Great tip. I showed with someone who’s horse would get sore from the hot, dry footing during quarter hose shows. She would do this at the end of the day. Her horse wasn’t lame. She ended up winning the “all around” at a three day show.

Hi again MATT One of the things I'm so impressed with you for is the time you take with the thinking behind it as to how to keep the horse happy. So simplistic but you cover all the bases to do just that. Daaa if they feel good and they're happy they'll work the best!! Just good old common sense in the details. Thx as always for all you do...

Plantain leaf crushed up a bit or wilted with a bit of hot water would work as well. Easy to find in the rainy season most places. I like the idea of getting horses hardened off to go barefoot combined with Scoot Boots--seems to be more natural and alleviates types of lameness. Also you can cram some packing under there with a piece of paper and then slip on Scoot Boots, even an older worn set. I don't know if Scoot Boots would work on this style of riding, but I heard of good success with heavy duty cross country marathon where even metal flies off. Even if the boots come off, they are not losing a chuck of hoof with it, and they can go barefoot for a while and boots can go back on anytime and not come up lame.

This was super helpful because I have a horse that had laminitus a few years ago and going to shows and standing on the concrete for a while really starts to hurt her feet. Thanks for all these tips, they help a lot!

I LOVE Forschners hoof packing !!! And a good poultice goes a long way as well to relieve soreness as does a hot Bigeloil wash . All old school things ... Just wash the Mud off in the morning ! Good to go ! These horses help us to pay the bills and give us a reason to LIVE .

Donaye Smith. Walker usually 30-45 min. Treadmill is 10-20 depending what kind of shape they are in.

What is that product again, please? I used to put some poultice with eucaliptus in it, but I cannot find it anymore. On another train of thought, how I wish we could take advantage of all the knowledge we gathered on horse behaviour, interaction and respect we learned by now and go back on horses for our day to day life. We'd solve the pollution problem, global warming or whatever is called and, the least but not last, we'd be better persons for only the work and live with animals gives one a full perspective on life.

Ways to keep your horse happy.............don't close stall them; let them be in a herd setting; allow them to graze; no shoes; etc.

What do shoes have to do with horse happiness? 🤔 Some horses are soft soled and need to be shod, many need specific shoes to do their job properly and safely, ext.
