1 year for me too! I love taking naps when I want to, eating only when I want to, not because it's scheduled. I feel stress free, lost weight and am truly happy. Sunday is weird, don't have that stress about going to work on Monday. Most the time I don't know what day of the week it is.

I've been retired for 16 years. And I tell what day of the week it is by looking at my pill box. The people at the VA told me most of their patients do the same. I get up when I'm done sleeping... That there might be the very best part of retirement.

I live near Yuma, Arizona. I retired 6 years ago and the wife got the house, and 1/4 of my pension. I had to sell off everything else I had, downgraded into a park model home, and have more peace in my life than I ever had being married. I started working at a Home Depot and the daily interaction has been excellent. In three years I will be 65 and my insurance will switch over to Medicare. After that, I might retire and move full time to living on the beautiful Colorado River and soak of the peace and tranquility of the desert southwest. Might even get a dog! I retired 2 years ago this month at age 68. I was an ER RN and about to retire in 2020 but Covid hit. I couldn't leave my team in the ER stranded so I cancelled retirement and worked another 2.5 years to help through the crisis. I was an RN through the AIDS era (two vids on my cha nnel Cookie Monster & Family Hospice) but never saw anything like the pandemic in my 42 years as an RN. Insistingly, 100 years prior my grandmother was a nurse during The Spanish Flu, a similar virus that wiped out millions globally. Nice being retired, get up when I wake up, go to bed when sleepy. I'm 70 now and do help out neighbors with their 6 year old daughter who is ventilator dependent at home. Nursing is who you become, not just a career.

Blue collar worker all my life, so no close 'worker friends' to say goodbye to, and that was no problem for me as I still had a wife and son at home and several old high school buddies living close by that kept in touch. The main thing I noticed, was the loss of "identity" ... I was no longer a professional OTR truck driver, no longer doing what I loved and operating large expensive machinery, but now just an unemployed bum. That took me awhile to get used to, until I realized how bad the modern-day drivers and road conditions had become, and then I was glad to be sitting safely at home 95% of the time. Now, with 10 years of retirement under my belt and the knowledge that I have saved and budgeted well enough to carry me through another 30 years if necessary, the feeling of pure freedom is somewhat overwhelming and euphoric. I realize we are all different in mind and body, but I've encouraged many to retire "as early as financially possible" based on my 10 years of spending time with the people who count, and the slogan I preach is ... " money can't buy time ". Thank goodness I'm doing things while I still can ! Thanks for your insightful videos.

Ive been telling folks that Im "full blown" retired, after being semi-retired for so long. After working with the same people for 20 years, even the ones i did not get along with were like family. Researchers at the school of medicine at Florida State University have discovered that elderly people with a full social life actually live longer then people who are reclusive. I was one of the research subjects, and its ongoing till i die. You name it, going fishing with the boys, Wednesday night supper at the church, being involved with others is a healthy habit.

Congratulations on your retirement anniversary! 🎉 I retired January 1st of 2024. I agree with your points. My major adjustment was convincing myself that I don’t need to set daily goals that make me feel like I earned my day off. Now my goals are simply that I want to keep myself mentally and physically active.

You hit the nail on the head with #2. Leaving an entire society of friends with whom you shared everything, in my case for 30 years - is very difficult. I didn't really have expectations that I would stay in touch with my friends (as I was in international work - many of my friends are half the world away.) However, only in retirement did I realize what a huge role these friends played in my life for so many years, and all that evaporated. I have been retired for 6 years - and keep busy with volunteer work that I enjoy. But I miss my former life so much. On the plus side - you are also so right that in retirement you don't have a clock running to get most things done. You realize that most of that stress /pressure in your life was mostly you putting it on yourself. In retirement, I can really say "that's enough for today." That rarely happened in 30+ years of 60 hour weeks.

I’m a retired RN for two and a half years now, and never looked back. I stay in touch with a few people I enjoy talking to by either having them over or meeting up for lunch. I have plenty of hobbies to keep me busy, beekeeping, gardening, exercising and last year my husband built a chicken coop, so now we have 25 chickens to care for! He loves to go in the woods to cut firewood for our wood burning stove and to manage the growth, eliminate invasive, etc. our church is building a new building, so we have been involved with different aspects of that as well. It’s a great time in life! My only complain’t are the aches and pains that I thought would be minimal since I’ve always worked out, but nope, still gotta keep the Tylenol and ibuprofen stocked in the cabinet! 😉

@@subaruamazon well, I do a lot of wood working right now. Pretty good at it, so I’m told. Gotta figure out how to sell it, lol. A lot of time thinking which isn’t good sometimes. I try to stay busy but occasionally it’s difficult. Have a little battle with depression sometimes. One piece of advice I can give is, if you have major home projects to get done do it now. This will give you time to replace the money. Roof, driveway, new floors, kitchen or bathroom. I wish I had been thinking about that before I retired. Just had the roof and driveway done. $$$. I’ll be painting the inside this winter I think. Took me 3-4 months last time I did the whole house. One guy said the pay sucks but the benefits are great… truer words were never spoken.
