Marlene knows Joel thought of Ellie as cargo. He didn’t even want to take her. So it makes sense where they kept him. In her mind she was like ok he’ll wake up. I will pay him and he will ride out. That’s why she’s not really making smart choices. Even just kicking him to the curb she’s just thinking ok so maybe now he has a problem cuz she’s a kid but in the end he’s gonna pick his own survival over anything or anyone except maybe Tess and Ellie isn’t Tess. Given everything we as lay people now know about pandemics and vaccines, it's unlikely one doctor would have single-handedly developed a working vaccine from Ellie, and even if he had, the means of mass production and distribution don't exist in the world they live in. I have not played the game so there's a couple of things that I think about here that maybe will be revealed next season!! One thing is remember the conversation that Marlene had with Ellie when Ellie was still in captivity, it was either episode one or two and we don't get to hear what Marlene tells Ellie that she says can never be repeated to anyone!! Perhaps it was that bit of information that has Marlene convinced that Ellie would have no problem sacrificing herself!! We don't know what that information was, what kind of led to believe that it was only the fact that she's immune!! But maybe she was actually telling her what is going to happen when they finally do try to get the cure!! It's really hard not to side with Joel and what he did to get Ellie safe again!! Let's remember that he just spent the last couple of days at least trying to break down Ellie's trauma wall and really talking more than Joel has talked throughout the entire series!! And then when Ellie says "when this is all over I'll follow you anywhere you go!!" That's certainly implies that Ellie felt she would survive helping humanity and go on to live her life!! So then when Joel is faced with the fact that they are going to kill Ellie and he will never see her again and he will lose another "daughter", he basically goes John wick and I would have done exactly the same thing if I could! Of course I am not as bad ass as Joel 😁

All they had to do is lock him up. At least try to save some lives. You guys are some of the only ones to question the fireflies this much though so thank you. As a whole, they acted with almost no intelligence. Joel was wrong but it also wasn't entirely his fault. They literally opened every door for him and then provoked him to start his rampage. Also in terms of the show being rich, the game was definitely better. Spending so much time with Joel and Ellie just walking around was ultimately a mistake. Talk about a morally ambiguous ending. On one hand, I get it. Humanity took away what mattered most to Joel and after finding something that close in Ellie again, he wasn't going to let it happen again. I don't know what it's like to be a a father but I would like that someday and having to put myself in Joel's shoes, I'd probably do the same? Not to mention, the Fireflies weren’t giving her much of a choice in the matter. But then again, neither was Joel. It was still a…..selflessly selfish choice that not only doomed the entire world but robbed Ellie of whatever hope she had left for it as well as the choice to choose. It might be refreshing to some people, seeing them finally be together in this "new beginning" but keep this in mind: it's based on a lie.
@kotabear6556
@kotabear6556 Жыл бұрын
So can you honestly say that even if they gave Ellie a choice if she said no.. and you were a firefly and the one chance to save everyone was just about to hop skip back to the mountains and probably die and never be able to save the shit world you are stuck in would you just let her go? I honestly cant say myself what I'd do. I Feel the reason it's hard for us is because we are invested in this character. Which I think is why this is peak story telling. It shows you just how much good and bad someone can be made to do for love. A lot of people like to think that love is pure good but both villains and heroes actions can be justified by love. And this particularly is a parents love. The same mother who lied about cutting the cord before being bit loved just as hard as the best friend willing to sacrifice practically her niece for the greater good as well as the adopted step father willing to slaughter an entire armed outpost and doctors trying to save the world.. and love is the root of it all.

Honestly I think they can make Bella Ramsey work fine for part II. You have to realize that even considering her youngish appearance, they still needed to implement some significant measures to make sure she could play a 14 year old. From the makeup to making her wear a binder, they did a lot, so it’s safe to say that removing those measures will noticeably age her up.

Humans were still gonna be assholes whether they had the cure or not. It probably would've made them even worse, especially the ones holding the vaccine if it was a working one. Humans would have not changed, it would not have been all Kumbaja if everyone was cured, It really all depends on your personal perspective. The creators of the show even stated unconditional love although beautiful can be a very dangerous thing for anybody, it can make people do very wild things. Is it worth sacrificing kids for a chance to find a cure? Eventually kids will be born immune so I just think it’s better to leave them be. There’s no guarantee Ellie will be enough anyway so once they extract the samples from her, what’s stopping them from hunting down more kids and doing the same?

Joel was right in his decision even if he didn’t know it himself, the surgeons/doctors they were using were medical school dropouts and to this day there is no vaccine or cure to any type of fungal infection like Cordyceps, if we can’t do it whos to say a medical school dropout could, also even if they did make a cure they’d probably lose it or become stingy with it and only give it out to certain ppl, the Fireflies in the game were prone to overtaking a QZ then losing control pretty easily so u can’t really trust them. So knowing all if this I think Joel did what he needed to do, they were willing to kill their “only hope” that also happens to be a child over something that has no possibility of actually working 🤷🏽‍♀️

So it's hard to honestly say that even if they gave Ellie a choice if she said no.. and i were a firefly and the one chance to save everyone was just about to hop skip back to the mountains and probably die and never be able to save the shit world you are stuck in would any of us just let her go?

I have not played the game but I know one thing Joel is a killing machine! I also thought the episode was short! But I'm lost because if this is the end of their quest then the world will slowly die! Ellie is the one hope left in this world of darkness! Also the lady that played Ellie mother is she the voice actor for one of the characters in Vox Machina?! I also didn't understand why the doctors would go straight to killing Ellie! They don't know if that experiment will work and any sane doctor would never just kill Ellie she is too important!! I would think they would run test first but to kill her made no sense to me! Ellie is too important!! Good episode but I'm sure that Ellie knows that Joel is lying! I think the fire flys or the government will still come after Ellie because she is mankind's only hope!!

After ten years, and as a fan of the Original game, I believe that even if Ellie does agree with it or give consent, Joel would still do what he did. Remember that heartwarming moment in the sequel before Joel died, he said "If the Lord would give me one more chance I would do it all again" he said this after learning that Ellie did want her life to matter, she wanted to go through with it. I mean, Ellie was going to do it regardless, and Joel knows this, that what he lied to her. It may seem like a touching moment but it's a hint that Joel didn't care what Ellie chose that day, he was leaving with her regardless of her choice because Joel is too consumed with his grief.

Fun fact: Ellie’s mom is played by Ashley Johnson, the original Ellie from the game. Cool how Game Ellie gave birth to Show Ellie. Joel has shown us all that he is Him. Mans was on demon time mowing people down in that hospital. He was so cold and efficient in killing all those people. Back before the game came out 50% of play testers hated the ending and thought Joel was a monster, whereas all of the testers with kids supported Joel’s decision. So happy that Naughty Dog stuck to their guns and didn’t change this ending to a safer, more morally feel good ending. People still discuss this ending to this day.

Medicine DOESN'T work with hypothesis that would kill their test patients tho, they work with trial and error and almost always animals are the ones tested first. The procedure they wanted to do on Ellie would for sure end her life and if they were wrong, that's it. That's was your only shot and humanity is fucked either way. There's a series of other options they could've exhausted and recurred to first: blood, bone marrow, tissue. You try everything before pulling the plug on a healthy inocent kid, and if thats the only way, you at least let her know what'sthe price for her life: saving everyone else. MEDICALLY, that would be the ethical thing to do. The world survived 20 years, it would survive for a few more weeks of tests and exams.

@Julian Barragan Yes, I do actually, because even if she had taken samples of Ellie's blood and bone marrow in that simple house they were at back in Boston, those samples would never be viable for tests by the time they got to their prior base in Wyoming or the one they moved into, to their doctors that could actually run ALL the tests. They were fighting Joel for a shitty battery in episode 1, they simply didn't had the resources to transport those samples the correct way. And the short hours Joel was asleep after they knocked him out and got their hands on her definitely weren't enough for them to run any sort of conclusive tests.

"The hardest of choices, requires the strongest of wills" I feel bad for Marlene. She made the hard decision, and despite Joel's rampage she still tried to reason with him instead of straight up just ending him and getting Ellie back. The chance of a cure isn't guaranteed but a chance is enough to risk it, plus it's what Ellie would have wanted, that's why SPOILER... she was angry with Joel in the sequel and that's why Joel hid the truth from her the entire time.

The fireflies were about to kill the one and only immune specimen in 20 years after their very first encounter with her based on a doctor's hunch. No exhausting other options first like blood, bone marrow or tissue, no studies just the sake of studying how the fungus behaves in her body and if they can replicate that...just stray up drugging her after the attack and taking her to surgery. If they were wrong (and they most likely were) and she died, they wouldn't be able to preserve her brain and body forever. And mariene however you spell her name fucked it all up, she just immediately sentenced ellie to death on a whim. doctors also sentenced ellie to death, by proceeding with surgery prep. on what by running what a single test? Yes episode should've been longer but that was under cut by marienes decision and then essentially throwing joel out, there was no give them no time bc joel himself wasn't given time aside from when they knocked him out to waking up and hearing oh yeah we're gonna kill ellie, she has to die, and harvest every bit of her, no you can't see/say good bye. kill him if he resists. like nah.
