It's time to reinstall my Gardena Smart Irrigation system! It worked so well last year and it made sure we were able to go on a much-needed vacation in the middle of the summer when the greenhouse was frying pretty much everything we put in it.
So as you might have seen in my previous video this drip irrigation system is very much based on a few products from Gardena. First, we have the smart water control unit, then the smart sensor, and lastly, it's a kit for potted plants that I extended with a few more loose parts.
This video is a bit of a mix between my one-year review of using both the watering system and the app it comes with, but also a step-by-step guide in installing this when you're setting up drip irrigation system in raised beds for the second time around.
If you're interested in getting the same micro drip system, check out these links:

How many times did you have to change the batteries?How long do they stay for? Also I guess with the app I will be able to control the watering from any part of the world? Did they included additional information re the amount of litters it uses? When not in greenhouse but outside in different parts of the garden can i use maltiple sensors and how would it work in terms of information when to water the garden? My front part of the garden is very wet whilst the back is very dry, how this smart water system would work with this?

1:37 my #1 pro tip: use a heat gun for a few seconds on the ends of the 13mm hose when installing. It makes installing so much better!

A little tip for you.. If you put the mainline tube into hot water for 3-5 seconds and then this will soften the tube and will make it easier to pug into the connectors. BECAREFUL when using the hot water. Sorry that this tip is so late for you but will hopefully help you going forward.

My pro tip for attaching the pipes: start working out and go to the gym 😅/ anyways I liked the review! I can only give you the advice to buy the 2000l main unit , it may be expensive but it’s worth it! I love this system!

Haha, that's some great advice, haven't been to the gym in a long time! 😅 Thanks for the feedback! I might just need to get the big unit for next year, looks great, didn't even know about it!

Do an update. You’re the only showing this system. I would like to see the sprinklers in action and how much it covers etc

Hei, dersom micro drip systemet blir installert ute, vet du om vi må ta det inn før frosten? Eller er det bare basisenheten som må tas inn? Det stod ikke så mye på manualen utenom basisenheten (den tingen som kobles mot hageslangen). Takk :)
@TryingToBuildStuff
@TryingToBuildStuff Жыл бұрын
Det ska räcka att ta in basisenheten, har själv haft resten ute i minusgrader. Vill ni vara extra säker så försök att blåsa ut slangarna med lite tryckluft eller med munnen, men tror inte det ska behövas :)

Gardena explicitly tells you to take the grey part inside in winter.

At least you did a dry-run before you put all of the plants in. Would be way worse to notice that issue in production.

Do I need a 13mm supply line for my 4mm tubing? Right now I connected 4mm straight to the tap and connected 6 emitters and by the 7th one there is no more water coming. 4mm is too small diameter to supply water for lots of emitters?
@TryingToBuildStuff
@TryingToBuildStuff Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's my understanding at least. The 13mm tube is for providing the water flow needed and the smaller tubes are just for connecting the emitters :) Also, how did you connect just the 4mm tubing? Do you have a pressure reducer taking it down to 1.5 bar (22 psi)? Otherwise I think the pressure in your tap might be a bit too high, risking the emitters to pop off :)
@0Cindrum0
@0Cindrum0 Жыл бұрын
@@TryingToBuildStuff It’s connected directly to the tap with a nut lock connector that converts the 3/4” tap to 4mm tubing with no pressure compensator that would restrict the flow even more wouldn’t it? The emitters work fine at the start but become useless as they go further. I’m gonna order 13mm piping and psi compensators 👍🏽
@TryingToBuildStuff
@TryingToBuildStuff Жыл бұрын
@@0Cindrum0 Sounds like a plan! It would probably restrict the flow, but with the proper pipe it will prevent the emitters from popping off. Had one popping off just a week ago, even with the reducer in place, turns out it was one that I've replaced last year, so the 4mm tubing was a bit worn out I guess. My tomatoes got a bit more water than they needed 😅

If they are a total pain to attach soak the hose in boiling water before attaching as it makes it easier

For hairline cracks like that - self-amalgamating tape is your friend.. not a permanent fix but will get you by a couple of days …

Yes, good advice, I tried that, worked for a couple of days :) Got my hands on a replacement part now so all is good and well!
