Alex, since you asked "Which type of Zombies are scarier?" I can honestly say that the Cordyceps Zombies are scarier because when you are infected there is quite a bit of evidence to suggest that your mind is still active inside of you but the rest of your body is under the control of the Fungus. In the game you come across infected weeping alone in dark buildings incapable of ending their own lives because the fungus won't let them. At least with traditional undead zombies they kill you and your lifeless corpse stans up to kill people without the mind inside.
@josedamiani339 Жыл бұрын
Came here to say this, you said it better. This is the right answer.
@acslater017 Жыл бұрын
When they first made the game, scientists guessed that the fungus somehow infested the brain or controlled it chemically (as the Episode 1 cold open suggests). More recent studies have shown that, at least in ants, the fungus is actually present everywhere *except* the brain! The fungus grows in between and controls the muscles directly 😨So presumably the victim’s mind is completely untouched.
@hayderneamah1323 Жыл бұрын
That's why we don't call them zombies they're not the living dead . it's an important distinction never in the game they called dead or zombies and the first episode interview he says it doesn't let you die.

Tess didn't let it happen. They clearly stated in the episode that the fungus share a connection. At the end the camera focuses on the fact that she is losing control by showing her hands shaking. Tess was still "trapped inside" like they mentioned in the 1968 clip. Her lighting the lighter was the last bit of fight that she had.
@bovineking8927 Жыл бұрын
Also she was trying to make as little noise/direct confrontation as possible. The one thing that mattered for her at that point was the lighter.
@JamesandCatsu Жыл бұрын
I think her hands were shaking due to fear, it's way too quick/early for the fungus to be taking control of her already. Fear of what is happening, what is about to happen, and fear of the end. She's letting it happen because to resist makes the fungus zombies violent, and she can't fight back while trying to light the lighter. She was only able to light the lighter because the fungus didn't view her as a threat and could calmly infect her. Powerful shit man and fucking terrifying.

@@iH82H8 Very good point. I don't think they ever tell us exactly how long it takes to "transform" other than Ellie or Tess saying "no one survives more than a few hours" or something along the lines. "I wonder if we're going to get her backstory; I wonder what happened to her mom...." Ohhh, maaaaaan..... 😬🥺😭 Tess didn't "let" the Infected guy do anything. The reason Tess' hand shook so badly, and she struggled so much with the lighter, is that the fungus was spreading inside of her. The cordyceps was already mostly in control of Tess, and it had no reason to want to avoid an additional cluster of fungus inside of her -- quite the contrary. Geting that lighter lit was the last thing Tess had any control over; it was, *literally* , her last act in control of her own body. Episode 3 is sad, but also beautiful. Bill and Frank won the apocalypse -- they spent their lives together, and died on their own terms.

In a situation like this, where Bill loots a bunch of the stores, he is fairly ahead of the game on a knowledge level. Most people think in terms of finding food, water, shelter, etc.... but I say libraries would be just as important to hit up if you can find one. Knowledge on how to prepare and store food without refrigeration, how to purify water, and a ton of other life skills the average person may not have. I don't know about anyone else, but instructional materials like this would be high on my list of necessities for long term survival.

Love your reactions. Sub’d. However you cut out a very important part of episode 3. The letter to Joel is so deep and meaningful. That needs to be read completely. The letter is the entire reason for this episode. A reason to live in this horrible world and “God help any MFR that gets in our way!”

Fun easter egg, in episode 1 Joel and his daughter don't have pancakes, don't eat the biscuits, forget to grab the cake, don't eat the cookies. Infection spread to grains and people likely got infected from eating those grains.

Recently, there has been some video game adaptations that have been soooooo good. I would recommend watching Arcane. It is animated but it is beautiful and an intriguing story. It isn't meant for kids though. It is adapted from material in League of Legends. So far, it is my favorite video game adaptation ever. It beats TLoU for right now.

The slow zoom in on the doctor at the start, the part she is given tea and explaining the situation, creates such a good intensity PS. Don't bother with TWD, 3 episodes of this is already better than 11 seasons of TWD

@@angelo423 He is right though. Some episodes of TWD are pretty good, but in general the show is a big mess. Just read the comic, it is way better. Edit: I am not someone who was a fan of the comic and then unhappy with the adaptation btw. I only read the comic at some point because I was unhappy with the show declining so much and wanted to check out the source material... and after reading the comic was like "How can you fuck that up so much?"

29:40 You've probably read this a couple hundred times by now, so I'll keep this short. Tess couldn't stop what was going to happen. Did you see the poster on the wall of the Boston QZ hospital? We had two posters, one for showing the timetable for full Cordyceps infection and another explaining the symptoms. Timetable for full Cordyceps infection: -bites to the neck, head and face: 5 to 15 minutes -bites to the torso, shoulder, arm and hand: 2 to 8 hours -bites to the leg and foot: 12 to 24 hours Symptoms: -coughing -slurred speech -muscle spasms -mood change We know from the epidemiologist from the cold open that Cordyceps hijack the host's body and it does this by cutting the brain off from control. Cordyceps have a parasitic relationship with its host--the host is kept alive, a prisoner locked away in the brain of a body they no longer have control over. They see, hear, smell and taste everything they do. The Infected are helpless to stop the horrors committed by their hands, and they're forced to watch/hear everything their bodies do. They never feed since the Cordyceps have all that they inside the hosts body--Cordyceps feed on their hosts body, so it probably goes without saying that large hosts can go the distance. Anyway, back to Tess, she had been bitten on collarbone, so the journey to the brain was short and we could already see that she was experience muscle spasms--she likely only had minutes before she was about to turn. Many online assumed she had a bad lighter, but I think she had a hard time flicking her lighter because of her muscle spasms. Tess had to make a choice: use her final moments as herself to save her family or fight the Stalker off (the name of this type of infected) only to later fall in line seconds later and join the rest hunt down the last of her family. Tess wasn't going to do that. She wanted to protect Joel! If it meant being violated by a Stalker, well, that's what she was going to let happen. She focused all of her remaining strength to her hand and finally flicked her lighter correctly, blowing up the museum. And what do you know, Tess saved herself and family in one move. To answer one of your questions early on, you would have been an infected in no time! Your food choices would have done you in ='( 30:00 This isn't a zombie show. Zombies are defined as reanimated corpses. That's not what's happening here in the Last of Us. Cordyceps require a living host, as we saw with the woman on the autopsy table, a dead body is an immobile one. The infected are alive, prisoners in their own bodies ='( 32:05 she found a box of tampons. I imagine that's worth more than gold! 38:40 Ummm, awkward. 41:58 Because that's what you do when you have something to lose. Bill couldn't lose Frank, so he made himself a target and not the house. Still, had Bill taken higher ground like the roof of a neighbor's house, he probably would have been fine too, but he likely didn't have time for that. He had to keep the raiders distracted while his traps warmed up.

Episode 3 is a phenomenal episode and I believe both actors and this episode will be nominated for all kinds of awards next year. They were the ones that really got to live. I was a big fan of Walking Dead. The Whisperers were freaky especially at first. It has characters you can relate to more and no one is really safe. Some of the characters deaths really are awful. It has more social aspects and how different people become leaders. Some seasons weren't as good as others but they come up with really creative ways to kill the zombies.

Coming from someone who played the game and has watched a lot of zombie movies. These are thre scariest “zombies”. Technically they are not dead so they are not rotten, the fungus fixes all of their physical problems so they will always be fast, and they work in groups.

"Bomb." "That doesn't seem like the best idea." It actually was the only one that had a chance of working. They already explained that the infection is very fast, and spreads quickly. It also started in a very large mill that ships internationally, and was almost confirmed by the professor that it's foodborne as well, and 14 other (possibly already infected) employees unaccounted for. Bombing a city of 9 million is extreme, but when its the only chance you have at the moment to potentially save 7 BILLION, it's all you can do. Even then she knew it was a long shot still because they didn't know how long it took to go from infection to symptoms, just that they started a few days ago, and that leaves an indeterminate window of shipping tainted product worldwide.

The Last of Us (Part 1 and 2) are some of my all-time favorite games. So I was beyond skeptical of whether this show would work out. I just didn't think they could convey the same emotional response to this story and these characters, as the game did. Episode 1 erased that skepticism for me. That entire beginning scene with Joel, Tommy and Sarah trying to get out of town was so well done. Most of it shot for shot with the game, with some additional information for the viewers to digest. Nico Parker was such a great choice for Sarah, btw. Her overall portrayal of Sarah and her ability to bring out all the emotions in that death scene, was brilliant. Pedro exuded everything we love about Joel. And now, we have Bella stepping into the shoes of Ellie. She has that same precociousness that we came to love about Ellie, but Bella has made it her own. Although, I won't lie, I did envisioned Kaitlyn Dever playing the part. Nonetheless, it is working. And each episode is bringing familiarity, while at the same time fleshing out storylines and this world beyond the game. Providing the viewer with so much more information than the games gave us. Just as Neil Druckmann & Craig Mazin said, they would stick to the game throughout most of the show, but make changes and/or additions where they could improve upon the game. So far it has paid off, although the gamer part of me is missing some key scenes that I would have loved to have seen played out. I digress though. The show so far has been emotional, well written, a masterclass in cinematography and a truly excellent adaptation. So glad this show is delivering because it is a story that deserves to be seen by people far beyond just the fans of the game.

1- You don't need to watch The Walking Dead. 2- TLOU is not about zombies. 3- This video was the best content I've watched from folks unfamiliar with the story. Looking forward to seeing more of these!
@kingpearlshine Жыл бұрын
Let me say this now so you know going forward. The Walking Dead is about the "WALKING DEAD". The Last of Us is about the last of "US". This is basically just my soapbox speech indicating that one of these shows is about zombies (The Walking Dead), and the other is about the people (The Last of Us). Not to mention, the "zombies" in the last of us aren't dead. Cordyceps keeps the hosts body alive. But glad you're enjoying it! Also, I can't believe you called our girl Tess "Trailer Swift". Lol
@shkacatou Жыл бұрын
The whole point of the title "the Walking Dead" is that (spoilers for S1) everyone is already infected . The characters *are* the Walking Dead, in the " dead man walking" to execution sense. So it is also about "us". Both titles are meant to indicate the ultimate hopelessness of the situation.

For those not in the know, the infected have a whole life cycle that they follow: Runners - Recently infected → Stalker - infected for 2 weeks to a year → Clicker - one year ↴ Bloater - Several Years [Unspecified] → Shambler - Several Years [Unspecified] Every stage has physical traits, as well as different behaviors, so it's easier to tell apart: Runners - Looks human, intense speed, sluggish attacks, and a tendency to attack in hoards Stalkers - Stalks and hides from prey in the dark, attacks at opportune moments, attaches to walls to wait for prey to appear [one that kissed Tess] Clickers- Fungus has spread all across the body, fungus growth has blinded them, uses echolocation to find prey, enhanced strength (Skipping the Bloater and Shambler stages since they work differently in the show then in game)
