One Year with the Acer Swift 3 | What I Love and Hate

The Acer Swift 3 has been my on-the-go productivity creator workhorse. I’m gonna talk about a few things I love and a few I hate. This is my Acer Swift 3 long term review, so I hope it brings you even more value!
Let’s kick things off on a positive note by talking about the things I love, then we can talk about the hates, and then we will look at just a few numbers and benchmarks to tune into the performance elements.
The battery life is one of the top things I love most about this laptop. You can easily get 12+ hours at half brightness. For example I have taken a few road trips over the past year and worked while my wife drove and I was about to get in a full 9 hour day at half brightness with 23% left on the charge. Note bad at all! And what makes this laptop even more on-the-go friendly is with just 30 minutes of charge time you can get the battery up to 4 hours of run time.
This is an all aluminum laptop. In today’s day there are a lot more budget aluminum laptops than there used to be. So what makes this lil guy stand out is the Ryzen 7 8 Core and 8 Thread processor, in all aluminum, and under $700.

It’s easy to open and close, it has a singular hinge for increased reliability and durability, and over the past year it has not received a single dent or scratch on any of the surfaces. It is thin and light at 2.65 Lbs and a thickness of 0.63 inches thick.
The Acer Swift 3 with its full HD screen can reach 253 Nits at full brightness with a Color Gamut Range of 64% sRGB - 47% Adobe RGB - 47% DCI-P3 all at a Delta @ of 3.82.
The next and final two areas of disappointment before moving onto some more positive aspects, because I truly like this laptop a LOT. I just want to give you a super honest transparent review and then let you decide if this laptop is for you or not.
The Keyboard and trackpad are mushy for lack of a better term.
When I slide my finger back and forth over the keycaps on the Swift 3 there is a lot of wobble. So when I hold my finger over the edge of the key I can already begin to feel it depress. So whenever I press the key I get that mushy feeling and does not pop back up with a strong snap. Typing on the Swift 3 is definitely a good experience, but not great.
The trackpad faces a similar issue. The travel distance feels very short on the trackpad click making it a little lackluster while dragging and dropping items during workflow and editing. I would say, as a creator, this is what makes the trackpad the hardest to work with. I found myself having to use two fingers during different trackpad moves in order to get my design, edit or task finished smoothly.

Hey Ben! I really like your Acer swift 3 reviews. You really helps me to convince my parents buy that for school. But I have a problem I don't know which one should I get. In my opinion you should get the amd version because right now amd have better performance than the 11th gen i7, plus for your uses amd provide you with a better integrated gpu than the intel version. Hope this help you

For my experience, I play rust on this regularly, low to medium settings at 720p (hardly noticable on the small screen. The amd 4700u is insane even with only 8 gigs of ram

Hey man, i watched ton of your reviews in the last week, so i made my decision and i bought the hp omen 16 (Intel Core i5-12500H , NVIDIA RTX 3060 6GB, 16 gb ram) . I want it for video editing and some photoshop/LR (i dont play games). However, i am not sure what is the normal case with these laptops (since i never had gaming/performance laptop before) but is it normal to heat up to 90 degrees while exporting, doing other heavy tasks? Also i went for it , not the ultrabooks, because i wanted something more sturdy, but i am wondering. I am looking at the Acer SWIFT 3 (AMD Ryzen 7 5825U, AMD Radeon RX Vega 8, else - the same as hp omen), which is actually 400$ cheaper. So i wonder shall i return the omen and replace it with the acer swift? Would it be better for my needs, would it heat the same, etc, etc, what would you recommend? Thanks!

I bought the i7 version of the Swift 3 but made sure it came with Win 10 instead of Win 11. It's a very fast and light laptop I'm a little disappointed in the screen brightness and not the best sound. It is great to have both lighted keyboard and fingerprint reader these features are a must for me from now on.

Two completely different guys. One has great battery, the other doesn't. One is thin, light and nicely built, the other is 2-3 times heavier and saves money on its external part to save money. One has no RAM upgrade, the other can go up to 20GB (if I'm not mistaken). Honestly, if you don't mind using it while charging, Acer Aspire might've been a better pick because it's customizable etc.

If you game, photo edit, code, ect. get 16 GB RAM with 516 GB SSD. At best you can do well on 8 GB RAM with 256 GB SSD

I use Davinci resolve 17 and I usually lower my res to 720 to make sure my video is edited to my liking, then i change the settings back to 4K and upload due to it being a bit choppy.. but i mean 4K rendering for $650??? Cant beat it. This’ll hold me until i drop $4K on my monster PC. For now its the Series x / Acer Swift 3.

I have the intel i7, 16 RAM, 1TB SDD - and it gets super hot when I use Zoom... I only use Powerpoint, a book interactive software... and it gets up to 97 degrees in more than one core mostly when the charger is plugged in and mainly when using Zoom (according to CPUID HWMonitor). Is it normal?

I reconsidered on buying this laptop due to the connection for the power adaptor, apparently the connection inside the Swift 3 itself is quite flimsy and after a while it doesn't charge correctly anymore until you twist the wire into an exact position.

how long have you been using the Swift 3? I bought mine about a year ago... and my problem is particularly in excel use, it occasionally freezes, and sometime the laptop won't boot normally (should update the bios maybe?). Other than that, it has been fast and efficient.
