On the contrary, as soon as Akimoto hurt him in the 2nd he started to try and cheat his way out of kickboxing with that dirty grab and hit. He just kept on doing it, trying to break the rhythm and sneak strikes in at the same time. Perfect reaction from the ref not tolerating any of it.

When Capitan started clinching, I had a feeling that Akimoto could win this comfortably. He very clearly brought Capitan out of his comfort zone since he started doing Muay Thai-only techs (clinching, dumping) in a kickboxing match. Would love to see a rematch though and see how Capitan would adjust against the kyokushin fighter.

@Jake Collins This is the thing, the Thai fighter's transition to Kickboxing is always good, but when they start to feel the pressure and can't control the distance or out boxing their opponent, they clinch, not necessarily trying to cheat or something, it looks more like an 'instinct to rely on what they are most familiar with' kinda thing.

@Jake Collins second yellow card wasn’t needed imo the first was definitely a foul after being warned but the second was barley a clinch. The point deduction was also kinda sus bc it looked like it was just a frame into a knee to the midsection and not a Muay Thai clinch.
